94 Newmarket Squadron Bonus Program revised as of September 2015

• Please note changes have been made to the program for cadet year 2015-2016 commencing in September of 2015 the bonus points cadets accumulate will no longer be applied to SSC offered activities, but instead the cadets will choose gift cards which are offered via the squadron fundraising campaign, FundScrip, in the amount of the bonus points each cadet accumulates.

• Since the points are no longer being applied towards SSC offered activities, the SSC will set a BASE VLAUE at the start of each cadet year, which will be the same for each cadet. The percentage of bonus points accumulated by individual cadet would be applied to the base value in order to determined the dollar amount each cadet would be awarded. This base value will depend on budgetary constraints and will be made know to cadets at the start of the cadet year along with a value which they could potentially earn if they were to receive maximum points for each category being evaluated. We have decided to make the change to a set BASE VALUE because it would give each cadet the opportunity to accumulate the same amount of points whereas if they were able to choose an activity to apply towards which the dollar amounts would differ, cadets would not have the same opportunity to potentially accumulate the same points. In other words the playing field would be the same for all participants using the BASE VALUE method.

We are hoping that our cadets will take advantage of the new program and use their accumulated points towards the purchase of FundScrip gift cards of their choice. The program is offered to all the cadets at 94 and is based on each individual cadet’s participation in the five categories the SSC has chosen to evaluate.

Description on how each category will be evaluated

Membership• 94 has implemented a membership (assessment) fee to be paid by each cadet upon registration with the

squadron. This fee is imposed to all the squadrons, including 94, by the Air Cadet League for each cadet taking part in the program. In the past the SSC attempted to offset the assessment fee and avoid directing the fee to cadets by asking cadets to sell two lottery books. Unfortunately it is becoming increasingly difficult to cover the rising costs to operate this exceptional program and it is compulsory that every squadron pay this fee to the Air Cadet, hence the implementation of the membership fee. Therefore, we have elected to choose the membership fee as one of the categories for our bonus points program so as to try and help offset some of this fee to our cadets, as the SSC has done in previous years. As shown below payment of membership will gain the cadet 5% towards their bonus points accumulation. If membership is not purchased cadets will still be allowed to participate in the bonus points program, accumulating points by participating in other program categories.

• Note: Cadets who do not participate in the payment of the membership will still be allowed to participate in the bonus program, but will only be allowed 50% of the total points they have earned.

• We have decided this format for the Membership fee so as to make it fair for all the cadets and still allow us to offer the Cadet Program to those who require financial assistance.

• The points earned for this category will be added to points earned in the other categories and the total amount of points earned would be used to determine the final dollar value the cadet has earned toward the purchase of gift cards.

Tagging • Tagging occurs twice a year Fall and Spring and is our major means of fundraising at 94. They key to tagging is

full participation. The more cadets we have participating the more money we can potentially raise. It is considered a TEAM event which when all the team players come out to play it is a sure win for 94. But with the bonus program we are allowing each cadet to come out as a winner also, remember participation is the key. The chart below shows how each cadet can become a winner, as long as they are willing to participate. As can be seen in the chart if the cadet attends 5 shifts in the fall tagging session and 5 shifts in the spring tagging session, he/she will have earned 12% worth of points, the maximum for this category.

• Note: This is not a accumulating value, 6% for 5 shifts,4 % for 4 shifts,2% for 3 shifts. • The points earned for this category will be added to points earned in the other categories and the total amount of

points earned would be used to determine the final dollar value the cadet has earned toward the purchase of gift cards.

Air Cadet League of Canada (OPC) Lottery

The sale of lottery tickets is regulated by the Air Cadet League (ACL). Every year the league assigns a mandatory number of lottery books each squadron must purchase based on the number of cadets in the squadron. The ACL awards the squadron a certain percentage of the amount of tickets purchased and sold. A certain percentage is awarded for the mandatory books and a higher percentage is awarded for any books sold above the mandatory books quota. The funds raised from the sale of lottery tickets provides funds to both the ACL and the squadron. Once again full participation by all the team members, in this case Cadets right across Canada, makes it a win, win situation for both the ACL and 94. In this case 94 can come out more of a winner along with the cadet taking part in the bonus program. They key is in the amount of lottery books sold over the mandatory books quota assigned to the squadron, the more books sold the more money 94 will receive and in turn the more bonus points the cadet will receive. As can be seen by the chart below the cadet has a potential of obtaining a maximum of 7% for this category ,ambition, participation and punctuality can make you a winner.

Parade Attendance• Taking part in parades is a means of showing our community who we are and what we are all about. 94 is given

the opportunity to attend the Newmarket, Bradford, and East Gwillimbury Santa Claus parades. We also take part in the Newmarket Remembrance Day Ceremonies, the overnight vigil and the Remembrance Day parade. 94 has continuously supported the Newmarket and Bradford Legions in Poppy sales , Legion dinners and in return the Legions have supported us both financially and with the use of their facilities for our tagging days and other events. The relationship we have built with our communities and community members, such as the Newmarket Optimist Club and the North Newmarket Lions Club, has allowed 94 to operate out of Newmarket for over 50 years. It is very important that cadets participate in these parades so that this relationship can go on for another 50 years.


• Note: Because of time constraints with the training year schedule, the number of parades the squadron takes part in might vary from year to year. The SSC will make adjustments accordingly as to how many and how much points will be awarded. But cadets should remember that participation in what ever the number of parades the squadron will be entering is the key to maximizing both bonus points and community awareness for our squadron.

Program Disclosures:• The Bonus Points Program is made available for all cadets at 94 and structured to the best of the SSC ability to

make it fair and equal for all our cadets at 94.• The points accumulated have no cash value can only be used towards purchase of gift cards from FundScrip the

squadron fundraiser campaign site and are not allowed to be carried over to the next year. • Bonus Points accumulated by each cadet would be used to determine the final dollar value the cadet has earned

toward the purchase of gift cards, only if membership fee participation points have been awarded. Otherwise 50% of accumulated points will be used to determine the final dollar value the cadet has earned toward the purchase of gift cards.

• Percentages allotted towards categories will vary from year to year dependent on SSC overall budget.• Categories chosen for the points system may also change from year to year.• Number of parades may vary dependent on the training schedule for the year, as such this category will be

subject to change and points adjust accordingly• Cadets must fulfill requirements of each category in order to receive bonus points for that category. No

substituted activity will be allowed. Every effort possible must be made by cadet to fulfill requirements for each category, if alterations are allowed to be made for individuals, the program no longer is fair and equal for the rest of the cadets involved.

• Evaluation of categories will me made up to and including the second last CO parade, beginning of May. This will give ample time for SSC to calculate points and place May group order for selected cards by cadets so that cards will be available for pickup for first Wednesday of June.
