We are delighted to be taking our Salon Exhibition to Aberdeen as well as East Kilbride this year. The Scottish Salon has a long history with Aberdeen, and with Bon Accord Camera Club. This will be the tenth Scottish

Salon Exhibition to have been shown in Aberdeen since the Salon began in 1904.

The fi rst Scottish Salon exhibition to be held in Aberdeen was the 5th

Scottish Salon, in 1908 and. At that time it was a National Exhibition, and Bon Accord CC wasn’t yet in existence. Aberdeen Photographic Association were the hosts both then and in 1914, 1926 & 1933 when the Salon was to return.Bon Accord were formed in 1939, and they were to catch the Salon Exhibition ‘bug’ big-time running the Scottish Salon on several occasions over the years, most recently in 1991. By that time it was ‘International’ with FIAP & PSA patronage. This experience in running an ‘International’ resulted in them running their own International for a number of years known as the ‘Bon-A- Slide’ under the Chairmanship of Charlie Lawson.

The Scottish Photographic Federation are delighted to bring you the 92nd Scottish International Salon of Photography. Our hope was to introduce Projected Digital sections for 2015, and with the help of Rachel Findlay, our Website Designer, we introduced 3 PDI sections to our existing 3 print sections. Our newly designed website was up and running a little later than anticipated but the wait was worthwhile as all but one entrant managed to complete their entries with only a few minor problems. After running last year with only FIAP patronage, 2015 sees us with both FIAP and PSA patronage again. We have also added Royal Photographic Society (RPS) and the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) patronage giving us more medals and awards to presented.

Not being sure of the size of entry we would receive, we booked nine Judges for our six new sections. This included a panel of three Nature specialist Judges who Judged the Nature Print and PDI sections.

We were to see a record entry submitted this year. We ran Projected Sections in the early days of Digital and later days of Slides but this year’s entry of 9,138 topped all of those. We received a total of 6,263 Projected Images, but were very pleased to receive a good entry of 2,875 prints. However, proportionately more prints were received from the UK than elsewhere.

This year also saw a rise in the number of countries, with 56 Countries entering, and after the Judging I’m very pleased to say that 53 of these countries are represented in this year’s Acceptances.

Congratulations to all of the authors that have been successful this year, and also to the winners of the Best Club Awards, particularly to Shangtuf Image and Art Club who have won for the third year running.Please come along to our Exhibtions if you can to see all of the award winning Prints and PDIs and a large selection of this year’s Acceptances. If you can’t manage along please visit our NEW gallery area on our Salon website where you will fi nd all of this year’s Salon award winning photographs displayed in six galleries.The Scottish Salon now also has a facebook site which proved useful to entrants and the Salon alike. SANDY CLELAND FRPS AFIAP from Penicuik, has been a member of Edinburgh Photographic Society for over 40 years. Natural history has always been and still is Sandy’s main interest but he enjoys all types of photography. He has also been heavily involved with the RPS over the years having served as panel member and Chairman on their prestigious ARPS & FRPS panels for Nature.

BARRY MEAD FRPS EFIAP/p MPAGB from Bristol has selected for many international salons, with his involvement with photography having been extensive since the mid-1970s. Barry’s work ranges from wildlife, landscape to very creative computer constructed images. He has gained numerous Awards for both his Wildlife and Creative work. On this occasion he is one of our Nature Judges

EDMUND FELLOWES FRPS MPAGB from Dumfries is one of this year’s Nature judges. He is a lifelong bird watcher and naturalist, having put up his fi rst bird photography hide when still a schoolboy. He has been a member of Dumfries Camera Club for over 40 years. He enjoys the preparatory fi eldwork involved in bird photography, as much as the photographic element.

THE NATURE JUDGES...

HUNTER KENNEDY ARPS EFIAP MPAGB from Carluke, although best known for his landscape photography, he is also a keen observer of people and gets great pleasure in candid photography. Hunter’s interest in photography spans nearly 40 years, his primary interest over that time has been in printing. Currently the SPF Snr Vice President “This has been a busy year for me photographically, but the best part was being invited to judge at my home international salon” said Hunter.

JUDITH PARRY DPAGB AFIAP HonPAGB is from Birmingham. She has been a member of Smethwick Photographic Society for 50 years during which time she has been President twice and has served for 40 years on the Smethwick International Exhibition Committee.

She is currently Chairman of the Midland Salon of International Photography. Judith is a keen exhibitor both in the UK and abroad where she has been successful, gaining many awards.

THE OPEN JUDGES... Mono PDI and Colour Prints

STEVE SMITH FRPS MFIAP MPAGB is from High Wycombe. His passion for photography started back in the late 1970’s specializing in reportage and social documentary. He holds two Fellowships of the Royal Photographic Society the fi rst was in Visual Arts the second in Travel. His latest project “Beneath the Games Umbrella” was shot entirely on fi lm. He uses various methods to produce his fi nished prints from the darkroom to scanned images. Solo exhibitions of Steve’s work have been held in Cuba, London, Scotland and Bath.

JOHN HOOTON FRPS MFIAP FIPF from Mallow, is an Irish landscape photographer. John has been photographing the landscape for the past 30 years. He is captivated by the varying light and mood of Ireland’s Atlantic coastline. John’s images refl ect the changing light, and his use of a wide-angle lens lends to it a better sense of place and location. He does not depend totally on photoshop and endeavours to do most of his work ‘on site’. John’s work has appeared extensively in salons throughout the world having gained numerous acceptances and awards.

ROGER PARRY ARPS EFIAP DPAGB from Birmingham, became involved in photography while still at school in 1958 when he was introduced to Smethwick Photographic Society He has been a member ever since, and has been their Secretary for over 50 years. He is Chairman of the Smethwick International Exhibition and is a very keen exhibitor, both in National and International Exhibitions, gaining many awards.

DENIS WHELEHAN AIPF APSA EFIAP is from Dundalk in Ireland. He joined the Dundalk Photographic Society in 1987. Having achieved success at national level, Denis started entering international salons in 1992, and has received numerous awards and medals in national and international exhibitions, At national level, he serves on the Irish Photographic Federation. Denis is also the PSA International Representative and Regional Director for Ireland.

The Scottish Salon runs a competition for clubs or photographic groups in conjunction with the Salon’s main individual competition and Exhibition.

Clubs, or groups, organising and submitting their author’s entries together are eligible for the Best Club Awards. The club with the highest points total from outwith the UK, and within the UK outwith Scotland are both awarded an SPF Gold Medal, and the ‘Octocentenary Trophy’ will be presented to the Best Scottish Club entry with the highest points total.Points are awarded as follows: 1 point for each print entered; 10 points for each print acceptance, and a further 2 points for an Individual Award.

Our congratulations to ‘Shangtuf Image and Art Club’ from China for again gaining the ‘SPF Gold Medal’ for the Best Club from outwith UK. They entered a total of 299 photographs, gaining 73 Acceptances and 4 Awards, a great achievement!

Congratulations also go to Dumfries Camera Club for winning the Best Scottish Club for which they are presented with the Octocentenary Trophy. They entered a total of 130 photos, gaining 65 Acceptances and 6 Awards.

The newly introduced Best UK Club (Outwith Scotland) went to Smethwick Photographic Society. They entered 111 photos, gaining 53 Acceptances and 4 Awards.

Our thanks must fi rstly go to this year’s Judges who had the task, over three days, to select our exhibition from the mountain of prints, but did so with enthusiasm and good humour. This Exhibition is the culmination of all that hard work!
