Attention 8th Grade parents-The Washington D.C. trip registration of $150.00 is due by Friday, October 9th. The link to sign up is https://www.globaltravelalliance.com/portal/. The trip leader is Simms and our trip ID number is 5548. Please email Mrs. Simms for any questions— [email protected].
School Closures—The most common reason for school closures is
blowing snow and severe weather. When forecasts are definitive,
the district will close or delay school with as much advance
notice as possible. When forecasts are less definitive, we will
monitor conditions closely and consult with county and state
officials prior to making a decision to close or delay schools.
In these instances, we will make every effort to communicate
with you no later than 5:30 am on the school day in question. In
the event of a delayed start due to inclement weather, we will
start school 2.5 hours later than regularly scheduled start
times. Bus schedules will also start 2.5 hours later. Our
closures are posted on the following stations:
KWGN—2 KCNC—4 KMGH—7 KUSA—9 KDVR—31
If your student has lost his/her bus pass, you can call the
Transportation Department at 303-702-7530 to request a new one.
Transportation will send the bus pass to EMS to be distributed.
Try outs for 5th-8th Grade boys interested in playing on a
competitive Erie basketball team will be held on Sunday,
September 27th from 1-3pm at Erie High School. Teams will be
playing in either a Gold Crown League or Power to Play league.
Please contact Scott Melin at [email protected] for more
information.

Dear Parents and Guardians:
As you know, the Community of Erie and its schools have experienced a tremendous amount
of growth. With this growth comes the need to expand our school's resources and faculty.
This includes administrative staff.
After an extensive search, I am pleased to inform you that Erin Brueggeman of Erie High
School will be hired as the Dean of Students at Erie Middle School.
Ms. Brueggeman has worked in St. Vrain Valley Schools for 14 years and currently teaches
Family and Consumer Studies and Student Government at Erie High School where she also
serves as the cheerleading coach.
Over the next few weeks, Ms. Brueggeman will begin transitioning into her new role at Erie
Middle School. She will finish the school year as Erie High School's cheer coach.
We're extremely excited to welcome Ms. Brueggeman to Erie Middle School!
If you have any questions or would like to know more about the hiring process, please feel
free to contact me directly.
Sincerely,
Todd Bissell, Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Each year schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students in
grades K-12 who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic
areas and may therefore qualify for Gifted/Talented educational . These students perform at
least two years above grade level in their strength area(s) and require additional academic
challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress. In addition,
they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their
strength areas.
The search for gifted/talented students begins with an opportunity for parents and/or teachers to
refer students for review. Once referrals are received, a team of educators review student state
testing data, standardized test scores, rating scales and other school data to determine student
eligibility.
If you believe that your child qualifies and would benefit from district Gifted/Talented
services, please pick up a nomination form from the EMS school office, or contact one of
your school’s Gifted/Talented Building Leaders (Jennifer Saless or Bonnie Palmer).
The nomination form and survey must be completed and turned in by September 31,
2015 for consideration this year.
Thank you,
Jennifer Saless
Bonnie Palmer

6th Grade
Kaden Sisk has a strong work ethic that is reflected in the quality of all his assignments. He is
always willing to participate and help out as needed. He sets a high standard for himself, not only in his
work assignments but also in his behavior and decorum. Keep up the excellent work, Kaden!
Haley Dowe comes in everyday with a smile and a positive attitude. Her willingness to help others
made her an easy choice for student of the month! Not only is she more than happy to help her class-
mates, she offers assistance in anyway possible to the teacher. Furthermore, she asks questions and
does her best on all her work. Haley is not afraid to go above and beyond and truly shows a passion for
learning. Way to ROAR, Haley!
7th Grade
Grace Wagner is the 7th grade student of the month recipient for September. Grace is an awesome
student that exemplifies the R.O.A.R expectations here at Erie Middle School. Grace can be found
helping her fellow classmates on tasks inside and outside of class. She is always giving her best effort
in all that she does. She consistently demonstrates higher-level thinking and understanding to achieve
her goals. The 7th grade team is excited to honor Grace as the September student of the month.
Blake Nemeth is our 7th grade boy student of the month. Blake can always be seen with a huge
smile on his face, and is always polite and kind to peers and teachers. He volunteers, is always present
in discussions, and excels in all of his classes. He is well rounded, in and out of school, and a friend to
all. We are very proud of Blake and all of his hard work at EMS.
8th Grade
Jesse Amend has consistently demonstrated excellence in and out of the classroom. Her diligence,
attention to detail, and strong work ethic are recognized by her classmates, and appreciated by her
teachers. Jesse is polite, attentive, and always ready to lend a hand to others. We thoroughly enjoy
having Jesse as a student here at Erie Middle; great job, Jesse!
Myles Meskers has star ted this year off with a mature attitude, easily carrying the respect of his
teachers and peers. His presence in class has helped elevate deep discussion and model leadership for
his peers. We look forward to him having a successful 8th grade year.

Elective Team Solo Students of the Month
The 6th grade Elective Team Solo Award goes to Dylan Burnell. Mrs. Sargent would like to rec-
ognize Dylan as an outstanding 6th grade Spanish Student. Dylan Demonstrates all of the great
qualities of a tiger who ROARS. He is super organized, a great listener and is always giving his
BEST effort. Though we have only been back to school for a short period of time it is clear that
Dylan will experience a great deal of success at Erie Middle School. Congratulations Dylan!
The 7th grade Elective Team Solo Award goes to Andrew Rende. Andrew loves art and his
work shows it. Andrew is a kind person whose personality can make your day. Mr. Townsend is
inspired by Andrew’s efforts in class each day.
The 8th grade Elective Team Solo Award goes to Oliver Zak. Oliver “Blue” Zak has grown leaps
and bounds this year. He is already advocating for himself and taking the initiative to stay on top
of his assignments and upcoming tests in choir and Media Tech. He is respectful to his
classmates and brings a great humor to his classes. We can't wait to see what Oliver does in 8th
grade this year!
All Students of The Month will have their pictures displayed in the Main
Office. Each of you will receive a large one topping pizza for lunch on
Friday, September 25th. Please make sure you stop by the office to put
your order in!
