Research Retreat

AsAs an environment for artists and writers to escape the daily grind, I felt it important that this building should celebrate its environment and spectacular natural sur-roundings in the Perthshire countryside. A communal area encompassing kitchen, dining and social areas was located on the top of the site, Dunsinane Hill. Private accomodation with bedrooms and study spaces were set into the hill in various south-facing locations. The main focus of the project was on materialty; aiming to remind the inhabitants of the nature surrounding them by bringing natural materi-als such as rough timber and slate into the internal areas such as the bedrooms.
