*****The 8th Academic Council of Anna University met on 18-03-2006 made

certain important changes in the existing Curriculum and Regulations in respect

of various B.E. / B.Tech. programmes including the introduction of new Curricula

and Syllabi under the Annual Pattern for the first year B.E. / B.Tech.

programmes to be admitted from the academic year 2006-07 with minor

modifications in Regulations 2004 to be applicable to the students admitted

under Annual Pattern.

The M.B.A Curricula have also been modified and approved. Regulations

concerning B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes have also been modified to facilitate

the students to move to the higher semesters.

The Council has approved the proposal to upgrade B.Sc. programmes

in to five year M.Sc. programmes.

The modifications, amendments, pertaining to the Under Graduate and

Post Graduate programmes facultywise are given in the appropriate places in

bold letters. Some of the items need your immediate attention as they are related

to the current semesters of study July-November, 2006.

1. The Academic Council has ratified the amendment to clause 2.3 and

12 of Regulations 2003 for B.Sc. Degree programmes regarding the

deletion of restriction to move to the V Semester as presented at the

meeting.

**5. The Academic Council has ratified the minor changes in the syllabus

of the course “BFT242 Garment Construction” of B.Sc Apparel and

Fashion Technology of Regulation 2003.

6. The Academic Council has approved to rationalize the offer of B.Sc /

M.Sc degree programmes as follows:

1. to withdraw all B.Sc. programmes presently offered by

Engineering Colleges affiliated to Anna University

2. to offer either M.Sc (2 year) programme or M.Sc (5-year)

programme, but not both in same discipline.

Resolved to offer the following M.Sc. programmes from the

academic year 2006 onwards:

Further the Council ratified that the Curriculum & Syllabi of the existing

first two year B.Sc. degree programmes may be adopted for first two years

of M.Sc. 5-year programmes and the Curriculum and Syllabi for the

remaining three years may be prepared and placed in the next meeting of

the Board of Studies.

7. The Academic Council has approved the introduction of Annual pattern

(for first year only) for the B.E / B.Tech programmes of Anna University, to

be followed by affiliated colleges from the Academic year 2006-2007

onwards.

8. The Academic Council has approved the modification of Clause 11.2. of

Regulations 2005 for P.G. programmes including the supervisor as one of

the internal examiners as presented at the meeting.

9. The Academic Council has approved the Annual pattern curriculum

for the first year B.E. Civil Engineering degree programme offered under

Faculty of Civil Engineering to be followed by the affiliated Colleges from

the academic year 2006 – 2007 onwards (under Regulations 2004) with

the following two branch wise courses to be followed from the academic

year 2006-2007 onwards as presented at the meeting.

10. The Academic Council has approved the Curriculum (including the

grouping of electives) for the III to VIII semesters of the B.E. Degree

programmes offered under Faculty of Civil Engineering to be followed from

the academic year 2007 – 2008 onwards by the candidates admitted to

the first semester under annual pattern in the academic year 2006-2007 or

later.

13. The Academic Council has approved the modification of Unit V of the

course “CE1252 Strength of Materials” and rearranging the units of

from the academic year 2006-2007 onwards.

14. The Academic Council has approved the inclusion of the following

year 2006 – 2007 onwards as presented at the meeting.

16. The Academic council has approved the Curriculum (including the

content for “MG1402 Process Economics and Industrial Management”

** 44. The Academic Council has approved the minor modification in the list

of experiments to be offered in certain laboratory courses of B.Tech.

45. The Academic Council has approved the amendment to clause 2.1. of

Regulations 2004 for B.Arch. degree programme with the following minor

changes to include diploma (10+3) as an entry qualification for admission

to I Semester B.Arch. degree programme.

Candidates for admission to the first semester of ten semester B.Arch. Degree Programme shall be required to have passed the Higher Secondary Examination of (10+2) curriculum with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as subjects with an over-all aggregate of not less than 50% or any other examination of any University or Authority accepted by the Syndicate of this university as equivalent thereto.

Candidates for admission to the first semester of ten semester B.Arch. Degree Programme shall be required to have passed the Higher Secondary Examination of (10+2) curriculum or 3 year diploma (10+3) recognized by the Central / State Government with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as subjects of study provided the candidate passed the examination with an overall aggregate of not less than 50% or any other examination of any University or Authority accepted by the Syndicate of this university as equivalent thereto.

46. The Academic Council has approved the amendments related to the

introduction of X semester B.Arch. (Interior Design) to various clauses of

the Regulations 2004 for B.Arch. to be followed by affiliated colleges as

presented in the meeting.

47. The Academic Council has approved the shifting of practical training of

VIII semester to VII semester and all the courses of VII semester to the

VIII semester of B.Arch. degree programme under Regulations 2004.

48. The Academic Council has approved the minor change in Clause 8.1.1.

of Regulations 2004 for B.Arch. degree programme as “between 65%

and less than 75%” in place of ‘65% and 74%’ regarding the attendance

requirement.

FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES

49. The Academic Council has ratified the inclusion of an elective course

“BA070 Retail Management” of MBA degree programmme under

Regulations 2002 and to approve its detailed syllabus as presented at the

meeting.

50. The Academic Council has revised the overall Curriculum (I to IV

Semester) & Syllabi should be made applicable to the MBA students to be

admitted from the academic year 2006-2007 onwards and the III and IV

Semester Curriculum shall be made applicable to the students admitted in

the year 2005-2006 also.

Change in Regulations :

The duration of summer project for MBA programme is

reduced from 8 weeks to 6 weeks.

The marks for project work of MBA programme is to be

revised as 400 marks instead of 200 marks and the

internal assessment marks is to be revised as 80

marks instead of 40 marks.

51. The Academic Council has ratified the list of equipment for the

laboratory course “BA1658 Business Application Software” of MBA degree

programmes under Regulations 2005.

52. The Academic Council has approved the change in the duration of the

summer project to six weeks from eight weeks, which is to be done in the

summer after the second semester University Examinations.

RESEARCH BOARD

53. The Academic Council has ratified the amendment to Clause 3.2.1. of Ph.D.

regulations of Anna University regarding the permission granted to the teachers of

Government / Government Aided Polytechnic colleges to register for Ph.D.

programme on part-time basis in Anna University as presented at the meeting.

54. The Academic Council has ratified the amendment to Clause 7.3. of

Ph.D. Regulations of Anna University related to the supervisor

recognition as presented at the meeting.

55. The Academic Council has ratified the amendment to Clause 10.2. of

Ph.D. Regulations of Anna University regarding the duration of

programmes as presented at the meeting.

56. The Academic Council has ratified to adopt the first year curriculum

and syllabi prescribed for B.Tech. (Chemical Engineering) and B.Tech.

(Polymer Technology) under Annual Pattern for the new courses B.Tech.

57. The Academic Council has approved the changes of question paper

pattern, revaluation and supply of Xerox copies of answer sheets of U.G.

programmes as follows:

1. In Part B all question (Q.No.11 to 15) must be ‘either or’ type

and compulsory question may be dispensed with.

2. Further, the council has decided to follow the revised

question paper pattern from the University Semester

**58. The Academic Council has approved the introduction of a new

laboratory course “Communication Skills Laboratory” in place of

“Communication Skills and Seminar” and “Professional / Presentation

Skills and Seminar / Technical Seminar” of V and VI semesters of B.E. /

B.Tech programmes under Regulations 2004.

Students of earlier Regulations after break of study rejoining under new

Regulations

59. The Academic Council has approved the proposal of directing the

students studying in affiliated colleges of Anna University who after break

of study rejoin when new Regulations are in force to undergo the

remaining semesters as per the Curricula & Syllabi in force under the new

Regulations.

60. The Academic Council has ratified the permission granted to implement

the following changes in the Curricula & Syllabi of various UG & PG

programmes with effect from the session June 2005 to December 2005 of

the Academic year 2005-2006 as recommended by the Boards of Studies

as presented at the meeting.

1. Curriculum 2005 for M.E. (Part time) programmes

2. Minor changes in the Curriculum of M.E. CAD / CAM of

Regulations 2005.

“ED1627 Industrial Robotics and Expert Systems” is introduced in place of “CC1602 Robotics and Sensors”.
