III. LEVEL OF DISASTER PREPARDNESS

Table 5 presents the respondents responses towards the positively stated statements regarding their level of disaster preparedness.A. TyphoonListen to television and radio reports (Statement 1). Table 5 showed that respondents are much prepared with listening to updates via television and radio. This implies that this will probably tell that the respondents become more aware when listening to television and radio reports during typhoon in order for them to know what to do with it. This is supported by information in the previous tables which made the respondents much prepared of the impending disaster.Prepare disaster supply kit (Statement 2). Table 5 showed that respondents are prepared with their disaster supply kit. This implies that some of the respondents are prepared in terms of having disaster supply kit such as alcohol, betadine, band aid, plaster, etc. because they knew that this would be very helpful in every individual when typhoon exist. The level of preparedness is low maybe because the necessities in the kit include money. They might not have enough to procure this.Stay in house and keep calm (Statement 3). Table 5 showed that the respondents are much prepared. They stay in their home and keep calm. This implies that the respondents have enough knowledge that instead of being anxious, they only stay in their house and keep calm so that they can think appropriately of what they are going to do in dealing with the situation. Maslows hierarchy of needs is very relevant in this statement because it teaches that importance of maintaining safety and security is a need which should be answered in our everyday life.Know where to find the evacuation area (Statement 4). Table 5 showed that the respondents are much prepared with where to evacuate. This implies that the respondents know where to find the evacuation area; this reminds the respondents to look first where the evacuation areas are located before typhoons occur so that it would not be very hard for them to find it when disasters happen. This is an indication of the respondents awareness and preparedness levels.

Keep appliances valuables, garbage, and chemicals beyond the reach of floodwaters (Statement 5). Table 5 showed that the respondents are prepared with keeping their appliances, valuables, chemicals, and others when disaster occurs. This implies that the respondents are highly aware in keeping appliances, valuables, garbage and chemicals beyond the reach of floodwater so that the appliances will not be destroyed and chemicals would be avoided that may affect the lives of people. Maslows hierarchy of needs is one of the theories that will definitely support this statement- this is self-preservation.B. EarthquakePrepare plan ahead with the family in case of an earthquake (Statement 1). Table 5 showed that the respondents are much prepared in planning ahead when there is an impending disaster. This implies that the respondents plan ahead with their family when there is warning for an impending disaster.Participate in regular earthquake drills (Statement 2). Table 5 showed that the respondents are prepared when it comes to participation in the drill. This implies that the respondents have enough knowledge of what to do in handling this kind of situation through participating in regular earthquake drills. Safety and security under Maslows hierarchy of needs is one of that supports this statement. This too, is self-preservation.C. TsunamiEvacuate to higher grounds whenever tsunami alert is raised (Statement 3). Table 5 showed that the respondents are much prepared whenever there is a need to evacuate. This implies that the respondents have the knowledge or the initiative that whenever tsunami alerts are raised they must evacuate to higher grounds in order to survive and save their lives from danger. The theory which will support this statement would be again the safety and security of Maslows hierarchy of needs.Stay alert to PAG-ASA and PDRRMC updates (Statement 4). Table 5 shows that in this statement we can infer that the respondents are moderately prepared for a tsunami. This implies that the respondents are aware of the importance of listening to news or reports or forecasts which help them prepare for tsunamis. This is supported by Prochaska and DiClementes Change Theory where it states that an individual series of stages when change occurs-the second stage or the contemplation which exists when an individual becomes conscious of news or reports about tsunami it will lead to the second stage which is preparation.D. LandslideKnow the different kinds of land which are prone to landslide (Statement 1). Table 5 showed that in this statement the respondents are moderately prepared for landslides. This implies that most of the respondents are assessing the land around them to ensure their safety from landslide. This is supported by Abraham Maslows Hierarchy of Needs where he stated that safety and security are important for an individual.Secure a list of emergency hotline numbers prior to disaster (Statement 2). Table 5 showed that the respondents are prepared for a landslide. Most of the respondents have communication plans. This is an evidence of awareness and preparedness levels of the respondents.Prepare a disaster supply kit (Statement 3). Table 5 showed that the respondents are moderately prepared with their kit. This implies that the respondents are aware of the importance of preparing a disaster supply kit during emergency situations when family member be hurt. Other family members can administer simple first aid. This can be supported by the Stimulus-Response Theory where an individual or family tend to do practices and preparations such as disaster supply kit preparation which helps them avoid or lessen the damages during occurrence of natural disasters.E. FloodKnow the flood warning system of the community (Statement 1). Table 5 showed that the respondents are moderately prepared for floods. This implies that the respondents are aware whether they are at risk with floods and therefore they can be prepared on with what actions to take when it occurs. Know the evacuation plan in the community (Statement 2). Table 5 showed that the respondents are prepared for floods. This implies the respondents are aware of the evacuation plan of the community and that they would be prepared if there is a risk of flooding.Informed of the daily weather condition and forecast from PAG-ASA, PDRRMC and local media communications (Statement 3). Table 5 showed that the respondents are moderately prepared for floods. They will be updated whenever there is a heavy rain or typhoon and/or flood warnings and they will be able to prepare for evacuation.Keep battery operated radio flashlight, cellphones, emergency cooking equipment, candle, matches, and first aid kit and handy in case of emergency (Statement 4). Table 5 showed that the respondents are moderately prepared for floods. It implies that the respondents are aware of the importance of these things and gadgets or these are their ways of communication.
