Welcome to Week 5 of Term Four.
Congratulaons
Well done to Louise Robinson who has recently finished her studies and has achieved her Bachelor of Teaching. This is a fantas c
accomplishment as Louise con nued to maintain her vital role as one of our school teacher aides while comple ng her full
me studies.
Proposed Cohort Entry
Our school is proposing that beginning in Term 2 next year we accept cohort entry to school. This means that children will be
able to start school at the beginning of the term closest to their birthday, or beginning of a later term. Therefore some children,
depending on their birthday, will be able to start school up to two months before they turn five, while others will have to wait
un l the new term starts before they can start school. The cut-off date is a predetermined date set by the Ministry and is in the
middle of the term. The reason for this proposed change is that there is significant evidence that star ng school alongside other
children helps children build rela onships and supports a smoother entry to school life. The Board of Trustees welcomes your
discussion and perspec ve on this ma)er before we make a decision. Please email any
of the BoT members or myself with your response before the 13th
of December.
Colgate Beer World Recycling Project
Thank you to those that have supported this compe on this year. We have once
again won a main prize for the second year in a row. This means that we get a cheque
for $1000 as well as a park bench made from the recycled products. Though the
compe on has finished we will s ll collect products to recycle.
Tahuna School App
At Tahuna School we are always looking for ways to adapt what we do and improve.
This has seen us introduce our school app called ‘SchoolStream’. While it is s ll a work in progress this app will be used to com-
municate permission slips, feedback forms, emergency informa on etc. It will also be a quick way to
pay for trips, BBQ, fees etc. When downloaded, you will receive push no fica ons on your phone
about a trip or sports event, sign your consent on the screen, and then push the pay now bu)on to
pay the required amount from your credit card. This will make the process very easy for all involved.
If you do not own a smartphone or have limited access to the internet we will ensure that your child
will not miss out on these opportuni es. The app also translates all no ces and permission slips into
a language of your choice.
I encourage as many people as possible to download the app from Itunes or Google Play as it will be
fully opera onal in the next few weeks.
Athlecs Events
Our School Athle cs Day will take place on Thursday the 23rd
of November. It will begin at 9.45am
with students compe ng in their field events (High Jump, Long Jump etc.) Students will grab a bite to eat during their events so
no morning tea is metabled. Lunch is scheduled for 12.00. Sprints and relays will be held at the
Tahuna domain at 1pm. All students will be involved.
Following this, a select group of students who have excelled will be selected to a)end the regional interschool event in
Morrinsville on Tuesday 28th
of November.
Screenagers – Growing up in the Digital Age
We have been invited to Tatuanui School on the 20th
November at 6pm to watch a
screening of a documentary about ‘the biggest paren ng issue of our me.’ Entry is by
Koha and Year 5/6 children and above are also welcome. The movie explores ‘how tech
me impacts kids’ development and also offers solu ons on how adults can empower
their kids to best navigate the digit world to find balance.’

Carpark Speed
Please ensure that cars travel at 5km/h when driving through the carpark. Though the
reasons for this are obvious we s ll have some drivers that are in too much of a rush
and put the lives of our tamariki in danger.
