    UPCOMING GAMES AND PITCHING PROBABLES

CURVE/BAYSOX SERIES: Despite being in the same division as one another, this is just the second seriesthe two teams will play against each other this season (and the only one at Prince Georges Stadium). When Bowie came to Altoona in late June, Altoona had just swept Portland and Richmond and was on asix-game winning streak. Bowie took the rst two games o the series, 5-1 and 5-3, respectively beore theCurve won the nale, 12-3. In the limited action against the Baysox this season, Altoona has a .292 teambatting average withJosh Harrison (.462, 6x13, 4 2B),Jordy Mercer (.417, 5x12, 2 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI) and

Anthony Norman (.417, 5x12, 2B) having the most success against Baysox pitching.

YESTERDAY: Altoona ailed to clinch a playo spot on Sunday as they lost late to the Richmond FlyingSquirrels, 5-4, at Blair County Ballpark. Brock Bond hit a slow rolling ineld single to score Tyler La Torrerom third in the top o the ninth inning to give Richmond the lead at, 5-4. Altoona had tied the game atour in the th inning when Chase dArnaud andJosh Harrison hit back-to-back home runs to tie it. FordArnaud, it was his th home run o the year while it was the ourth o the season or Harrison. StarterJared Hughes suered a no decision, giving up our runs (three earned) in six innings while Bryan Morrispitched two scoreless rames in his second relie outing. Ramon Aguero (2-5) was hit with the loss as hepermitted the run in the top o the ninth inning. Altoona rallied in the ninth, getting the leado man on inJim Negrych but they ailed to get him in.

FOR ALTOONA: SouthpawJustin Wilson returns to the mound or Altoona ater suering his rst losssince July 23 in his last outing against the Erie SeaWolves at BCB on August 25. Wilson lasted our inningsand gave up three runs (two earned) but he walked three while permitting six hits in the loss. Despitethe loss, Wilson still ranks among the league leaders in ERA (ourth), strikeouts (third) and batting average

against (third). In his one start against the Baysox this season, Wilson pitched well but earned a no deci-sion. He allowed one run over six innings on just three hits with six strikeouts at BCB on June 25. He letwith the game tied at one beore Bowie scored our in the ninth. For more on Wilson, see page two.

FOR BOWIE:The Curve will get its rst glimpse o RHP Eddie Gamboa tonight at Prince Georges Stadiumin Bowie, Md. Gamboa, who was used as a reliever until just ater the All-Star break, did not pitch in the se-ries when Bowie came to Blair County Ballpark in late June. In his nine starts this season, Gamboa is 3-1 buthis ERA is a ull run higher (4.54) than it was when he is used as a reliever (3.50). Hes yet to go longer thansix innings (only gone six once) in any o his starts this year and he is coming o o his only loss as a starterhis last time out. He surrendered six runs (ve earned) on nine hits in ve innings at home against Akronon August 25. The nine hits and six runs are both season worsts or the Golden State native.

BREAK IT DOWN: Altoona can clinch the E.L. Western Division title tonight with a win and a HarrisburgSenators loss. Even though the magic number is three to win the division outright, Altoona owns thetiebreaker over Harrisburg i the two teams were to nish with identical records at the end o the year soby deault Altoona would win anyway. The rst tiebreaker is the head-to-head series, which Altoona won12-8. It would be the second division crown in team history, with the only other one coming in 2004. I

Harrisburg deeats New Hampshire and Altoona deeats Bowie, the Curve would still secure its rst playoappearance since 2006.

FOUR SCORE AND NEARLY A MONTH AGO:The our runs permitted by starterJared Hughes on Sundaynight was the most runs that an Altoona Curve starter gave up in a start since August 8 at Harrisburg whenJustin Wilson permitted ve runs. Entering Sunday nights game with Richmond, the Altoona starters hadcompiled a 1.90 ERA over its last 18 games.

AUGUSTUS: Altoona hasnt eased o in the month o August as they enter tonights game with 19 winsduring the month. They have now tied their season-high o 19 wins inone month, which they accomplished back in May. The most wins inone month in ranchise history is 20 games, when the 04 Curve went20-9 in the month o June.

MERCER MANIA:Jordy Mercer has hit .368 over his last 16 gameswith 10 RBI. Hes batting .303 in August, which is his second highestbatting average in a month this season (June - .312 in 25 games).
