continued report from Susan Lee

As this is my last newsletter, I want to extend my sincere thanks for the dedication and hard work by many at Seabrook over the years that has contributed to making this a great school. I finish officially at the end of January and hope to visit from time to time but do have acknowledgments and thanks to make that have helped our school gain the reputation it has.

Appreciation and many thanks to all the members of our office team who keep our finances in order, look after sick children, handle enrolment enquires, take charge of communication and take care of all the concerns and needs of everyone through the office area. Schools can’t function without this important engine room.

Thanks to our classroom support staff who help across the school in diverse ways supporting students, teachers, parents and classes every day.

Barry and Joe always do a wonderful job looking after our school grounds and buildings, making improvements, keeping everything in good order and the grounds looking their best. Never ending work! Thank you, boys.

Thanks also to the extra curricula teachers who have instructed the children in keyboard, guitar, singing, after school sports and chess over the recent years. Also, to our crossing supervisors Angie and Helen who do so well in keeping our children safe every day when families are crossing Point Cook Road. Our Kids Hope volunteers normally are regular visitors and have a great impact over the years too. Special thanks to our volunteer Angela for her tireless work in supporting our habitat and planting projects around the school.

Other acknowledgments include Chris our canteen manager. Chris retires this year and I’d like to thank her and her team for their work in serving the community with snacks, drinks and lunches for the children.

We have had many wonderful parents who have volunteered their time on School Council and its sub-committees. Committees include finance, fund raising, parent and friends, and the second-hand uniform shop. Thanks also to other parents who have supported the student banking program for the past years helping us earn additional funds to contribute to school programs. Many parents have volunteered their time to support classroom programs and all these people give their time for the overall benefit of all who attend Seabrook. Thank you and I hope this will continue in the future.

A special heart felt thank-you to each of our assistant principals; Mrs O’Connor, Mrs Lockwood and Mrs Rima for all they do to support the year levels, implementation of the curriculum and care for children and families. Their assistance is what makes a large school operate so well. Ms Treloar too, I thank her for her understanding, kindness and dedication in the well-being of our children, staff and families with support from Laura.

As a school we have never underestimated the role parents play in their children’s education. Again, a huge thank you to you all for encouraging your children to be knowledgeable and caring community members every day. Our job of providing excellent learning opportunities and caring for your children is so much easier when we have this type of support and assistance with learning and everyday operations.

The wonderful work of the PYP will continue thanks to our fabulous team of teachers, assistant principals, leaders and other staff who build relevant curriculum programs and take care of the needs of our school community.

Thanks to everyone for your part in helping make Seabrook such a great school.

continued report from Susan Lee

GOOD BYES The last day of term we will say ‘goodbye’ and a ‘big thank you’ to a couple of other staff including Ms Faye Trevean who is retiring this year, Mr Mathew Buck who returns to his former school. We also thank Mrs Grace Choo for her work over the past few years and wish her well with the birth of her baby. Mrs Jessica Van Spall took leave from us and won’t be returning as she has now set up home in Tasmania.

Ms. Trevean has been in education for approximately 42 years and has contributed significantly to the growth and development of children and her colleagues within the western suburbs over this time. We have benefited from her expertise in supporting young readers while she has worked part time at Seabrook over the past 11 years. We congratulate her on her achievement in education and thank her for being a valued staff member at Seabrook Primary School, wishing her the best for the future.

Ashlea the program coordinator from OSHClub is moving back to her former employment in childcare and we say ‘good bye’ to Andrew Rossborough our visiting psychologist. Our thanks to Ashlea and Andrew for their service to their respective programs.

We are sad to say good bye to all these wonderful staff members and thank them sincerely for their contribution to Seabrook over the past years.

Next year we have some new staff joining our Seabrook team and we will introduce them in the New Year.

GRADE 6 GRADUATION This annual event was held on Wednesday night here at school where our 2020 graduates celebrated their final year at Seabrook. LEARNING WITH CONFIDENCE

On Tuesday 8th of December the kinder students had the opportunity to take part in our school transition program. It was delightful to see how confident the students were when they walked into the school. During transition the students met the classroom teacher, got to see their classroom, took part in a small guided school tour and completed an educational activity.

The Foundation teachers were very impressed with the smooth transition and are really looking forward to working with the students and parents in 2021. It was a very positive visit and a wonderful introduction to Seabrook Primary School.

2020 Grade 6 Graduation 6AA, 6FL, 6JB, 6JD, 6JJ, 6LL

What a year it has been! Never did we foresee the obstacles we'd have to face in 2020 and the amazing perseverance our staff and students have had to practice in order to get them to this final event and conclusion of their Primary School journey.

We were so excited to be back for this rite of passage and were able to create an evening of memories that will last a lifetime in the hearts and minds of our 2020 graduates.

Our 2020 graduation ceremony was an opportunity for leadership, teachers, staff and students to reminisce on their shared journey and accomplishments over the years and

celebrate as one. The evening was filled with fun, laughter and lots of dancing and a great night was experienced by all. Thank you to all the teachers who have shared a part in each students’ learning journey and to our wonderful parents, carers and guardians, whose support over the years has been much appreciated.

Our students are ready to take off and embark on a new chapter in their lives that will continue to shape them and foster their individual passions. We congratulate our Graduates of 2020 and wish them all the very best for the future!

We will forever remember this year.

The Graduation website will be viewable as of FRIDAY 18th of December on the link below.

LEARNING WITH CONFIDENCE

Peace is the desire of every beating heart. It is the hope of every nation, the promise of every politician, the pulse of every religious tradition, the goal of every prayer. At the same time, peace is personal, for each of us longs for security and tranquility in the face of the troubles, anxiety and chaos we experience. Therefore, to create an environment where peace reigns abundantly, we must first strive to achieve peace internally. We also need to understand how to resolve conflicts amongst people to maintain external peace. Finally, we must favour inter cultural communication to create a peaceful society.

Before transmitting the notion of peace and harmony to others, an individual needs to possess internal peace within themselves and their body and mind should be in balance. Stress can make us very sick and disturb peace within ourselves. Further, an unhealthy physical lifestyle with fatty foods and a little exercise will affect our inner tranquility. However, inner peace is gained by meditating, exercising and focusing on foods we consume which can help us to overcome regrets and stressful expectations. Once we may realize that we can control our mindset to harvest peace, we will be better equipped to take responsibility and avoid chaos.

After we have achieved internal peace we must focus on creating peaceful relationships with others, starting from our very own homes. If everyone agrees to put their arrogance aside and to maintain peace in our society, then kindness will emerge. When we have peace in our world, we can live side by side with everyone, trying to create something beautiful or useful for mankind. This can be achieved by teaching our children the different beliefs and personalities of others, demonstrating how to deal with conflicts. Many ideas contribute to solving disputes such as resolving fights, adjusting and adapting to different circumstances. Without peace, our friends can be our enemies and to avoid this we must educate and empower our youth.

To bring growth and prosperity in a society, the path that wiser people take is of peace and harmony. Without peace and harmony in a community, it is impossible to achieve political strength, economic stability, or cultural growth. With peace we are not anymore divided into our community; instead, the world has united with the bond regardless of borders and resulting in the formation of a great and happy global community. And to maintain the well being of every individual of this global community, ultimately everyone has to contribute peace and harmony into the way of our living. We can ensure this by employing the concepts of external and internal peacekeeping as well as making sure that these concepts also have an inter cultural impact.

Peace is not the absence of war but also a state of mind, an individual or collective concept that can be manifested by exploring its social-cultural, political and economical impact. Peace is also when people can resolve conflicts and misunderstandings without violence and work together to improve the quality of living.

Foundation Werribee Open Range Zoo ExcursionOn Wednesday the 9th of December the Foundation cohort and their teachers attended an excursion at the Werribee Open Range Zoo. The excursion supported students in building a deeper understanding of the central idea ‘Places where animals live may be affected by human action’.

Students enjoyed exploring the zoo, going on a safari bus ride and seeing many different habitats and animals such as gorillas, giraffes, hippopotamus, zebras and even some dinosaurs! Everyone had a fantastic day and enjoyed their first ever primary school excursion.

Grade 5 Fun DayThe fabulous Grade 5s had a fantastic Fun day on Monday the 14th of December 2020. It was an opportunity to promote student well-being and build resilience. On this day students performed their end of year concert items in front of their grade 5 peers and also engaged in fun activities throughout the day.

These activities included musical chair, a minute to win it, basketball hoop competition, art and craft activities and watching a movie. It was a hot day but the students and teachers enjoyed every bit of it.

A recording of the concert performance will be made available to families on the 18th December 2020.

Students in 2KA were lucky enough to have another video chat with artist Richard Keville on Wednesday the 9th of December! At the time of our video chat, Richard was down by Skeleton Creek working on the mural! We saw the current progress and learned the process of creating such an incredible mural! We now understand that creating a large mural like this takes many long hours and many weeks to complete! What a great commitment!

To help create the mural, Richard used words from the grade two students’ textual responses! We are excited to see these words on the mural soon! Richard hopes the mural will be completed by the 24th of December 2020, just in time for you and your family to enjoy over the summer holidays!

We encourage our school community to head down to the creek and say hello to Richard. He loves how friendly our neighbourhood is and is excited to see more friendly Seabrook families! Richard and his helpers are doing a fantastic job and we are so happy to have been part of such an incredible project!
