There  are  mes  in  Scripture when  Jesus uses  tough words  that we may not want to  hear.  But,  we  are  all  called  to  be generous with all of our gi s. Not just the ones we pick and choose, but all our gi s, and  especially  the  ones  that  mean  the most  to us! Our  gi s  include our  me  in prayer,  our  talents  in  par cipa ng  in parish  ac vi es  and  our  treasure suppor ng our parish and other chari es. 

Existen ocasiones en las Escrituras cuando Jesús nos habla con palabras  fuertes que nos hacen pensar. Desea recordarnos que todos debemos  ser  generosos  con  todos nuestros  dones.  No  solo  con  los  que escogemos,  sino  con  todos  nuestros dones,  ¡y  en  especial  aquellos  que  son mas importantes para nosotros! Nuestros dones  incluyen  nuestro  empo  de oración, nuestros talentos al par cipar en las  ac vidades  de  la  iglesia  y  nuestro tesoro  al  apoyar  la  parroquia  y  otras caridades.

Brothers and Sisters, Have you ever wondered why sin is so alluring? We try hard to avoid it and we pray for God’s help to conquer our temptations, but it seems like sin has a way of tempting us away from Christ. As your Pastor, I desire nothing more than to be an example of Christ to all of you—to model my life in His love and justice. But, there are times when temptation rears its ugly face and tries to lure me away from virtue. In our Profession of Faith, we are warned about glamours of sin and called to reject it. If we know that sin leads to perdition, why are we so attracted to it? Perhaps it’s because Satan dresses up our sins in the worldly desires we tend to seek most: the things, ideas, places, and actions we struggle to let go. Sadly, each of us has at least one thing (and some of us have more) whose glamour is hard to resist and which is capable of luring us away from our union with God. Today’s Gospel speaks of an interaction between Jesus and a man whose only defining characteristics were his piety and his wealth. This nameless person, while clearly holy and just, is bound to his worldly wealth and possessions which are keeping him from feeling complete. “I preferred [wisdom] to scepter and throne, and deemed riches nothing in comparison with her” (Wis 7:8). No one can question the man’s goodness or his love for God, but his most important treasure is his wealth and his possessions. “You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me” (Mk 10:21). Although he desired eternal life, he wasn’t able to trust that God would provide for his needs. He needed to feel the security that his money and belongings were providing. “He went away sad, for he had many possessions” (Mk 10:22). Although he lacked faith, Scripture tells us that Jesus loved him. In Baptism we have become God’s beloved children, and there’s nothing we can say or do that can ever change this. In His love, God created us with the freedom to choose to love and trust Him. Loving God means that we are willing to place Him before all things: our possessions, bank accounts, needs, desires, families, and even ourselves. God desires to be the center of our lives. While sin is always with us, we cannot make this the excuse for not seeking God. “No creature is concealed from him, but everything is naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must render an account” (Heb 4:13). Perhaps you’re feeling like the rich man whose sin was impossible to give up. If that’s the case, know that God works best in the impossible. “All things are possible for God” (Mk 10:27). Through the grace of repentance, given freely in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we can turn back to the path of holiness. Let us take time this week to reflect on all the sins that are taking us away from God and His love. What must we do in order to foster the one thing missing to reach eternal life? Queridos Hermanos, ¿Porque será que el pecado es tan atractivo? Buscamos evitarlo y le pedimos a Dios la ayuda para vencer nuestras tentaciones, pero parece que el pecado busca la manera de alejarnos de Cristo. Como su Párroco, no deseo nada más que ser un ejemplo de Cristo para ustedes al vivir su amor y su justicia. Pero, hay aquellos momentos cuando la tentación busca inducirme al pecado. En nuestra Profesión de Fe, se nos advierte rechazar la naturaleza seductiva del pecado. Si sabemos que el pecado nos conduce a la perdición, ¿por qué nos atrae tanto? Tal vez sea porque Satanás disfraza nuestros pecados con los deseos mundanos que buscamos más: las cosas, ideas, lugares y acciones que luchamos por soltar. Tristemente, todos tenemos al menos una cosa (y algunos tenemos más) cuyo engaño es difícil de resistir y que es capaz de alejarnos del camino de Dios. El evangelio de hoy nos habla de una interacción entre Jesús y un hombre cuyas únicas características eran su piedad y su riqueza. Esta hombre sin nombre, aunque santo y justo, está atado al mundo por sus riquezas y posesiones las cuales le impiden sentirse completo. “Preferí [la sabiduría] a los cetros y a los tronos, y en comparación con ella tuve en nada la riqueza” (Sab 7:8). Nadie puede dudar de la bondad de este hombre o su amor por Dios, pero su tesoro más preciado son sus bienes. “Sólo una cosa te falta: Ve y vende lo que tienes, da el dinero a los pobres y así tendrás un tesoro en los cielos. Después, ven y sígueme” (Mc 10:21). Aunque deseaba alcanzar la vida eterna, no confiaba en la providencia de Dios. Necesitaba sentir la seguridad que le brindaban su dinero y sus pertenencias. “El hombre se entristeció y se fue apesadumbrado, porque tenía muchos bienes” (Mc 10:22). A pesar de su falta de fe, el evangelio nos dice que Jesús lo amaba. En el bautismo recibimos el don de ser hijos de Dios, y no hay nada que podamos decir o hacer que pueda cambiar esto. En su amor, Dios nos creó con la libertad para amarlo y confiar en él. Amar a Dios significa que estamos dispuestos a ponerlo primero en todo: nuestras posesiones, cuentas bancarias, necesidades, deseos, familias e incluso nuestro propio ser. Dios desea ser el centro de nuestra vida. Aunque el pecado siempre esta con nosotros, no podemos hacer de esto la excusa para no buscar a Dios. “Toda creatura es transparente y todo queda al descubierto ante los ojos de aquel a quien debemos rendir cuentas” (Heb 4:13). Quizás te sientes como el hombre rico cuyo pecado era imposible de renunciar. Si es así, recuerda que Dios obra en lo imposible. “Para Dios todo es posible” (Mc 10:27). Mediante la gracia del arrepentimiento, dada en el Sacramento de la Reconciliación, podemos regresar al camino de la santidad. Tomemos tiempo esta semana para meditar sobre todos los pecados que nos alejan del amor de Dios. ¿Qué debemos hacer para fomentar lo que falta para alcanzar la vida eterna?
