Maui Paddler Maui Paddler, located at the Maui Tropical Plantation, is dedicated to cultural revitalization through environmental restoration and youth education KUPA’AINA EXPLORATIONS PROGRAM This program allows students to participate in cultural activities outside of the school setting. We assist students in developing cultural values and awareness of the Hawaiian culture. Program Objectives 1. Acquire knowledge & skills of Hawaii’s cultural heritage 2. Participate in Hawaiian cultural activities in an interactive and hands on setting. 3. Develop, cultivate, and embody Hawaiian values of being pono, lau lima, aloha, ohana. 4. Improve the health and well- being of participants. 5. Care for and recognize the importance of preserving Hawaii’s unique environment Mala Kalo (dryland Taro patch) huki and kanu i ke kalo (harvesting and planting taro) Ku’i Kalo (poi pounding) Makahiki Games La’au Lapa au (Hawaiian plant uses and medicine) Voyaging and wayfinding Lei making Intro to Wa’a (outrigger canoe) and paddling or any other customized activity ....... Activities CULTURAL ACTIVITIES include traditional Hawaiian chants, crafts, native plant uses, wayfinding and navigation, paddling, legends, ku’i kalo and many more fun activities WAIKAPU HIKE Explore the Waikapu ahupua’a and observe Hawaii’s plants and birds as we walk into the lush Mauna Ka Hale Wai (West Maui Mountains).Visit ancient Loi, and Hawaiian archeological sites. (Weekends only) `AO`AO O NA LOKO I`A O MAUI. Students participate in the rebuilding of a traditional Hawaiian Fishpond built more than 400 years ago.
