MATERIALS

Cutting Instructions• Light fabric cut: 1 – 10” x WOF strip

Subcut: Two 6” x 10” rectangles One 10” square 2 – 2 ½” x WOF strips• 4 - ⅛ yard cuts (or scraps): 32 – 2 ½” squares (8 squares from each ⅛ yard cut)• Green fabric (outer border): 3 – 3” x WOF strips• Red fabric: 1 – 3” x WOF strip subcut into 4 – 3” squares 1 – 2 ½” X WOF strip subcut into 12 – 2 ½” Squares• Red fabric (binding): 3 – 2 ¼” x WOF strips• Yellow fabric (flange): 3 – 1” x WOF strips• OESD Fusible Woven 2 – 5 ½” x 9 ½” rectangles 1 – 9 ½” square

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1• Fuse OESD Fusible Woven stabilizer to back

of the two light rectangles and one light square, centering the stabilizer.

• At the machine, change the jump stitch length to 1 mm and activate thread away (if your machine has these functions).

• Hoop two layers of OESD Ultra Clean and Tear in the Large Oval or Midi Hoop and load design 80283-04, the wording. Center one of the rectangles in the hoop, using temporary spray adhesive if desired. Secure using the basting box in the machine. Stitch the design. When complete, remove excess stabilizer and basting box stitches. Do not remove the fusible stabilizer. Trim block to 4 ½” x 8 ½”. Set aside.

STEP 2• Hoop two layers of OESD Ultra Clean and

Tear as above and load design 80283-06, the house. Center the 10” square in the hoop and stitch, including the basting box. Add and trim appliques when indicated. When complete, remove excess stabilizer and trim block to 8 ½” square and set aside.

STEP 4• Touch the plus and add design 80283-18,

star with dots. It will come in at the center of the hoop. Using the LOWER multifunction knob move the design down below the tree to a position of -570.

STEP 3• Hoop two layers of OESD Ultra Clean and

Tear. Center the last light rectangle on the hoop using temporary spray adhesive or use the hoop basting feature to secure the fabric to the stabilizer. Load design 80283-07, the tree. Rotate so that the trunk is facing to the right.



INSTRUCTIONS

• Touch the plus and add a second star, 80283-18. Use the LOWER multifunction knob to move it above the tree to a position of +570.

• All three designs should be centered vertically. Check this by touching each design and checking their “X” position, it should be 0. The entire design should measure about 3.5” x 6.4”, or 88 mm x 162 mm. The combination of these designs can also be done in software. It is helpful to draw a rectangle 4” X 8” in the software and align the designs inside, as this is the finished size of the block.

STEP 6• Stitch the design. When complete, remove

the excess stabilizer and basting stitches as before. Trim to 4 ½” x 8 ½” and set aside.

• Lay out the embroidered pieces and 2 ½” squares. Piece together into 7 rows. • Note the position of the red squares.• Then sew the rows together as shown below.

• Measure sides, top and bottom. Cut the 2 ½” light inner border fabric strip to size. You should be able to cut a side and a top or bottom piece from one strip. On the sample, the top/bottom pieces are 2 ½” x 12 ½” and the sides are 2 ½” x 24 ½”. Sew the 2 ½” red cornerstones to the top and bottom border pieces. Attach side border pieces and then the top and bottom border pieces.

• Repeat this process to sew the outer borders. You will need to cut both short borders from one strip. On the sample, the top/bottom pieces are 3” x 16 ½” and the side pieces are 3” x 28 ½”. Sew the 3” red cornerstones to the top and bottom border pieces. Attach the side border pieces and then the top and bottom border pieces.

• Place wall hanging onto backing piece with a couple of inches of backing showing all around. There should be enough backing on one end to cut the sleeve piece. Cut a 4” X length of fabric near one selvedge. Trim to 4” x 17”. Fold under a double quarter inch hem on both short sides of the sleeve and topstitch.

• Layer top, batting and backing and quilt as desired. Trim excess batting and backing.• Press flange strips in half lengthwise wrong sides together. Cut one strip in half. On the right

side of the quilt align the raw edges of the long flange pieces on each long side and stitch in place with an 1/8” seam allowance. Trim excess flange fabric. Use the half strips on the top and bottom and stitch in place and trim as above.



• Fold the hanging sleeve in half wrong sides together. Center the raw edges on the back of the wall hanging and along the top. Baste in place.
