The electro-hydraulic 3-point hitch controller.

The PTO switch deliverssmooth, modulated start-ups, regardless of theload. A special computercontrolled PTO brake en-sures smooth stops.

You can lift up to 9,700 kg with yourfingertip. Simply engage this quicklift toggle switch and you will raise(or lower) the 3-point hitch to theheight and depth that you pre-set.Headland turns are quick and simple.

Push-Button Productivity: Leading IMPLEMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The John Deere exclusive ImplementManagement System is easy to set,easy to use. To programme IMS, pushthe “on” touch pad. With the tractormoving, press the “learn” touch pad.Engage the sequence button, 1 or 2on the CommandARM module andexecute your tractor commands.

You can programme the hydraulicremotes to extend, retract, float orcancel; raise the 3-point hitch; disen-gage and re-engage the PTO; shift up,shift down or resume the AutomaticPowerShift transmission. You can alsoengage or disengage the MFWD anddifferential lock.

Once the functions are learned,press the “save” touch pad. Now, thetractor will perform all these functionsat the push of a button.

1. In this example, the operator has pro-grammed the IMS sequence switch #1to raise the plough, disengage theMFWD, disengage the differential lockand downshift two gears. As he reach-es the end of the field, he pushes the#1 sequence button.

2. The operator executes his turn withminimal effort. He executes 5 com-mands with the push of a button.For tight turning angles, the driveshafts on both the IndependentLink Suspension and regularMFWD can be programmed todisengage with IMS.

3. After the turn, he pushes the #2IMS sequence switch. The tractorautomatically reverses all the com-mands completed previously: it lowersthe plough, re-engages the MFWD, re-engages the differential lock and shiftsup two gears. During a long day, IMS isa real fatigue fighter that can addhours to your productivity and helpminimise mistakes.

Front and rear ballast is available to effec-tively ballast the 8020 Series for fieldtraction. Wheel weights are more effectivethan liquid ballast and provide superiortraction performance.

2. Choose the correct ballast for thetractor depending upon applica-

tion. Ballast light for PTO and transport formaximum efficiency, ballast heavier formaximum in-field performance.

3. Adjust tyre inflation pressures,depending upon tractor weight,

based on the performance manual provid-ed with the tractor.

Set flow with our unique, timed detents or adjust on-the-go. Here’sthe easiest hydraulic control systemyou’ll ever use. With just your finger-tips, you can set each individual selec-tive control valve to flow oil for a spe-cific amount of time, continuously orat a rate suitable for your implementand application.

Standard flow is 126 l/min. Thisflow is dedicated to the remote valvesand hitch, so you benefit from full hydraulic power. (A separate 98 l/minpump handles the steering and trans-mission systems.)

Hydraulic controls on theCommandARM moduleprovide complete con-trol with extend, neu-tral, retract, float andtimed detent positions.

You can even feather thecontrol: The further you

push, the more the imple-ment responds.

You can use these padsto set remote hydrauliccylinder upper and lower

limits when your implement isequipped with TouchSet control.

Push this pad to deacti-vate the hydraulic sys-tem prior to implement

transport.

Set individual SCV’s bypressing the corres-ponding Roman numeral

and adjusting the timed detentand flow with two rotary knobs(4 and 5).

This dial sets the lengthof time you wish oil toflow. Every time you en-

gage the hydraulic lever, oil willflow automatically for the speci-fied time set. Times can be setfor each SCV individually.

To set hydraulic flow,simply turn the dial onthe right. Adjust from the

seat, on-the-go whilst the SCV isoperating. Settings are easily re-peated when changing imple-ments.

A large digital displaypermanently shows therate and flow you set, as

well as the flow time.

Automatic PowerShift does more thanchange speeds for you. It thinks, evaluatesand adapts to the changing conditions andapplications of the tractor.

In a draft application the transmission se-lects the optimum forward speed to keep theengine operating at maximum power forhigher productivity and efficiency. Large, inboard planetary final drivesspread the axle load evenly over threepoints, on individual gears and shafts.All gears are designed to provide plentyof strength and load surface area toeasily handle big performance.

The heavy duty casthitch assembly lets youlift and carry 9,700 kg onthe 8320, 8420 and 8520tractors and 8,400 kg on the8120 and 8220 tractors.

Cooled and filtered oil whisks away heatto keep the hydraulically actuated, self adjust-

ing, power wet disc brakes in excellent workingorder. A special friction material is applied to the

discs to reduce chatter and abrasion. The high capacitybrake valves are self equalising to ensure uniform braking for

both wheels. And because these are independent brakes, you can op-erate them together or separately.

The rear housing is a round casting to eliminate stress points. This increases strength for handling additional weight carrying capacity.Pressure lubrication ensures reliable performance and extra long life.

A 26.5 litre clean oil reservoir is located in the top portion of thepump-drive housing. It supplies oil to the tandem pump (chargeand main pump) located on the lower left side of the housing.For extra reliability, an outstanding configuration allows oil tolube the gear set even after shutdown. When the tractor isrestarted, lube oil is already on hand.

Power moves efficiently from the transmission, throughthe pump drive housing and on to the differential.

Industrial type pinion bearings with hardenedthrust washers on each end and a reinforcedcarrier assembly ensure long lasting, peak per-formance.

Shown above is our regular John Deere 4WD axle. Thewheels can caster up to 5° while the axle oscillates up to9° to tighten turns and maintain excellent ground contacton flat land or uneven terrain.
