Why Subject-based Banding?

• Allow every child to take subjects at

levels that best meet his or her aptitudes

and abilities

• Offer a mix of standard and foundation

subjects depending on the child’s abilities

to perform at P5

How will PSLE scores be calculated?

• No change to PSLE scoring system

• Raw mark for each subject is converted to a

transformed score (T-score)

• The Aggregate Score is the sum of the pupil’s

T-score in all subjects

– Each subject carries equal weighting

Page 23: 8 OCTOBER 2015

School Vision: Engaged Learners, Caring Leaders 16

The PSLE final score takes into account :

• Content and demand of each subject

• Number of subjects offered in standard

or foundation

How will PSLE scores be calculated?

Page 24: 8 OCTOBER 2015

School Vision: Engaged Learners, Caring Leaders 17

Why is this so?

• PSLE Aggregate scores are needed for Secondary

School Posting

• Allocation of pupils into Special/Express, Normal

(Academic) or Normal (Technical) course

• Generally, pupils who fail with U grade in one subject

repeat PSLE in all Foundation subjects
