China has launched a retrievable scientific research satellite to aid scientists on Earth in studying microgravity and space life sciences. The satellite was launched by Long March 2-D rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in north-western China’s Gobi desert. The experiments will investigate how radiation affects genetics for which mouse embryos will be observed to see how they develop, as they may give scientists clues about whether it would be possible for humans or animals to reproduce in space.
