Welcome to Verge 2012! We are so excited to be able to serve you over the next few days. We hope that this event is a pivotal time for you, the leadership that God has entrusted to you, and the communities you work in and love. It is such an exciting time to be involved in the mission of God, and we hope that this conference inspires, encourages, and resources you to continue pursuing God’s mission in community.

As a network, Verge seeks to be an advocate and champion for movements of gospel-centered Missional Communities. Our hope is to resource church leaders, students, entrepreneurs, artists, urban innovators, business leaders, community development specialists, non-profit leaders, church planters, and everyday leaders—basically everyone—for the mission of God, in community, for the sake of the Gospel. This is the second official Verge Conference. It was initially launched in 2010 as a gathering for people engaged in the mission of God with the gospel in the context of everyday life. Our first year we sold out three weeks in advance with more than 2,000 attendees and nearly 3,000 people who joined us via live stream from 11 different countries.

The themes that have shaped this year’s conference are incarnational ministry and disciple making. These words are used often in the Missional Church but easily misunderstood. Over the course of the next few days, we hope to explore the biblical understanding of discipleship and its practical implications for ministering to our friends, neighbors, and co-workers in the context of the 21st century. Leading thinkers and practitioners will be your guide as we begin to uncover the ways in which we can personally, locally and globally engage and re-engage in the mission of God. With nearly 100 workshops to choose from, we hope that there will be plenty of opportunities to be renewed in your community’s journey to see the spark of the gospel transform, renew, and multiply.

In all of this we pray that Jesus would be our goal, our hope, our strength, our model, our value, our significance, our worth, and our passion. With you for the gospel,

Michael ‘Stew’ Stewart Verge Conference Founder & Director
