GENERAL INFORMATION

MACHINE INSPECTION

After delivery of your new auger and/or completion ofassembly and before each use, inspection of themachine is mandatory. Use the assembly instructionsin this manual as a reference to determine that theconveyor is assembled properly. This inspectionshould include, but not be limited to:

1. Check to see that all guards listed in the assemblyinstructions are in place, secured and functional. The shields on the PTO driveline must rotate easily.

2. Check all safety signs and replace any that areworn, missing or illegible. The safety signs arelisted in the back of this manual. Safety signsmay be obtained from your dealer or ordered fromthe factory.

3. Check hopper winch and cable for security andoperation.

4. Are all fasteners tight?5. Check the hydraulic hose and fittings to see if they

are tight and not leaking hydraulic oil.6. Check oil levels in gearboxes. See page 18 in the

maintenance section for oil level information.7. Be sure the clean-out door is shut (in bottom of the

inlet hopper) and inspection opening covers are inplace.

Obtain any needed replacement parts from your dealerand install before using the machine.

The Swing Away Auger was designed to use a tractorwith the following:1. 540 RPM Power Take Off2. Adjustable Drawbar3. One hydraulic control circuit for lifting the main

auger. Minimum pressure of 1800 to 2000 PSI.

Adjust the drawbar so there is 14” from the end of thetractor PTO output shaft and the center of the hitchpin. See Fig. 1.

IMPORTANT: If the distance from the end of the tractorPTO and hitch pin is shorter than the recommendeddistance, the auger should NOT be raised. Damageto the PTO driveline, auger hopper assembly, ortractor PTO may result, when the PTO drivelinebottoms out as it compresses.

TRANSPORTING & PLACEMENT

Follow these steps when hitching the auger to thetractor:

1. Lift the auger intake with the jack to the tractordrawbar height. Never raise the intake end higherthan is necessary to attach to a towing vehicle.Weight transfers rapidly to the head end whenthe intake is raised, particularly when the augeris in the raised position.

2. Secure hitch clevis to tractor drawbar with hitchpin and keeper or a bolt with two nuts. See Fig. 1on page 4.

3. Fasten hitch safety chain (not furnished). Seeinstructions in next column.

4. Connect hydraulic hose to tractor. (See page 6for Hydraulic Information.) Be sure hydraulic shutoff valve is closed.

5. Retract hitch jack and rotate into transportposition. (See Fig. 2 on page 6.)

6. The PTO driveline furnished with the auger isequipped with a “Spring-Lock” coupler at thetractor end. This type coupler is spring loadedand will fit the standard 1 3/8" x 6 spline PTOoutput shaft from a tractor. Do not attach PTOdriveline to tractor at this time. The PTO drivelinewill be attached to the tractor during placementof auger. (See Step 1, Sub-Step D., on page 8.)

HITCH SAFETY CHAIN INSTALLATION

An auxiliary attachment system (safety chain) isrequired on public roads to retain the connection betweentowing and towed machines in the event of separationof the primary attachment system. The safety chainshould be routed through the loop anchor welded toend of hitch tube. See Fig. 1 on page 4. A clevis orintermediate chain support should be fastened to thetractor drawbar no more than 6 from the hitch pin.

NOTE: Empty machine before moving to preventupending.

Never stand between tractor andportable auger when hitchingunless all controls are in neutraland the brakes locked.

HYDRAULIC COMPONENTS

The hydraulic components received with your Swing-Away Auger were selected to deliver the mostefficient and economical use. Any parts forreplacement should be replaced with parts of thesame type and size. Replace any hoses or fittingsthat develop leaks.

JACK

When using the jack to support the inlet end of theauger, connect to the jack mount and secure withthe attached pin. After the auger is hitched to atractor, the jack can be rotated 90° into transportposition.

MAIN AUGER LIFT SYSTEM

Standard equipment for your Swing-Away Auger LiftSystem includes the hydraulic cylinder, shut-offvalve, fittings and hydraulic line from the cylinder tothe tractor, with the exception of fittings required toattach hose to tractor. The hydraulic cylinderincludes a restrictor that limits the speed ofoperation. A vent plug is located in the rod end ofthe hydraulic cylinder. A 1/2" female pipe threadtractor fitting is required to fit the shut-off valve (notfurnished).

HYDRAULIC SHUT-OFF VALVEA hydraulic shut-off valve is located at the end ofthe hydraulic hose that connects the tractor to thehydraulic line running to the lift cylinder.

This valve must be fully open before raising orlowering the auger. The valve must be closed at allother times to prevent possible leak-down orinadvertant hydraulic operation.

CAUTION: Do not connect ordisconnect hydraulic componentswhen there is pressure within thesystem. Hydraulic systems are

highly pressurized. Escaping hydraulic oil, even an invisible pinhole leak, canpenetrate body tissues and cause seriousinjury. Use a piece of wood or cardboardwhen looking for leaks. Never use thehands or other parts of the body. Whenreassembling, make absolutely certainthat all connections are tight. If injuredby hydraulic oil escaping under pressure, see a doctor immediately. Seriousinfection or reaction may occur if medicalattention is not received at once.

MOVING THE AUGER

Move the auger with a tractor to or from the workarea. A pick-up truck or other suitable vehicle maybe used for transporting the auger over greatdistances. Comply with your state and localregulations governing marking, towing and maximumwidth. Observe safe driving and operation practices.

Follow these steps when transporting the auger:1. Always transport your auger in the full-down

position. Swing-out hopper must be raised andin the transport position. Check ratchet on thewinch to see it is locked to prevent lowering ofhopper during transport.

2. Hydraulic shut-off valve must be closed.3. Hitch should be secured to tractor and jack stored

in transport position. Fasten hitch safety chain.4. The swing-out hopper safety chain must be

hooked over the hanger on the lift arm. (SeeRaising Hopper into Transport Position on page15.)

Moving your portable auger requires careful planning.Know the transport height of the auger before movingit. Plan your route to avoid overhead obstructionsand power lines.

TRANSPORTING & PLACEMENT

PLACEMENT OF AUGER

Placement - Move the auger into its working positionwith a towing vehicle.

Step 1Locate the auger as close as possible to the bin orstorage structure.

When moving the auger towards working position, leave adequate room so swing-out hopper can bedeployed. Allow room for a convenient path for loadedvehicle to reach the swing-out hopper.NOTE: Position the auger so tractor and auger will bein a straight line during grain conveying operation.A. Place the auger on level surface. The wheels must be allowed to roll freely when raising. Be sure this area is clear of any obstructions.B. Open hydraulic shut-off valve.C. Check swing-out hopper. It should be in transport position.D. Attach the PTO driveline to the tractor. To make

attachment, start sliding the driveline end onto the tractor PTO output shaft. Compress the spring keeper on the PTO driveline and continue to slide onto the tractor PTO output shaft until the keeper seats in the groove on the tractor PTO output shaft.

Then the spring keeper will return to its originalposition and the PTO driveline will be locked onto

the tractor PTO output shaft.

Do not engage the PTO when swing-out hopper is intransport position.

FIG. 6

STEP 1Locate auger next to bin

STEP 2Raise auger

STEP 3Back intoposition

Step 2Raise the auger only high enough to allow minimumclearance above the bin.

NOTE: Avoid lifting auger on side slope that isgreater than 5%.

Step 3Back the auger slowly with tractor (not by hand) overbin or grain storage structure. NOTICE: Avoid turnswhile moving the auger when the PTO driveline isattached to the tractor. Maneuvering with the PTOdriveline attached will result in driveline damage notcovered by warranty. Make sure the tractor is exactlyin line with the auger during PTO operation. Lowerthe auger until the discharge is directly over theopening.* Place tractor in park, set brake and chockwheels. Close hydraulic shut-off valve to preventlowering or inadvertent raising of auger.

It is a good practice to tie the discharge end ofthe auger to the bin or grain storage structure toprevent possible wind damage. Remember tountie the auger before attempting to move. Donot attempt to increase auger height bypositioning wheels on lumber, blocks or by othermeans.

*NOTE: When discharging in a grain spreader, alwaysmaintain at least 12 inches space between the augerdischarge and the spreader. (Allow for lowering of thedischarge end as auger fills with grain during operation.)

DANGER: Make certain everyone isclear of the work area whenmoving the auger. To prevent tip-over when backing, avoid rolling

over any obstructions. Also avoid moving theauger at right angles to a slope. If the augeris to set on a slope, approach the bin uphill.

Make sure entire area above auger and inline of travel is clear of overhead obstructionsand electrical wires. Failure to do so mayresult in electrocution. Maintain at least ten(10) feet of clearance. Electrocution canoccur without direct contact.

1028539-11

GENERAL AUGERINFORMATION

The operator shall be aware of anyunusual vibrations, noises and theloosening of any fasteners.

Keep all safety shields and devices in place.

Keep hands, feet and clothing away frommoving parts.

Our augers are well made and we are proud of our lineof equipment. We would like you, as our customer, todo your part in using caution and good judgement inusing our equipment, as well as any other machinery.

It is important to be familiar with the following routineoperation procedures before attempting start-up.

During the operation of your auger, one person shallbe in a position to monitor the operation. Inspect thedrive before adding power and know how to shut downin an emergency. (See page 12.) Visually inspect theauger periodically during operation. For efficient andsafe operation, be aware of all the adjustments andchecks which should be performed.

The operator shall have a full view of the auger workarea and check that all personnel are clear of hazardareas before adding power.

Only use an agricultural tractor with 540 RPM powertake-off.

The 8" & 10" augers may be operated at speeds from450 to 540 RPM.Auger flight speed in excess of recommended speedcauses excessive wear.Do not attempt full load operation at speeds below450 RPM as high torque requirements may damagethe auger.

The swing-out hopper must be in working position andsecurely attached to the inlet hopper before start-up.Close all clean-out and inspection doors beforeoperation.

IMPORTANT: The PTO driveline is equipped with aCV (constant velocity) joint, located at the auger endof the PTO driveline. The PTO driveline should beoperated in a horizontal position for the CV joint towork properly.

The hitch must be properly attached to the tractordrawbar. See Figure 1, page 4.

NOTE: The PTO driveline is equipped with a shearbolt at the tractor connection. The shear bolt protectsthe auger from damage if the auger becomes pluggedor subjected to high loads.

Page 12 OPERATING PROCEDURES

CHECK THE FOLLOWING BEFORE ADDINGPOWER:

START-UP

1028539-12

Engage PTO at a slow RPM to minimize shock loads. Then work up RPM to recommended speed.

Never operate the auger empty for any length of timeas excessive wear will result. If at all possible, do notstop or start the auger under load, especially beforethe flight and tube become well polished, as this maycause the auger to “freeze-up” (See “BREAK-ININFORMATION” below.)

IMPORTANT: Regulate the grain flow into themain auger by controlling the amount of grainfed to the swing-out hopper. Overfeeding theswing-out hopper will plug the main auger.

BREAK-IN INFORMATIONAny screw conveyor when it is new or after it sets idlefor a season should go through a “break-in” period.DO NOT operate the auger empty. The auger shouldbe run at partial capacity until several hundred bushelsof grain have been augered to polish the flightingassembly and tube. Once this is accomplished, theauger can be run full.

SHUTDOWNA. NORMAL SHUTDOWN Make certain that the hopper and auger are empty before stopping the unit. Before the operator leaves the work area, the power source shall be locked

out (See LOCKOUT.)

B. INTERMITTENT OPERATION SHUTDOWN When an auger is stopped and restarted under full load, it may result in damage to the auger.

Therefore, if intermittent operation is to be carriedout, it is advisable to reduce the load level. Whenkept from absolute filling, auger start-up is easierand operation is more efficient.

C. EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN Should the auger be immediately shutdown under

load - disconnect and lockout the power source.Clear as much grain from hoppers and auger asyou can. Never attempt to restart when full. Useclean-out door in the bottom of main auger inlethopper.

NOTE: Starting the unit under load may result in damage to the auger. Such damage is considered abuse of the equipment. When as much grain as possible has been cleared, reconnect power source and clear auger gradually.

Before starting the tractor, be certainpower to PTO is off.

Be certain the PTO driveline is securelyattached to the auger and the tractor.

Use a PTO driveline with a rotating shieldin good working order that can be turnedfreely on the shaft.

Use recommended distance from end oftractor PTO to hitch pin. (See page 4.)

Stay out of designated hazard area of anoperating PTO. Observe work arearestriction. (See work area diagram onpage 10.)

OPERATING PROCEDURES

02039A1-A1 1028539-13

RELOCATION OF AUGER

WARNING: If the operator must leavethe work area, or whenever servicingor adjusting, the auger must be

stopped and the power source turned off.Precaution should be made to preventanyone from operating the auger when theoperator is absent from the work area.

Remove ignition key or coil wire from power source.(If this is impossible, remove the PTO driveline fromthe work area.)

RELOCATION OF AUGER

When grain conveying operation is completed, theauger should be moved away from the bin and lowered. The auger can then be moved to a different bin formore conveying operations or cleaned up and stored.

OPERATING CAPACITIES

The results or capacities of screw conveyors or augerscan vary greatly under diverse conditions. Differentmaterials, moisture content, amounts of foreign matter, angle of operation, methods of feeding and speed allplay a role in performance of the auger. Roughly 3200BPH on 8" units and 4500 BPH on 10" models will beachieved augering reasonably dry grain. Maximumpossible capacity will be less with high moisture grain(above 15%) than with dry grain.

STEP 3Move to next bin or unhitch.

STEP 2Lower auger.

STEP 1Move away from bin.

STEP 1NOTE: On augers with side drive kit, first hitch tractorto drawbar and connect the hydraulic lift hose to thetractor.A. Empty the auger and clean up area. The swing-out

hopper must be raised before moving the mainauger. (See raising hopper into transport positionon page 15.)

B. Untie any anchors and remove all supports.C. Open the hydraulic shut-off valve.D. Raise the auger so the discharge spout is clear of

bin opening.E. Remove wheel chocks.F. Move auger slowly away from the bin with tractor.NOTICE: Avoid turns while moving the auger whenthe PTO driveline is attached to the tractor.Maneuvering with the PTO driveline attached will re-sult in driveline damage not covered by warranty.

STEP 2A. Lower auger immediately after clear of bin or storage

structure.IMPORTANT: Lower the auger, even if relocatingto a bin in the immediate area.

B. Disconnect the PTO driveline and place in storageposition. Use storage hook to support the PTOdriveline as shown in Fig. 10 on page 14.

STEP 3A. Move the auger to next bin or storage area. If

movement to next location involves road transport, follow instructions on page 5. We recommend thatthe auger be stored in the full down position.

B.Inspect the auger as outlined in the “MachineInspection Section” on page 4.

Follow these steps to unhitch the auger:NOTE: When the tractor must be disconnected fromthe auger in the raised position, tie the discharge endof the auger to the bin or structure to prevent possiblewind damage.

A. The hydraulic shut-off valve must be closed.B. Relieve tractor internal hydraulic pressure. Then

disconnect the hydraulic hose from the tractor.C. The auger wheels should be chocked to prevent

the auger from rolling.D. Place jack into the lifting position and remove hitch

weight from tractor drawbar. Be sure jack pin isproperly set to prevent jack from rotating on mount.

E. Remove safety chain and hitch pin. Disconnectthe tractor from the auger.

F. Open clean-out door in bottom of main inlet hopperto clean out excess grain and allow water to drainduring storage.

CAUTION: Never raise the intake end higher thannecessary to attach to a towing vehicle. Weightis transferred rapidly to the head end when theintake is raised, particularly when the auger isin a raised position.

Never stand between tractor andauger when hitching unless allcontrols are in neutral and thebrakes locked.

The PTO driveline should be placed in the storageposition when not attached to the tractor. Tilt the PTOdriveline up and swing support hook under the drivelineto support the weight of the driveline. See Fig. 10.“

GENERAL

1026857-16

For economical and efficient operation of your augermaintain regular and correct lubrication. Neglect leadsto reduced efficiency, excessive wear and needlessdown time. The following will detail the parts needinglubrication and the various conditions which determinethe time span.

MAIN HEAD BALL BEARINGThe main auger head bearing is a self-aligning, sealedball bearing, which has been packed at the factory, andrequires no lubrication. There is no adjustment to bemade to the bearing, but check that the bearing is firmlyfastened. Also check that the setscrews in the lock collarare tight against the shaft, securing the lock collar to theshaft.

Keep all safety shields anddevices in place.Never clean, adjust or lubricate amachine that is in operation.

FRICTION TYPE WINCHThe Swing-Out Hopper is lifted into transport position bya friction type winch. This type of winch requires thefollowing maintenance:

A. LUBRICATION. All gears must be clean andlubricated (auto-type grease) to insure proper and safeoperation. All shafts, bushings and ratchet parts mustbe clean and wet with oil (auto-type 10W-30) to insureproper and safe operation.

B. BRAKE DISC: Brake disc wear can be inspected byremoving handle retainer assembly, handle and brakedisc cover. Brake discs should be replaced if thethickness is less than 1/16”, cracked or broken. DO NOTUSE OIL OR GREASE ON FIBER BRAKE FACES.

WARNING: If brake disc mechanishm operatesintermittently or erratically, brake disc inspectionshould be accomplished.

C. BRAKE RATCHET MECHANISM. Check ratchetoperation by listening for “clicking sound” when cable isreeled in (turn handle clockwise). Also, when the cableis reeled out, there will NOT be a clicking sound of theratchet. Brake ratchet parts can be inspected for wornparts and unsafe conditions by removing handle retainerassembly, handle and disc cover.

PTO DRIVELINE U-JOINT

The PTO driveline has five fittings that requirelubrication. See Fig. 15 below for location of fittings. The first lube interval should be 16-24 hours of operationafter intitial start-up then follow this schedule.

NOTE: For lubrication of the u-joint on the auger end, loosen four bolts that hold the PTO driveline shield tothe gearbox and rotate shield up.

Lubricate all fittings with a good quality lithium soapbase E.P. grease meeting the N.L.G.I. #2specifications and containing no more than 1%molybdenum disulfide. (EX. Shell super duty orequivalent) An E.P. grease meeting the N.L.G.I. #2specifications and containing 3% molybdenumdisulfide may be substituted in the telescoping, andCV ball and socket members only. (EX. Mobil OilCompany, “Mobil Grease CMP”; Shell Oil Company,“Retinax AM”. Texaco, “Molytex EP #0 and #2".)

REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE NOT LUBRICATEDReplacement parts must be lubricated at time ofassembly. Use amount listed above per location thenfollow lube recommendations outlined above for lubingintervals.

PTO DRIVELINE SHEAR BOLT

The PTO driveline is equipped with a shear bolt at thetractor connection. The shear bolt protects the augerfrom damage if the auger becomes plugged orsubjected to high loads. It is important to use thecorrect replacement bolt of the proper size andstrength to insure that the shear device will protectthe auger and operator.

Before engaging PTO, be surePTO driveline shaft shields turnfreely on shaft.

IMPORTANT: Under working conditions oil willdissipate. Check oil in gearboxes periodically andmaintain proper level.

For checking the oil level in the upper gearbox, useaccess door in the side of spout. Remove plug inside of gearboxes to check oil level. The oil must beup to the plug level.

GEARBOX U-JOINTS

Two u-joints connect the incline tube gearbox and inlethopper gearbox. These should be lubricated atapproximately (10) hour intervals with SAE multi-purpose type grease. To lubricate the upper u-joint,open the large hinged door on the head of the inclinedauger. The zerk can be reached with the swing awayhopper in any position, but it works best if the hopperis on the ground and rolled as close to the tractor orfront as possible. This turns the open side of the u-joint with the zerk more towards the open end door. Ifthe hopper is hanging on the auger, the zerk will beaccessible only from the back where it is not visibleand must be engaged mostly by feel. A grease gunwith a flexible rubber hose tip is a must. Also, theauger must be rotated so the zerk is in an accessibleposition, as with any universal joint with a zerk fitting.

For lubrication in normal operating temperaturesbetween 40°F to 120°F, we recommend the use ofnon-foaming, multipurpose gear oil, SAE 90 weight. For temperatures below 40°F use SAE 80 weight oil.Use grade commercially available for automotivedifferentials. Extra pressure additives may be of valuein severe applications.

DO NOT ADD MORE OIL THAN RECOMMENDEDABOVE. ADDITIONAL OIL MAY DAMAGE THESEALS.

The lower u-joint can be greased through a smallaccess door on the front of the hopper. Again, theauger must be rotated until the zerk is facing theopening.

SWING-OUT HOPPER FLIGHT U-JOINT

A u-joint connects the hopper and the inclined flightat the hopper elbow. This should be lubricated atapproximately (10) hour intervals with S.A.E.multipurpose type grease. To lubricate the u-jointsremove the cover strap and raise hinged cover. Besure to close the cover and replace cover strap beforeoperating unit.

HYDRAULIC CYLINDER

The hydraulic cylinder is equipped withan air breather in the rod end port. Oilleaking from the air breather indicatesleaking rod seals. Replace damagedor leaking seals.

HYDRAULIC HOSE

Check all the hydraulic fittings and hose to see if theyare tight and not leaking hydraulic oil. Replace anyhydraulic hose that may be cut or damaged.

WARNING: DO NOT OPERATEUNIT WITHOUT HINGED COVERCLOSED AND STRAP PROPERLYINSTALLED.

CAUTION: Do not connect ordisconnect hydraulic componentswhen there is pressure within thesystem. Hydraulic systems are

highly pressurized. Escaping hydraulic oil, even an invisible pinhole leak, can penetratebody tissues and cause serious injury. Use apiece of wood or cardboard when lookingfor leaks. Never use the hands or other partsof the body. When reassembling, makeabsolutely certain that all connections aretight. If injured by hydraulic oil escapingunder pressure, see a doctor immediately.Serious infection or reaction may occur ifmedical attention is not received at once.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

UNDERCARRIAGE AXLESPINDLE BEARING

Tapered roller type bearings are standard on all augersand should be repacked with grease and adjustedannually or as needed, determined by usage.

Care must be used in dismantling wheel bearingassemblies. See Fig. 19. First remove the dust capby prying around the edges. Remove the cotter pin, slotted nut and flat washer. Carefully remove the huband bearings from the spindle. Inspect all parts forwear or damage and replace with new ones, ifnecessary.

When reassembling the hub, repack both bearingcones with grease and fill the hub cavity 1/3 full. Placeinner bearing assemblies into the hub, and then pressseal into hub and carefully reinstall the hub on thespindle. When placing hub on spindle be careful notto damage the lip of the grease seal. Install outerbearing assembly into the hub, and replace flat washerand slotted nut. Then tighten the slotted nut to sealthe bearings until the hub binds as you rotate hub.Back off the slotted nut to the next slot and install anew 5/32" x 1 1/4" long cotter pin. Replace dust cap.

LOW CAPACITY

The main auger may be getting too much grain whereit is “jamming” inside the housing. Reduce grain flowinto swing-out hopper.

Is the auger free of any foreign material, such assacks, tarp corners, etc? A plug of the discharge cancause an auger plug.

EXCESSIVE AUGER NOISEDamage to the auger housing can occur, causinginterference with rotating auger flighting.

Damage can occur to the auger flighting, thus causingnoise. Damage usually occurs because of the foreignmaterial having been run through the auger. It may benecessary to remove the flighting for inspection.

AUGER LOWERING BY ITSELFCheck all hydraulic fittings, hose and connections forleaks. Check that the hydraulic shut-off valve isclosed.

AUGER WILL NOT RAISE OR LOWERCheck if hydraulic shut-off valve is open. See if thehydraulic coupler is properly attached to the tractorand the tractor reservoir is full of oil. The tractorpressure is too low.

FREQUENT SHEARING OF DRIVELINE SHEARBOLTReduce flow rate of grain into ground hopper.Discharge of grain from main auger may be restricted.Inspect auger intake and discharge areas for damage.

IMPORTANT:An auger should be frequently checked and servicedto operate freely. Keep all guards and shields in place.Replace any that are damaged or lost. An auger shouldbe run partially full for several hundred bushels to polishthe flighting when it has not been used for an extendedperiod of time. An auger with flighting that has notbeen polished in this manner requires greaterhorsepower and damage to the drive and/or flightingcan result if overloaded.

Our augers are well made and we are proud of ourline of equipment. We would like you, as ourcustomer, to do your part in using caution and goodjudgement in using our equipment as well as any othermachinery. Any parts for replacement should bereplaced with parts of the same type and size. Do notmodify or alter any of the auger components.

TROUBLE SHOOTING - CONT.

LOW CAPACITYThe main auger may not be getting enough grain.Check to see the swing-out hopper intake has notbridged over restricting flow. The exposed flighting atthe swing-out hopper intake should be covered withgrain to achieve maximum capacity. Check augerspeed. Slow speed below recommended speed willresult in low capacity.

SWING-OUT HOPPER LIFT ARM,CABLE AND WINCH ASSEMBLY (con’t.)

5. Attach the 3/16” x 26’ long lift cable to the winchdrum so the cable wraps under the drum when turninghandle in a clockwise direction (Fig. 58) . From insidethe drum, insert the cable through one of the roundholes in the drum side until it extends 1” past thetwo square holes.Clamp the cable to the side of the drum with thecable keeper and two 3/16” x 3/4” carriage bolts, lock washers and non-lock nuts (the head of thebolts will be on the inside of the drum).

6. Mount the winch to the winch mount plate using two3/8" x 1" long bolts with flatwashers and nylonlocknuts. Use a flat washer on each side of the winchplate where there is a slot. C. Move the lift arm to the other side of the auger

housing arranging cables so they are not crossed.D. Reassemble the clevis plates and pulley to clevis

anchor on towards the side the hopper will be hung.E. Install the lift arm into the mounting tube from the

other side of the auger tube and reinstall retainingpin. Check cable to be sure it was not tangledduring the change over.

CAUTION! The cable keeper alonewill not hold the weight of the hopper. There should be enough cable sowhen the swing-away hopper is fulldown, there are at least 3 turns ofcable on the winch drum. Never letthe cable all the way out. Alwayskeep a minimum of three (3) wraps ofcable on the winch drum.If there are not three (3) wraps ofcable around the winch drum whenthe swing-away hopper is fullylowered, then the cable must bereplaced with a longer cable.

8. Attach cable hook to lift cable using two 3/16" cableclamps (secure the clamp with the u-bolt portion ofthe clamp against the loose end of the cable).IMPORTANT! Do Not attach the lift cable to thesafety chain.

NOTE: The swing-out hopper can be stored eitheron the right or left side of the main auger. It can be changed to the other side of the mainauger by:A. Removing the 1/2" x 3 1/8” long retaining pin and

sliding the lift arm out of the mounting tube.B. Disassemble the clevis plates and pulley from the

anchor on the underside of the auger housing.
