The Seven WondersSelected by the Ancient

GreeksWhen the ancient Greeks decided to select seven wonders from the many impressive structures that had been constructed throughout history, there was a lot of argument about which structures to select.

Over the years, many different lists were created. Finally, a list was presented that most Greeks agreed included the seven most wondrous wonders, each a unique achievement.

There are three main pyramids in Giza

Khufu – the largest pyramid, known as the Great Pyramid

Khafre – Khufu’s son’s tomb, 2nd largest pyramid, and it is easily recognizable by its’ limestone cap

Menkaure – Built for Khufu’s other son, it is the smallest of the three pyramids

The Pyramids are the only world wonder still standing today…

Hanging Gardens of BabylonHanging Gardens of Babylon

According to accounts, the gardens were built to cheer up Nebuchadnezzar's homesick wife, Amyitis.

The land she came from, was green, rugged and mountainous, and she found the flat, sunbaked terrain of Mesopotamia depressing.

The King constructed an artificial mountain with roof top gardens to remind his queen of her homeland

The gardens do not hang, it was just a mistake in translation

Although the statue has been popularly depicted with its legs spanning the harbour entrance so that ships could pass beneath, it was actually posed in a more traditional Greek manner: nude, wearing a spiked crown, shading its eyes from the rising sun with its right hand, while holding a cloak over its left.

The statue was built as a tribute to the Rhodians patron god, Helios

It was built after their underdog victory against Demetrius’ army of 40,000
