With appreciation, James McGarrity 7 th Ward Commissioner 610-446-8088 From Commissioner Jim McGarrity THE KEVIN CAIN MEMORIAL FOUNDATION HELPING PEOPLE FIGHT CANCER The 7 th Annual Kevin Cain Memorial 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk was held last month on Sunday, April 7 th . The over 745 participants on a beautiful Sunday afternoon traversed the tree lined streets of this wonderful community of neighborhoods - the very streets and neighborhoods that Kevin himself lived life and called home. Husband, father, friend, coach, and mentor, he continued to help others and live life to its fullest in spite of his illness. In June of 2005, Kevin Cain lost his battle to cancer but the Cain family continues to fight the war. During treatment, Kevin and his wife Rose met many families; all of them who were strained emotionally, most of them strained financially. A diagnosis of cancer means ongoing medical visits, physician consults, expensive medication and treatments, time lost at work, precious moments lost with family, all aimed at an uncertain destiny. This is the war that the Kevin Cain Memorial Foundation continues to fight in his memory. Their mission is to provide assi support is vital to the Kevin Cain Foundation and to the families they reach out to with emotional and financial assistance. The Kevin Cain Memorial Foundation greatly appreciates everything the community and everyone involved does to make this foundation effective. As a community leader, I thank you for your continued show of support for the Kevin Cain Memorial Foundation. Thank you to our community of neighbors and friends that make up the army of foundation workers who continue to fight the war against cancer. Thank you to our spiritual neighbors such as the Church of the Annunciation BVM and the Temple Lutheran Church. Thank you to our community businesses and organizations that aid in financial support. Thank you to our community of runners and walkers who push themselves to the finish line for their personal best. And thank you to our community neighborhoods that welcome race day and come out to cheer. This is our community. These are our neighbors. This is our race. And as a community of neighbors, this race is our fight. Lets own it! www.kevincain.org
