Turkey Alias Project
“In order to escape my fate as a Thanksgiving turkey, I have disguised myself as Cinderella. Every day I scrub the house until it shines, then I cook for my two wicked step-sisters and my wicked step-mother. I sleep next to the hearth and my face and hair get covered with ashes and soot. My hair is singed by the heat of the fire. I get covered in the cinders of the crackling logs, hence my name Cinderella. My step-mother and my step-sisters and I live in my late father’s cabin. I eat bread and butter and drink fresh water from the well. I don’t go anywhere except to the market once a week, and when I do get out of the house, I must walk. A ball is to be held tonight for the prince and as usual I am forbidden to attend. However, I know that someday my prince will come.”

Whose Phone Is This?
• Complete the “Whose Phone Is This?” assignment for the protagonist or antagonist of the book you are currently reading.
• You can turn your phone in on the template provided, or you can get creative and make it a phone “booklet” like we did at the beginning of the year. Whichever you choose, be sure your final product looks like a final product. Remember, it isn’t about just getting it done to get an A. It’s about taking those extra steps to make your work stand out!
• You may access additional copies of the template on the password protect page of the blog.
• Phones are due Monday, December 10th at the beginning of class.
Personal Vocabulary Log
By Friday morning of each week, you will choose a minimum of one word per week to learn and add to your personal vocabulary. Students should “collect” MANY more words than just one per week; however, one word must be logged each week (by Friday) for a grade. Students will use the Personal Vocabulary Template to keep track of the words they are collecting. Students will be submitting their weekly vocabulary word via an Office 365 form. The link is available on the Independent Vocabulary page on the blog.
There is also a printable version on the Independent Vocabulary page on the blog you can use to submit your weekly word if you experience connectivity issues. You are also welcome to create your own log on a sheet of notebook paper as long as you include all of the same requirements.
All digital submissions should be completed prior to 9:15 on Friday mornings. Printed submissions are due immediately upon entering the classroom.
New for the month of November– you will receive ONE grade for your November words. You must still submit a minimum of one word each week.
Remind—
• Text the “@mmburch” to 81010 to be included on my Remind updates.
• I will use this app to remind students of important dates and happenings. I will also use it to remind students when I am having morning workshop.
Supplies to Help Our Class Scotch Tape– We will need a lot of tape for our notebooks. Refills are best, but we can use the disposable rolls also!
Tissues– We will need our tissues replenished several times throughout the year. Be sure to check the slides regularly for updates onour current needs!
Hand Sanitizer– The same with tissues! We will go through this a lot so look for updates later in the year in case we run out!
Clorox Wipes– I like to have my students help me sanitize the classroom on a regular basis. The best way to keep our room germ free is to have plenty of wipes to clean up!
Computer Paper– We use white unlined paper for lots of assignments throughout the year. I have purchased a box of paper, but we can always use more. This is not for “handouts”. The paper provided by parents will be used for student printing in the classroom as well as assignments in class that require something other than notebook paper for completion.
Notebook Paper– While I ask that each student bring a small binder with notebook paper to class with them, it always helps to have notebook paper available in the classroom. The more paper we have available that students can just have access too, the less time we spend tracking down paper for those who may not have paper with them.
Highlighters– Light colors are the best.
Colored Pencils– Colored pencils work great for marking the text in our Springboard books (pen and highlighter sometimes bleed through). They are also useful for producing final products and personalizing items in the classroom.
Dry Erase Markers– We use small dry erase boards in the classroom as well as actually writing on our tables. The fine tip markers are best for these activities but we can use anything. The dry erase markers don’t always last as long as we need, so check back for updates incase we run low.
Composition Notebooks–Any donations of additional composition books would be greatly appreciated. These donations will go directly to a student in need.
