In the absence of President Greg (working in Newcastle) it was an honour to fill the role of acting

President for Tuesday’s meeting, which coincided with DG Roy Armstrong’s visit to our club

together with spouse Merilyn and ADG David Lloyd.

It is always a good idea to get the name of the guest speaker correct, especially when it’s the

District Governor’s, so naming him correctly with Roy and not Ray would have helped. Put it down

to nerves in an unfamiliar role. I guess I paid for the mistake via the fine box.

Roy had met with the Board the previous evening, sharing a meal at Cafe va Bene. He re-iterated

the same message to the Club; namely his satisfaction with the health of the club and his

excitement on the current plans and visions of the Board and members. Roy also suggested some

ideas on how to take advantage of Matching Grants and encouraged us to continue our support of

The Rotary Foundation.

Roy said that we have a great foundation for a successful club to grow within the community. He

also left some good ideas on how to increase our exposure to the community and improve our

profile. In summary Roy said that whilst all clubs are autonomous and do their own thing it is

important to maintain the ideals of Rotary in an ever changing world.

Roy’s message was very clear as he repeated his own theme for his year as District Governor; it’s

important to enjoy Rotary and “Have Fun”.

Tuesday 13th November is the date set for one of our rare evening meeting, including Partners.

Please confirm with Wayne Abbott. The outgoing GSE team bound for Korea early next year will be

showing us their presentation. A 2 course dinner, costing $29 per head with choice of 4 menus has

been selected. More details to follow. It’s less than 2 weeks away, so please get back to Wayne,

pronto.

The Rotary District Conference is a great opportunity to:

We are very lucky that the 2013 Conference will be held relatively close by and I encourage all club members

to attend. Accommodation in the Barossa will be in great demand and short supply, so will need to be

booked quickly.
