    DETERGENT CONCENTRATION

Hotsy TubM ate Al l-Pur pose Deter gentis the only detergent approved for use with Hotsy

aut omatic parts wa shers. It is specially formulat ed with rust inh ibitors and a nti-foam ing agents

to optimize performance and minimize maintenance. The use of any other detergent during the

wa rra nty period will void the warr an ty.

To monitor th e approximat e concent ra tion of detergent in th e wa sh solution, periodically exam inethe w ash solution in the sump cha mber for t he following indicat ors:

Rust inside the machine: not enough detergent

    Excessive foaming: not enough detergent

Thick, white residue on parts after washing: too much det ergent

To mainta in proper detergent concentra tion add detergent each month a fter clea ning the sum p

cham ber. The recommended detergent q ua ntit y for norma l opera ting conditions is 12 pounds (24

cups). For hea vy du ty opera ting condit ions use 24 pounds (48 cups).

    PREPARING THE MACHINE FOR USE

B efore you begin to wa sh part s, it is importa nt t ha t you properly prepar e the ma chine. B efore you

begin to use the ma chine each day:

    check the water level and a dd wat er to the sump tan k i f necessary ;

hea t the wa ter to opera t ing t empera ture

    ad d detergent if necessary (see Detergent Concentra tion);

ver i fy tha t none of the spray nozzles a re clogged; and

    clean the debr is screen.

    WASHING PARTS

The following procedure assumes tha t t he heater is on a nd t he sump wa ter is a t opera ting

    temperature.

To wa sh par ts, perform t he followin g procedure.

    WARNING

Hot, high-pressured cleaning solution could cause serious injury. Always wear rubber gloves and approved eye

protection when loading and unloading the machine.

    1. L oa d p a r t s in t o t h e ma ch in e.

Load lar ge, heavy part s directly onto the turnta ble.

Secure large, light parts (valve covers for example) to the turntable using suitable rubber

    tie-downs.

Load sma ll, light par ts into the optional sma ll parts ba sket, if provided with your ma chine.

    NOTE

For optimum cleaning performance, provide a slight clearance between parts to allow adequate flow of cleaningsolution around and between them.

    2. C lose and la t ch the door.

    3. Set the wa sh cycle t imer to between 1 and 60 minutes for a t imed wash cycle, or set i t to

Hold for a continuous wa sh.

    4. When the machine aut omatically stops (or aft er you man ually stop the wa sh cycle), open the

door a nd w ait a few moments to allow th e parts to cool a nd dry before removing them. Most

    parts will flash-dry in seconds.

    SHUTTING DOWN THE MACHINE

To shut down t he ma chine at the end of the day:

    set the wash cycle t imer to OFF;

    s et t h e h ea t e r t im er t o OFF; and

shut off the wa ter at the supply spigot (if a d edicated wa ter supply is insta lled).

    WARNING

If the heater is left on unattended, the wash solution could evaporate and the oil and grease in the sumpchamber could catch fire.

For periods of extended shut-down, disconnect all power to the machine.

If your machine is equipped with an optional programmable heater timer, periodically verify the settings to

    prevent inadvertent unattended operation.

    Using the Oil Skimmer System

The Oil Skimmer S yst em is most effective if used aft er the cleaning solution in th e sump ha s been

sit t ing for a t least 30 minutes. The frequency a t which you must remove the oil from the w ash

solution will depend on ma chine usage. Un der typical opera ting conditions you can expect to

remove the oil once a w eek.

To remove oil from the clean ing solut ion, perform th e followin g procedure:

    1. Allow t he machine to sit idle for a t least 30 minutes to allow the oil to float to the surface of

    the wa sh solution.

    2. En sure tha t th e oil collection conta iner is in place (see Figure 5-4), then turn the skimmer

    sw itch t o the 30-minut e position.

    3. Allow t he oil skimmer to opera te until it is no longer extracting oil from the cleaning solution.

    TIP

While extracting oil from the cleaning solution, oil will flow off the wiper blades in a fine continuous stream. Water

will flow off the blades in droplets. Once droplets begin to flow off the wiper blades, stop the skimmer motor.

    4. Dispose of the oil in the collection container in accorda nce with local and st at e regulations,
