May 19th and 20th, 2018
Mpusia, Thank You, Grazie, Merci.
We would like to thank St. Joseph the Worker community for your support of the Queen Mother Veronica Project fund raising dinner. It was a great success. Special thanks to Father Alfredo for his support and encouragement, Thank you to Jennifer and Sandi for helping with all the details required to make the evening go as smoothly as possible. Thank you to the St. Joseph's Youth group for helping with bussing tables and clean up of the hall at the end of the dinner. Thank you also to everyone who bought tickets and donated money to Queen Mother Veronica's work. We could not have put on this dinner without the help and support of all of you.
Queen Mother Veronica will be with us in Victoria till May 26th. We look forward to sharing Queen Mother Veronica's work with the St. Joseph's community on May 22nd.

Pentecost
Today concludes the Easter season, the fifty days that, from Jesus’ resurrection to Pentecost, are marked in a particular way by the presence of the Holy spirit. The Spirit is in fact the Easter Gift par excellence. He is the Creator Spirit, who constantly brings about new things. The Holy Spirit generates diversity, for in every age he causes new and varied charisms to blossom. Then he brings about unity: he joins together, gathers and restores harmony. Christians can block the unity in diversity desired by the Holy Spirit by focusing on their differences rather than on what they share. This happens when we want to separate, when we take sides and form parties, when we adopt rigid and airtight positions, when we become locked into our own ideas and ways of doing things, perhaps even thinking that we are better than others. When this happens, we choose the part over the whole, belonging to this or that group before belonging to the church and taking pride in being Christians of the ‘right’ or the ‘left’ before being on the side of Jesus. The other temptation is to seek unity without tolerating diversity. Here, unity becomes uniformity, where everyone has to do everything together and in the same way, always thinking alike. When the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples at Pentecost, the first gift the Spirit brought was forgiveness for their sins and the grace to forgive others. Here we see the beginning of the church, the glue that holds us together, the cement that binds the bricks of the house: forgiveness. Forgiveness preserves unity despite everything, prevents collapse and consolidates and strengthens. Forgiveness sets our hearts free and enables us to start afresh.

From today’s Gospel: Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. (Acts 2:3-4)Adult: When has the Holy Spirit given you the strength to act with courage?Child: When and where do you need the Holy Spirit’s help to speak out?
