What is VOIP?What is VOIP? Voice over IP is the basis for next
generation networks.
VOIP is efficient and scalable.
VOIP can be; over the public internet (e.g. Skype, Vonage
etc.) over a managed network (e.g. BT-21CN,
Carrier, Enterprise networks etc.)
Cost savings causing rapid transition from traditional PSTN to the NGN.
VOIP still needs access for traditional telephones (FXS) and the PSTN (FXO).

FXO and FXSFXO and FXS
FXS - Foreign eXchange Subscriber interface (the plug on the wall) delivers POTS service from the local phone company’s Central Office (CO) and is connected to subscriber equipment (telephones, modems, and fax machines). An FXS interface provides the following to a subscriber device: Dial Tone, Battery Current. Ring Voltage
FXO - Foreign eXchange Office is any device that, from the point of view of a telephone exchange, seems to be a regular telephone. As such, it is able to accept ring signals, go on-hook and off-hook, and send and receive voice signals. FXO is a DAA.
Confidential InformationConfidential Information 1111
Why is FXO important? Why is FXO important?
FXO provides a simple solution to these problems
Reliability PSTN remain functioning even during power failure conditions. Household VoIP hardware uses broadband modems and other
equipment powered by household electricity, which may be subject to outages.
Even with local power still available, the broadband carrier itself may experience outages as well.
Consumer network technologies such as cable and DSL often are not subject to the same restoration service levels as the PSTN.
Emergency calls IP systems makes it difficult to locate network users geographically. Emergency
calls, cannot easily be routed to a nearby call center, and are impossible on some VOIP systems.
Sometimes, VOIP systems may route emergency calls to a non-emergency phone line at the intended department.
In the event that a caller is unable to give an address, emergency services may be unable to locate them in any other way.
Power outage and network interruption prevent the ability to make emergency calls. Difficulty with sending faxes, modems and text telephones
Sending faxes, PoS modems and text telephony over VOIP is limited and may not even possible with some services

Competitors Disadvantage
Litelink requires second Codec to interface to PCM bus interfaces.
Max 3Kv isolation
Line powered DAA, exhibitsLimited signal range, Oscillation in low loop currents
Device is not scalable due to being an electro-optic solution.
More expensive than 1866/1966 solution
Requires special PAD requirements
Their Line powered DAA has weaknesses in long loops, EMI performance not as good as 1x66.
Solution is not single BOM, programmable global compliant
Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt
Litelink has a reputation for being expensive and CP Clare is difficult to work with.
Inflexible pricing of DAA due to lack of competition.
In competition with SLIC/ Manufacturers
Competitive Pitch
The 1x66 solves ALL of Litelink’s disadvantages.
TSC has the only single package DAA (73M1866)
Teridian breaks SiLabs monopoly on pricing and offers the only competitive alternative and the only single package DAA
