Regular clubs include “Mad for Books”, art, maths, music, technology, science, athletics and badminton. Daily practices and fixtures are open to all students in football, hockey, netball, rugby, cricket and basketball.

Weekly drama, dance and singing workshops involve participation and rehearsal for annual performances.

Personal EquipmentPARENTS ARE ASKED TO HELP THEIR CHILD

prepare for the next day’s school each evening.

Students are expected to come to school equipped with basic items: pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, colouring pencils, eraser, reading book, allocated e-reader, highlighter, a rough book, ruler, a dictionary of suitable size and a set of mathematical instruments e.g. compasses, protractor; and a scientific calculator (FX85). All of these items are vital for successful work and progress.

Lockers are available for all students.

Please note: We do not allow chewing gum, mobiles phones, electronic games; personal music equipment or aerosol sprays to be brought into the school.

Cafeteria SystemTHE SCHOOL SELLS BREAKFAST AND FOOD AT

morning break and lunchtime. It is served on a cafeteria basis. Students choose their food and pay the correct sums at cash tills. They eat formal meals in the refectory though some prefer to eat in the courtyard in good weather.

The cost of an average two course meal is £2.50. Students may bring sandwiches and eat them in the same area.

Healthy eating is encouraged and the new Food Standards are adhered to. Consequently, we do not

sell crisps, chocolate and fizzy drinks and chips are served only once a week.

In addition, Healthy Eating is promoted through PSHE lessons and Technology. Therefore, we advise parents also to talk to their children about this matter so that they are able to select balanced meals (possibly) for the first time, and that parents support us in their provision of packed lunches.

Parents on Income Support can complete a form on entry to the school to claim free meals.

Ashmole Parents & Friends Association (APFA) and The School GovernorsCONTACT WITH PARENTS AND THEIR SUPPORT

are considered essential to the success of the school. Parents automatically become members of the APFA. As well as raising large sums of money for the school, the Association provides opportunities for uniting staff and parents in a number of educational ventures.

The Parents’ Association has raised money for a canopy for the outside quad and servery area, Ashmole Radio Station, a Recording Studio and most recently Outdoor Table Tennis Tables.

The school governors work enthusiastically for Ashmole’s development and general well-being.

They support its functions and take an active interest in all aspects of school life.
