Eat What You Want Day If you can think of it, there is probably
a holiday for it. You can look them up
on the internet. There are fun, wacky,
and just plain bizarre holidays on
every day of the year. May 11th
happens to be Eat What Y ou Want Day.
We thought it would be interesting to
ask what Orchard Manor Residents
would eat if they could have anything
they wanted.
Edie Cifra – Real Italian food like my
mother used to make.
Clara Breese – A good beef roast &
apple pie made by my mother.
Alberta Hindman – Pancakes &
sausage with ketchup on the meat, like I
eat every day.
Ann Petrarco – Spaghetti, Macaroni &
Cheese, and bananas
John Koprivnikar – Food served with
friends.
Bill Giesler – My wife’s good cooking.
Mary Spiker – My mom’s wonderful
cooking.
Ann Bishop – Chicken, because I like
it and we had it growing up on the farm.
Vic Brown – Steak. It’s good for taste.
I’d love to have a steak.
Paula Kearns – Lobster dipped in
butter because it tastes so good. Plus
it’s a luxury item.
George Weil – A decadent gooey
cookie. It’s something I haven’t had for
a long time.
Jim Hohmann – An apple, because I like
them fresh from the Orchard.
Fred Keil – Ice cream, chocolate because
its my favorite.
Helen Martin – Homemade chicken
noodle soup with homemade noodles
because its good and made with love.
Cliff Benn – Steak, I love it!
Marge Stewart – Chocolate, because I’m
not supposed to eat it anymore.
Lucile Lucas – Ice cream, because I’m
not allowed to have it.
Mary Walter – Strawberries because
they are red, juicy, and easy to eat.
Lynette Dallas – I would have Pasta
Faggioli from Olive Garden and/or
strawberries. Strawberries are my
favorite. My sister gets me strawberry
cream pie from Eat N’ Park for my
birthday.
Shirley Cram – I want strawberry ice
cream.
Beverly Uber – I would enjoy a tossed
salad.
Doris Neiderhiser – Homemade dinner
rolls, my mom would make the best rolls.
Hilda Cayton – Chocolate cupcake with
marshmallow icing.
Mae Hart – I enjoy chicken but not a
whole lot of it and only the white meat.
Maybe with some potatoes and gravy on
the side and a fresh dinner roll.

Senior Snickers Doctor, Doctor
Two doctors and an HMO manager die and line up
together at the Pearly Gates. One doctor steps
forward and tells St. Peter, "As a pediatric surgeon, I
saved hundreds of children." St. Peter lets him enter.
The next doctor says, "As a psychiatrist, I helped
thousands of people live better lives." St. Peter tells
him to go ahead.
The last man says, "I was an HMO manager. I got
countless families cost-effective health care."
St. Peter replies, "You may enter. But," he adds,
"you can only stay for three days. After that, you can
go to hell."
A guy shows up late for work. The boss yells, "You
should've been here at 8:30!"
The guy replies, "Why? What happened at 8:30?"
A young man called directory assistance. "Hello,
operator, I would like the telephone number for Mary
Jones in Phoenix, Arizona."
"There are multiple listings for Mary Jones in
Phoenix," the operator replied. "Do you have a street
name?"
The young man hesitated, and then said, "Well,
most people call me Ice Man."
A duck walks into a drugstore and asks for a tube
of ChapStick. The cashier says to the duck, "That'll
be $1.49."
The duck replies, "Put it on my bill!"
Joe and Dave are hunting when Dave keels over.
Frantic, Joe dials 911 on his cell phone and blurts,
"My friend just dropped dead! What should I do?"
A soothing voice at the other end says, "Don't
worry, I can help. First, let's make sure he's really
dead."
After a brief silence, the operator hears a shot. Then
Joe comes back to the phone. "Okay," he says
nervously to the operator. "What do I do next?"
After a long career of being blasted into a net, the
human cannonball was tired. He told the circus owner
he was going to retire.
"But you can't!" protested the boss. "Where am I going
to find another man of your caliber?"
A bear walks into a bar and says, "I'd like a
beer ............ and some of those peanuts."
The bartender says, "Sure, but why the big paws?"
A grasshopper hops into a bar. The bartender says,
"You're quite a celebrity around here. We've even got a
drink named after you." The grasshopper says, "You've
got a drink named Steve?"
A guy walks into a bar and there's a horse serving
drinks. The horse asks, "What are you staring at?
Haven't you ever seen a horse tending bar before?" The
guy says, "It's not that. I just never thought the parrot
would sell the place."
A penguin walks into a bar, goes to the counter, and
asks the bartender, "Have you seen my brother?" The
bartender says, "I don't know. What does he look like?”
Proudly showing off his new apartment to a friend late
one night, the drunk led the way to the bedroom, where
there was a big brass gong.
"What's that brass gong for?" asked the friend.
"It's not a gong. It's a talking clock," the drunk replied.
"A talking clock? How's it work?"
"Watch this," said the drunk. He took a hammer, gave
the gong an ear-shattering pound and waited. Someone
on the other side of the wall screamed: "Hey, you jerk.
It's 3:00 in the morning!"
“Last night I played a blank tape at full blast. The mime
next door went nuts.” -- Steven Wright

National Skilled Nursing Care Week
Orchard Manor will be holding its annual
Mother’s Day Strawberry Shortcake Social on
Sunday, May 13th at 1:30 pm. Residents and their
guests will be served strawberry shortcake in
observance of their special day. Please come and
celebrate with us.
National Nursing Home Week is now National
Skilled Nursing Care Week. No matter what you
call it, we will be celebrating from May 13 thru
19. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Life’s
Stories.” We will be acknowledging our Residents
and staff with special events during the week.
It begins on Monday with an Animal Show by
All Things Wild. There will be special music
programs and other events throughout. A
complete list of activities for the week will be
posted outside the Hobby Room.
New Traffic Signs As most of you have noticed, our Maintenance Department has
placed new traffic signs on our lane. With the weather becoming
warmer, more Residents will be outside, as will Residents of
Fellowship Manor. Please observe these signs and keep your speed
down to the limit for everyone’s safety. While this is a private lane
and may seem empty, Emergency Vehicles come in and out and
accidents can still happen if you’re not paying attention We want
everyone to be safe!
Chinese Auction Donations One of the favorite events at our Annual
Family Picnic is the Chinese Auction. It is a
terrific fundraiser for our Residents. If you have
any items you would like to donate, please see
Megan Huston in Activities.
The Grove City Allied News and Sharon
Herald have tallied votes for their annual “Best of
the Best” awards. We are pleased to announce that
Orchard Manor has been named Best Nursing
Home and Best Personal Care Home. Thank you
to everyone who voted!
I woke up early in the
morning to go to a prayer
breakfast with five other men,
and I listen as I could hear the birds singing just before
sunrise. What a wonderful time this is for us too. We
can go outside and enjoy temperatures over freezing,
and we can see the beauty of the flowers that are
blooming.
At our church, Lakeview United Methodist in
Stoneboro there is a patch of Daffodils that make a
cross one the hill in the middle of the lawn, they
usually are bloomed by Easter, but this year they were
late because Easter came early, and winter would not
leave.
We have seen the return of the Robins and it will not
be long all the song birds will be back to the bird
feeders and new nest will appear in the strangest
places, this reminds me that it is time for new life. My
wife loves to plant flowers of different colors, and soon
it will be planting time again.
God created all things in earth and He said it was
good as we read the account of creation in Genesis,
even birds we hear singing early in the morning
welcoming in the sunrise.
I enjoy going out by Lake Wilhelm and watching for
eagles, they are such magnificent birds, and their sight
is 3 to 4 times better than ours as humans.
The eagles like to eat fish and will soar down from
the sky and catch them as they swim close to the
surface.
Jesus called His first disciples from fisherman and
told them they would be fishers of men. They would
now have to learn bring men and women into the
kingdom of God.
Jesus had 5000 men to sit on the grass and the
disciples took two fish and five buns of bread after
Jesus blessed them, and fed the whole crowd including
the women and children.
Isaiah 40:30-31 says, Even youths grow tired and
weary, and young men stumble and fall: but those
who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run
and not grow weary, they will walk and not be
faint.” This is a promise from God’s word for us
Chaplain’s Chatter Birds Singing and New Life by Pastor Earl Dykes
who have stumbled in our lives by making bad
decisions, but God is preparing a time when we
will be able to walk and not grow weary.
Easter is a new beginning for us who are
Christian, because we have come through the Lent
season asking God to renew us from within. God
has given us a new spring day and the light of
Christ is shining in each of us, that others would
see Jesus in us, in our actions, words, and deeds.
Sing your praises to God the King early in the
morning even as the birds sing and we sing because
of the Son Rise. So let the Son shine through you
today as you talk and meet with others and may
they find Jesus giving you strength in all that you
do. Sing a song of praise and fill the joy of the Lord
in your life. Amen
Pastor Earl
Your smile
Though your smile is gone forever,
and your hand I cannot touch,
I still have many memories
of the one I loved so much.
Your memory is my keepsake,
with which I’ll never part.
God has you in his keeping,
I have you in my heart.
