SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

The following symbols are used throughout thismanual as indicated in their description:

WARNING: To warn of hazards or unsafepractices that could result in severepersonal injury or death.

FOR SAFETY: To identify actions thatmust be followed for safe operation ofequipment.

This machine is designed solely for scrubbing dirtand dust in an indoor environment. Tennant doesnot recommend using this machine in any otherenvironment.

The following information signals potentiallydangerous conditions to the operator orequipment. Read this manual carefully. Knowwhen these conditions can exist. Locate all safetydevices on the machine. Then, take necessarysteps to train machine operating personnel.Report machine damage or faulty operationimmediately. Do not use the machine if it is not inproper operating condition.

WARNING: Batteries emit hydrogen gas.Explosion or fire can result. Keepsparks and open flame away. Keepcovers open when charging.

WARNING: Flammable materials cancause an explosion or fire. Do not useflammable materials in tank(s).

WARNING: Flammable materials orreactive metals can cause an explosionor fire. Do not pickup.

FOR SAFETY:

1. Do not operate machine:-- Unless trained and authorized.-- Unless operation manual is read andunderstood.

2. Before starting machine:-- Make sure all safety devices are inplace and operate properly.

3. When using machine:-- Go slow on inclines and slipperysurfaces.

4. Before leaving or servicing machine:-- Stop on level surface.-- Set parking brake (if equipped).-- Turn off machine and remove key.

5. When servicing machine:-- Avoid moving parts. Do not wear loosejackets, shirts, or sleeves whenworking on machine.

-- Block machine tires before jackingmachine up.

-- Jack machine up at designatedlocations only. Block machine up withjack stands.

-- Use hoist or jack that will support theweight of the machine.

-- Wear eye and ear protection whenusing pressurized air or water.

-- Disconnect battery connections beforeworking on machine.

-- Avoid contact with battery acid.-- Use Tennant supplied or equivalentreplacement parts.

6. When loading/unloading machineonto/off truck or trailer.-- Turn off machine.-- Use truck or trailer that will supportthe weight of the machine.

-- Use winch. Do not push the machineonto/off the truck or trailer unless theload height is 380 mm (15 in) or lessfrom the ground.

-- Set parking brake after machine isloading (option).

-- Block machine tires.-- Tie machine down to truck or trailer.

OPERATOR RESPONSIBILITY

- The operator’s responsibility is to take careof the daily maintenance and checkups ofthe machine to keep it in good workingcondition. The operator must inform theservice mechanic or supervisor when themaintenance intervals are required as statedin the MAINTENANCE section of thismanual.

- Read this manual carefully before operatingthis machine.

FOR SAFETY: Do not operate machine,unless operation manual is read andunderstood.

- Check the machine for shipping damage.Check to make sure machine is completeper shipping instructions.

- Keep your machine regularly maintained byfollowing the maintenance information in thismanual. We recommend taking advantage ofa regularly scheduled service contract fromyour TENNANT representative.

OPERATION OF CONTROLS

DIRECTIONAL PEDAL

The directional pedal controls the machine’sdirection of travel and propelling speed. Themachine’s speed is controlled by the amount ofpressure placed on the pedal; the farther the pedalis pressed, the faster the machine will travel.

When the machine is moving forward and thedirectional pedal is reversed, the machine willcoast for a short distance before changingdirection. Use the brake pedal to stop themachine.

Forward: Press the top of the directional pedalwith the upper part of your foot.

NOTE: A seat switch is located under the operatorseat. If there is no weight on the operator seat, themachine WILL NOT propel in any direction.

Reverse: Press the bottom of the directionalpedal with the heel of your foot.

When the directional pedal is placed into thereverse position, the rear squeegee willautomatically raise. After a short delay, thevacuum will stop.

Neutral: The machine will automatically return tothe Neutral position when you take your foot offthe directional pedal.

When the directional pedal returns to the neutralposition, the scrub brushes will stop and after ashort delay, the scrub head will raise.

BRAKE PEDAL

The brake pedal stops the machine.

Stop: Take your foot off the directional pedal andallow it return to the Neutral position. Step on thebrake pedal.

PARKING BRAKE PEDAL

The parking brake pedal sets the parking brake.

Set: While pressing the brake pedal as far as itwill go, set the parking brake by pressing theparking brake pedal with the toe portion of yourfoot.

FOR SAFETY: Before leaving orservicing machine, stop on levelsurface, set parking brake, turn offmachine, and remove key.

Release: Press the brake pedal to unlock theparking brake pedal.

PARKING BRAKE LIGHT (For machines serialnumber 7200 1781 and above)

The parking brake light comes on when theparking brake is set. The light will go out when theparking brake is released.

STEERING WHEEL

The steering wheel controls the machine’sdirection of travel.

Left: Turn the steering wheel to the left.

Right: Turn the steering wheel to the right.

KEY SWITCH

The key switch turns the machine’s power on andoff.

On: Turn the key fully clockwise and release it tothe on position.

Off: Turn the key to the left until it clicks.

POWER KILL SWITCH

The power shutdown switch immediately stops allpower to the machine.

Stop machine power: Press the power kill switch.

Restart machine power: Release the power killswitch by turning it to the right. Turn the keyswitch off, then turn the key fully clockwise andrelease it to the on position.

OPERATING LIGHTS SWITCH

The operating lights switch powers the headlightsand taillights on and off.

On: Press the top of the operating lights switch.

Off: Press the bottom of the operating lightsswitch.

HOURMETER

The hourmeter records the number of hours themachine has been operated. Check the hourmeterregularly; this information is used to determinewhen to perform routine machine maintenance.

OPERATOR SEAT

The operator seat is designed to be adjustedforward and backward.

Adjust: Move the lever toward the center of theseat, slide the seat backward or forward to thedesired position, and release the lever.

NOTE: A seat switch is located under the operatorseat. If there is no weight on the operator seat, themachine WILL NOT propel in any direction.

SEAT SUPPORT ARM

The seat support arm holds the seat up to allowaccess to the batteries. The support armautomatically engages when the seat is lifted allthe way up. Lower the seat support by slightlyraising it while pushing the support arm inward.

SOLUTION FLOW LEVER

The solution flow lever controls the amount ofsolution that flows to the floor while scrubbing.

Increase solution flow: Push the lever forward.

Decrease solution flow: Pull the lever backward.

NOTE: The machine is equipped with a solenoidvalve that automatically stops the solution flowwhen the directional pedal is in the neutral positionor when the scrub head is raised.

NOTE: When using the FaST system, the solutionflow lever is nonfunctional. The FaST system flowrate is pre--set.

SCRUBBING SWITCH

The scrubbing switch controls the scrub head,scrub brushes, squeegee, and vacuum fan. Thescrubbing switch is also used to set the scrubbrush pressure.

Start scrubbing: Press the scrubbing switch. Theindicator light will illuminate, the squeegee willlower, and the vacuum fan will start. Thescrubbing system and solution flow will start whenthe directional pedal is pressed and the machinebegins to move forward.

Stop scrubbing: Press the scrubbing switch. Thepressure indicator light will go out. The scrubbrushes stop, the scrub head will raise, and thesolution flow will stop. After a short delay, the rearsqueegee will automatically raise. After anotherdelay, the vacuum will stop.

The brush down pressure indicators display thepressure selection. The brush pressure switch hasfour positions. Brush pressure increases as theindicator light moves to the right across thedisplay. Travel speed and floor conditions willaffect the scrubbing performance. Under normalconditions, the brush pressure should be set in theone of the minimum settings. Set the brushpressure in one of the maximum settings to scruba heavily soiled floor.

Change brush pressure: Press and hold thescrubbing switch. The pressure indicator light willcycle through the four brush pressure settings.When the switch is pressed and held, the brushpressure will increase until it reaches themaximum setting. The pressure will then return tothe minimum setting. Release the scrubbingswitch when the desired setting is indicated on thedisplay.

NOTE: When the machine power is turned off, thebrush pressure will remain in the last setting used.

SQUEEGEE SWITCH

The squeegee switch controls the rear squeegeeand vacuum fan.

Lower squeegee and turn vacuum fan on: Pressthe switch. The indicator light will illuminate whenthe squeegee is lowered.

Raise squeegee and turn vacuum fan off: Pressthe switch. The indicator light will go out when thesqueegee is raised.

ES SWITCH

The ES (Extended Scrub) switch turns the solutionrecycling system on and off.

On: Press the switch.

Off: Press the switch.

NOTE: If the machine is powered off while in theES mode, it will remain in the ES mode whenthe machine is powered on.

FaST SWITCH

The FaST switch enables the FaST (FoamScrubbing Technology) system. When the FaSTsystem is enabled, it is turned on and off with thescrub switch.

On: Press the FaST switch. The indicator lightabove the switch will illuminate.

Off: Press the FaST switch. The indicator lightabove the switch will turn off.

NOTE: The FaST system will not start until thedirectional pedal is pressed.

NOTE: To use the machine for conventionalscrubbing, disable the FaST system by turning theFaST switch off.

NOTE: Do not enable the FaST system withconventional cleaning detergents in the solutiontank. Drain, raise and refill the solution tank withclear cool water only before operating the FaSTsystem. Conventional cleaning detergents/restorers may cause failure to the FaST solutionsystem.

RECOVERY TANK FULL INDICATOR

The recovery tank full indicator light will illuminatewhen the recovery tank is full.

NOTE: When the indicator illuminates, allscrubbing functions will shut off automatically.

BATTERY DISCHARGE INDICATOR

The battery discharge indicator displays thecharge level of the batteries while the machine isoperating.

When the batteries are fully charged, all fourindicator lights are lit. As the batteries discharge,the indicator lights will go out from right to left. Thebatteries should be recharged when the indicatoron the left flashes. When the indicator flashes, allscrubbing functions will shut off automatically.Drive the machine to the battery charging areaand charge the batteries immediately after thebattery discharge indicator begins to flash.

NOTE: The reading on the battery dischargeindicator may not be accurate when the machineis first powered on. Operate the machine for a fewminutes before reading the charge level of thebatteries.

NOTE: The battery discharge indicator will notstop flashing until the batteries have been fullycharged.

PRE--SWEEP SWITCH (OPTION) (Formachines serial number 7200 1000 and above)

The Pre--Sweep switch turns the Pre--Sweepoption on and off.

On: Press the top of the switch. The Pre--Sweepassembly will lower. The indicator light willilluminate and the Pre--Sweep assembly willbegin sweeping when the machine propelsforward.

DUST CONTROL SWITCH (OPTION) (Formachines serial number 7200 1000 and above)

The dust control switch turns the dust controloption on and off.

On: Press the top of the switch. The indicatorlight will illuminate and the dust control system willstart spraying when the machine propels forward.

NOTE: The dust control system will only operateif the Pre--Sweep option is on.

Off: Press the bottom of the switch. The indicatorlight will turn off. The dust control system will stopspraying.

SIDE BRUSH PEDALS (OPTION)

The side brush pedals raise and lower the sidebrush (option).

Lower brush: Press the lower pedal with the toeof your foot to disengage the pedal lock. Releasethe pedal to lower the side brush to the floor andbegin sweeping.

Raise brush: Press the top pedal all the waydown with the toe of your foot. The side brush willraise to the off position and stop sweeping.Release the pedal and the pedal will lockautomatically.

CIRCUIT BREAKERS

Circuit breakers are resetable electrical circuitprotection devices designed to stop the flow ofcurrent in the event of a circuit overload. Once acircuit breaker is tripped, reset it manually bypressing the reset button after the breaker hascooled down. Circuit breakers 1--10 are located onthe upper part of the operator console. Circuitbreaker 11 is located on the lower part of theoperator console.

NOTE: If the scrub system stops and the 4 brushindicator lights blink, CB8 or CB9 may need to bereset.

Circuit breaker 12 is located inside thePre--Sweept assembly (option).

If the overload that caused the circuit breaker totrip is still present, the circuit breaker will continueto stop current flow until the problem is corrected.

SQUEEGEE WHEEL CAMS

The squeegee wheel cams adjust the squeegeedeflection along the entire length of the squeegee.There are wheel cams at either end of thesqueegee.

Increase deflection: Turn the camscounter-clockwise.

Decrease deflection: Turn the cams clockwise.

SQUEEGEE LEVELING KNOB

The squeegee leveling knob adjusts the deflectionat the ends of the squeegee.

The squeegee leveling knob is located directlybehind the squeegee suction hose. DO NOTdisconnect the suction hose from the squeegeeframe when leveling the squeegee.

Increase end deflection: Turn the squeegeeleveling knob counter-clockwise to increase thedeflection at the end of the squeegees.

Decrease end deflection: Turn the squeegeeleveling knob clockwise to decrease the deflectionat the end of the squeegees.

SIDE SQUEEGEE DOWN PRESSURECONTROLS

HOW THE MACHINE WORKS

The following machine components work togetherto effectively clean dirty floors: solution tank, scrubbrushes, squeegee, vacuum fan, and recoverytank.

Water and detergent from the solution tank flow tothe floor through a solution valve. The brushesuse the detergent and water solution to scrub thefloor clean. As the machine propels forward, thesqueegee wipes the dirty solution from the floor.The suction created by the vacuum fan thendraws the dirty solution from the squeegee intothe recovery tank.

The directional pedal controls the speed anddirection of the machine. The brake pedal slowsand stops the machine.

When using the ES mode, the dirty solution in therecovery tank is filtered and returned to thesolution tank to be reused for extended scrubbing.

The two available scrub head types use disk orcylindrical brushes.

NOTE: The amount and type of soilage play animportant role in determining the type of brushesto be used. For specific recommendations, contactyour Tennant representative.

FaST SCRUBBING SYSTEM

Unlike conventional scrubbing, the FaST (FoamScrubbing Technology) system operates byinjecting the FaST PAK concentrate agent into thesystem with a small amount of water andcompressed air. This mixture creates a largevolume of expanded wet foam.

The expanded foam mixture is then dispersedonto the floor while the machine is scrubbing.When the squeegee picks up the mixture, thepatented foaming agent has collapsed and isrecovered into the recovery tank.

The FaST system can be used with all doublescrubbing and heavy duty scrubbing applications.

Using the FaST system can increase productivityby 30% by reducing your dump/fill cycle. It willalso reduce chemical usage and storage space.One FaST PAK of concentrated agent can scrubup to 1 million sq. ft.

NOTE: Do not enable the FaST system withconventional cleaning detergents in the solutiontank. Drain, rinse and refill the solution tank withclear cool water only before operating the FaSTsystem. Conventional cleaning detergents/restorers may cause failure to the FaST solutionsystem.

INSTALLING FaST PAK AGENT

NOTE: Machine must be equipped with the FaSTsystem.

1. Remove the perforated knock--outs from theFaST PAK Floor Cleaning Concentratecarton. Do not remove the bag from thecarton. Pull out the bag’s hose connector onthe bottom of the bag and remove the hosecap from the connector.

NOTE: The FaST PAK Floor CleaningConcentrate is specially designed for use withthe FaST system scrubbing application.NEVER use a substitute, machine damage willresult.

2. Empty the solution tank. See DRAININGAND CLEANING THE TANKS section of themanual.

3. Place the FaST PAK carton in the cartonholder located next to the seat. Connect thesupply hose to the FaST PAK bag.

NOTE: If any dried concentrate is visible on thesupply hose connector or the on the FaST PAKconnector, soak and clean with warm water.

4. Make sure to connect the supply hose ontothe hose storing plug when the supply hoseis not connected to the FaST PAK. This willprevent the FaST solution system fromdrying out and clogging up the hose.

5. The FaST solution system must be primedfor first time use only. To prime system,make sure the solution tank is empty, andoperate the machine in the FaST ScrubMode for 7--10 minutes.

6. When replacing an empty FaST PAK carton,allow the new FaST PAK detergent to gravityfeed into the system for several minutesprior to operating the FaST system. If thedetergent does not flow out of the FaSTPAK, simply squeeze and release the hoseseveral times. If the previous FaST PAK wasrun dry, it may take up to 7--10 minutes ofoperation to remove any air pockets in thesystem before you achieve maximumfoaming.

STARTING THE MACHINE

1. You must be in the operator’s seat with thedirectional pedal in neutral, and your foot onthe brake pedal or with the parking brakeset.

FOR SAFETY: When starting machine,keep foot on brake and directional pedalin neutral.

2. Turn the machine power on.

3. Release the machine parking brake.

4. Drive the machine to the area to be cleaned.

D Try to scrub as straight a path as possible.Avoid bumping into posts or scraping thesides of the machine. When scrubbing deadend aisles, start at the closed end of theaisle and scrub your way out. Overlap thescrub paths by 50 -- 75 mm (2 -- 3 in).

DOUBLE SCRUBBING

Double scrubbing is the process of making two ormore scrubbing passes over a heavily soiled area.The first scrubbing pass is made with rearsqueegee up to allow the solution to soak into thefloor.

Double scrubbing can be performed using theFaST SCRUBBING SYSTEM orCONVENTIONAL SCRUBBING methods.

Pre--sweep and side brush (option) machines:Leave the Pre--sweep and side brush (options) inthe raised position while double scrubbing.

Press the scrubbing switch to start the normalscrubbing operations.

Press the squeegee switch to raise the rearsqueegee and turn off the vacuum system.

Make a scrubbing pass over the heavily soiledarea with the rear squeegee raised. The solutiondispensed on the first scrubbing pass will remainon the floor and break down heavy soilage. Allowthe solution to remain on the floor for 15 to 20minutes. Make a second scrubbing pass with thesqueegee down while continuing to dispensesolution to the floor.

When you are finished scrubbing, or when therecovery tank full indicator illuminates, therecovery tank should be drained and cleaned. Thesolution tank can then be filled again for additionalscrubbing if necessary.

If you used the machine in ES mode, the solutiontank should also be drained and cleaned whenyou drain and clean the recovery tank.

Tank draining and cleaning procedures arecovered in the Use and Care Guide located nearthe operator seat.

7. ES mode: Lift the tank cover and flush outthe solution tank with clean water. Rinse thefilter at the bottom of the solution tank andthe sensor float near the top of the tank.

NOTE: DO NOT use steam to clean the tanks.Excessive heat can damage the tanks andcomponents.

8. ES mode: When the solution tank hascompletely drained, replace the drain hosecap on the end of the solution tank drainhose. Slide the hose assembly back into themachine and secure by tightening theretaining ring.

10. Remove the drain hose cap while holding thehose up, then slowly lower the drain hose tothe floor drain.

12. ES mode: Flush out the recovery tank withclean water. Rinse the ES filter at thebottom, and the sensor floats near the top ofthe tank.


13. When heavy deposits of sand and debriscollect on the bottom of the tank, flush outthe recovery tank by placing a hose into theside clean--out port.

14. Check the vacuum fan inlet filter daily. Cleaninlet filter with a damp cloth or hose whendirty. Allow filter to dry completely beforereplacing it into machine.

15. Lower the tank cover by raising it slightly,then push inward on the support arm.

16. Cylindrical scrub head: Remove the cotterpin that holds the side squeegee in place.Swing the squeegee away from the scrubhead.

17. Cylindrical scrub head: Remove and cleanthe debris trough. Place the trough back inthe scrub head when clean.

The rollout battery allows the operator a quick andeasy way to remove and replace the batteriesfrom the machine.

1. Drive the machine to a flat, dry surface.

2. Turn the machine power off and set theparking brake.


3. Lift the operator seat to access the batteries.The support arm automatically engageswhen the seat is lifted all the way up.

4. Unplug the machine connector from thebatteries.

5. Push the battery cart to the operators side ofthe machine. Line up the battery cart locksand the slots on the machine. Push thebattery cart foward.

6. Lock the battery cart to the machine bypulling the battery cart locks towards theoutside of the battery cart.

7. Set the battery cart floor lock by steppingdown on the left side of floor lock.

Raise battery cart rollers: With a wrench,loosen the jam nut and turn the boltclockwise. Then tighten the jam nuts.

9. Turn the knob on the machine’s battery stoparm counter--clockwise until it stops turning.

STEERING CASTER PIVOT BEARING

The steering caster bearing is located on thefloorplate. Lubricate with Lubriplate EMB grease(TENNANT part no. 01433--1) every 100 hours.

REAR SQUEEGEE CASTERS

The rear squeegee casters are located on theback side of the rear squeegee. The rearsqueegee casters each have two grease fittings.Lubricate the pivot point and caster bearing oneach squeegee caster with Lubriplate EMB grease(TENNANT part no. 01433--1) every 50 hours.

STEERING GEAR CHAIN

The steering gear chain is located directly abovethe front tire.

Lubricate with SAE 90 weight gear lubricant every200 hours of use.

BATTERIES

The batteries are designed to hold their power forlong periods of time. The lifetime of the batteries islimited to number of charges the batteries receive.To get the most life from the batteries, rechargethem immediately when the battery dischargeindicator begins to blink.

After every 200 hours of use check for loosebattery connections and clean the surface of thebatteries, including terminals and cable clamps,using a strong solution of baking soda and water.Brush the solution sparingly over the battery tops.Do not allow any baking soda solution to enter thebatteries. Use a wire brush to clean the terminalposts and the cable connectors. Wipe off allcleaning solution residue. After cleaning, apply acoating of clear battery post protectant to theterminals and the cable connectors. Keep the topsof the batteries clean and dry.

Objects made of metal can potentially short circuitthe batteries. Keep all metallic objects off thebatteries. Replace any worn or damaged wires.

Check the electrolyte level in each battery cellbefore and after charging, and after every 50hours of operation. Do not charge the batteriesunless the fluid is slightly above the battery plates.If needed, add just enough distilled water to coverthe plates. Never add acid to the batteries. Do notoverfill. Always keep the battery caps on, exceptwhen adding water or taking hydrometer readings.

Using a hydrometer, measure the specific gravityto determine the charge level and condition of thebatteries. If one or more of the battery cells testlower than the other battery cells (0.050 or more),the cell is damaged, shorted, or is near failure.Completely recharge the batteries, then retestthem.

WARNING: Batteries emit hydrogengas. Explosion or fire can result. Keepsparks and open flame away. Keepcovers open when charging.

7. Plug the battery charger into the wall outlet.

NOTE: If the red “ABNORMAL CYCLE” lamplights when the TENNANT charger is plugged intoa wall outlet, the charger cannot charge thebattery and there is something wrong with thebattery.

8. The TENNANT charger will startautomatically. When the batteries are fullycharged, the TENNANT charger willautomatically turn off.

9. After the charger has turned off, unplug thecharger from the wall outlet.

10. Unplug the charger connector from thebattery connector on the machine.

FOR SAFETY: When maintaining orservicing machine, avoid contact withbattery acid.

11. Connect the battery connector to themachine connector.

12. Check the electrolyte level in each batterycell after charging. If needed, add distilledwater to raise the electrolyte level to about12 mm (0.40 in) below the bottom of thesight tubes.

SELF--DIAGNOSTIC TEST

The machine is capable of running aself-diagnostic test of its electrical system andcomponents.


2. Press and hold the squeegee switch whileturning the machine power on. Continueholding the squeegee switch for fiveseconds, then release the switch.

3. While the self--diagnostic test is running, thebattery discharge indicator on the far rightwill flash. The machine systems will activateas follows:

D The brushes and squeegee raise.

D The vacuum fan starts and thesqueegee lowers. The squeegee raisesand the vacuum fan shuts off.

D The scrub head lowers and raises.

D The brushes turn on and off.

D The solution valve turns on and off.

D The ES pump turns on and off.

D If the machine has FaST, the FaSTsystem turns on and off.

D The vacuum fan starts and shuts off.

D The brushes turn on and off.

4. If the electrical system passes theself-diagnostic test, the indicator light abovethe squeegee switch will illuminate (green).

If the self-diagnostic test finds an error in thesystem, the recovery tank full indicator willilluminate (red).

To determine which errors were found, holddown the ES or FaST switch and recordwhich, if any, of the brush down pressureindicators illuminate. Repeat this operationwith the squeegee switch and the scrubbingswitch. Be sure to record which pressureindicators illuminate when each switch isheld down.

Contact service personnel with the errorcode data.

5. Turn off the self--diagnostic test by turning offthe machine power.

ELECTRIC MOTORS

The carbon brushes on the vacuum fan motorshould be inspected after every 500 hours ofmachine operation. The carbon brushes on thescrub brush motors and propelling motor shouldbe inspected after every 1000 hours of machineoperation.

PRE--SWEEP BRUSHES

The Pre--Sweep assembly is equipped with diskand cylindrical brushes. Check the brushes dailyfor wire or string tangled around the brush orbrush drive hub. Check the brushes daily fordamage and wear.

The side brush (option) is a disk brush. Check thebrush daily for wire or string tangled around thebrush or brush drive hub. Check the brush dailyfor damage and wear.

4. Lower the Pre--Sweep assembly in thechalked area. Slowly press down on thedirectional pedal until the Pre--Sweep brushbegins to sweep. Allow the machine tosweep in the same place for 15 to 20seconds.

NOTE: If chalk or other material is not available,allow the brush to spin on the floor for twominutes. A polish mark will remain on the floor.

5. Raise the Pre--Sweep assembly and movethe machine away from the chalked area.Turn the machine power off.

REPLACING THE CYLINDRICAL BRUSHES

1. Press the scrubbing switch. When the scrubhead is approximately 25 mm (1 in) from thefloor, turn the machine power off.



3. Remove the cotter pin that holds the sidesqueegee in place. Swing the squeegeeaway from the scrub head.

4. Push downward on the mounting spring andidler door until the top of the door releasesfrom the scrub head. Pull the bottom of thedoor outward, then pull the idler door andidler plug off the brush.

5. Pull the old brush out of the scrub head.

6. Position the brush with the double row endtowards you. Guide the new brush onto thedrive hub.

RECOVERY TANK

The recovery tank holds recovered solution. Cleanand drain the recovery tank after each use. Theoutside of the tank can be cleaned with vinylcleaner.

ES mode: Flush out the recovery tank with cleanwater. Rinse the filter and the sensor floats nearthe top of the tank.


Thoroughly rinse the sensor floats inside therecovery tank after each use.

Check the vacuum fan inlet filter daily. Clean inletfilter with a damp cloth or hose when dirty. Allowfilter to dry completely before replacing it intomachine.

SOLUTION TANK

The solution tank holds the cleaning solution.

If deposits form on the bottom of the tank, rinsethe tank and with a strong blast of warm water.

ES mode: The solution tank should be drainedand cleaned daily. Rinse the sensor float near thetop of the solution tank off with a hose after eachuse.

The solution tank contains one standard solutionfilter. If the filter becomes dirty, the solution flowwill be reduced. Check and clean this filterregularly.

FaST SUPPLY HOSE CONNECTOR

The FaST supply hose connector is located belowthe FaST PAK holder. Soak the connector in warmwater if detergent buildup is visible. When a FaSTPAK carton is not installed, store the supply hoseconnector on the storing plug to prevent the hosefrom clogging.

FaST SYSTEM FILTER SCREEN

The FaST system filter screen is located underthe machine. It filters the water from the solutiontank as it flows into the FaST system.

Remove the filter screen bowl and clean the filterscreen after every 50 hours of FaST scrubbing.Empty the solution tank before removing the filter.

FaST SYSTEM AIR PUMP FILTER

The FaST system air pump filter is located underthe machine on the air pump.

Remove and clean out the air filter withcompressed air after every 200 hours of FaSTscrubbing.

REAR SQUEEGEE ASSEMBLY

The squeegee assembly channels water into thevacuum fan suction. The front blade channels thewater, and the rear blade wipes the floor.

Check the squeegee blades for damage and weardaily. Rotate or replace either of the squeegeeblades if the leading edge is torn or worn half-waythrough the thickness of the blade.

The squeegee can be adjusted for leveling anddeflection. The deflection and leveling of thesqueegee blades should be checked daily, orwhen scrubbing a different type of floor.

The squeegee assembly can be removed from thesqueegee pivot to prevent damage duringtransport of the machine.

REMOVING THE REAR SQUEEGEEASSEMBLY

1. Lower the squeegee to approximately25 mm from the floor.

4. Remove both squeegee mounting knobs.

REPLACING THE REAR SQUEEGEEASSEMBLY

1. Make sure the squeegee pivot is lowered.

2. Place the squeegee under the squeegeepivot.

3. Push the squeegee frame onto thesqueegee pivot.

4. Tighten the mounting knobs.

5. Push the squeegee suction hose onto thesqueegee fitting.

LEVELING THE REAR SQUEEGEE

Leveling of the squeegee assures even contactthe length of the squeegee blade with the surfacebeing scrubbed. Make sure this adjustment isdone on an even, level floor.


2. Lower the squeegee.

3. Drive the machine forward a few feet, thenset the parking brake.

4. Look at the deflection of the squeegee overthe full length of the squeegee blade.

5. If the deflection is not the same over the fulllength of the blade, turn the squeegeeleveling knob to make adjustments.

The squeegee leveling knob is locateddirectly behind the squeegee suction hose.DO NOT disconnect the suction hose fromthe squeegee frame when levelingsqueegee.

Turn the squeegee leveling knobcounter-clockwise to increase the deflectionat the ends of the squeegee.

Turn the squeegee leveling knob clockwiseto decrease the deflection at the ends of thesqueegee blade.

6. Drive the machine forward with thesqueegee down to check the squeegeeblade deflection.

7. Readjust the squeegee blade deflection ifnecessary.

ADJUSTING REAR SQUEEGEE BLADEDEFLECTION

Deflection is the amount of curl the squeegeeblade has when the machine moves forward whilethe squeegee lowered to the floor. The bestdeflection is when the squeegee wipes the floorjust dry with a minimum amount of deflection.


2. Lower the squeegee.

3. Drive the machine forward, and look at thedeflection of the squeegee blade. Thecorrect amount of deflection is 12 mm(0.50 in) for scrubbing smooth floors and15 mm (0.62 in) for rough floors.


5. To adjust the amount of deflection, turn thesqueegee deflection cams clockwise todecrease the blade deflection.

Turn the squeegee deflection camscounter--clockwise to increase bladedeflection.

6. Drive the machine forward again to checkthe squeegee blade deflection.

7. Readjust the squeegee blade deflection ifnecessary.

On the left end of the squeegee is a guide rollerthat guides the squeegee blade end along a wall.Loosen the nut at the top of the guide roller andmove the roller in or out to adjust how close theend of the squeegee blade is to the wall. Thesqueegee blade end should be further away fromthe wall when the floor curves up into the wall.

REAR SQUEEGEE BLADES

The rear squeegee has two squeegee blades, thefront and rear. Each blade has four wiping edges.To use them all, start with one wiping edge. To usethe next wiping edge, rotate the blade end-for-end.To use the next wiping edge, rotate the top edgesdown, bottom edges up. To use the last edge,rotate the blade end-for-end. Rotate squeegeeblades when they become worn half--way throughthe thickness of the blade.

Replace damaged squeegee blades.

REPLACING OR ROTATING THE REARSQUEEGEE BLADE

1. Make sure the squeegee is raised off thefloor.



3. Loosen the two retainer knobs, one at eachend of the squeegee.

6. Insert the rotated or new squeegee bladeand then insert the retainer band.

7. Tighten the two retainer knobs until the endsof the front and rear squeegee blades touch.Do not over--tighten.

REPLACING OR ROTATING THE FRONTSQUEEGEE BLADE

1. Make sure the squeegee is raised off thefloor.

2. Turn the machine power off and set theparking brake if your machine has thisoption.


3. Remove the squeegee from the machine.See REMOVING THE REAR SQUEEGEEASSEMBLY.

4. Remove the rear squeegee blade andretainer. See REPLACING OR ROTATINGTHE REAR SQUEEGEE BLADE.

5. Loosen the two remaining knobs on top ofthe squeegee assembly.

6. Pull the retainer plate back and pull out thefront squeegee blade of the squeegee frame.

7. Insert the rotated or new squeegee blade inthe squeegee frame, lining up the slots in theblade with the tabs on the retainer plate.

8. Push the retainer plate forward. Tighten thetwo outside knobs on top of the squeegeeassembly.

9. Insert the rear squeegee blade and retainer.Tighten the two rear blade retainer knobsuntil the ends of the front and rear squeegeeblades touch. Do not over--tighten.

10. Install the squeegee assembly on thesqueegee pivot. See REPLACING THESQUEEGEE ASSEMBLY.

11. Adjust the squeegee blade leveling anddeflection as stated in LEVELING THEREAR SQUEEGEE and ADJUSTING REARSQUEEGEE BLADE DEFLECTION.

SIDE SQUEEGEE BLADES

The side squeegees control water spray andchannel water into the path of the rear squeegee.Check the side squeegees for damage and weardaily.

Replace the side squeegee blades if they becomedamaged or lose their shape. Replace thesqueegee deflectors if they become worn.

REPLACING SIDE SQUEEGEE BLADES

1. Raise the scrub head.



3. Remove the cotter pin, clevis pin, deflectorand the retainer bracket from the sidesqueegee and slide the squeegee out of theframe.

4. Slide a new squeegee blade into the frame.

5. Replace the retainer bracket, deflector,clevis pin, and cotter pin.

6. Repeat for the side squeegee on the otherside of the scrub head.

BELTS AND CHAINS

SCRUB BRUSH DRIVE BELTS

The two brush drive belts are located on thecylindrical brush scrub head. The belts drive thecylindrical brushes. Proper new belt tension is a 3mm (0.1 in) deflection from a force of 1.37 to 1.48kg (3.0 to 3.26 lb) at the belt midpoint.

When reusing an old belt, measure and record thebelt tension before removal, so that the belt canbe reinstalled at the same tension.

If the old belt tension was not recorded, therecommended force per old belts is1.03 to 1.14 kg (2.28 to 2.52 lb) with a deflectionof 3 mm (0.1 in).

Check the belt tension and wear every 100 hoursof operation.

PRE--SWEEP BRUSH MOTOR BELT (OPTION)

The Pre--Sweep brush motor belt is located insidethe Pre--Sweep assembly on the right hand side ofthe cylindrical brush. The belt drives the brushdrive belt sheave. Proper belt tension is a 3 mm(0.12 in) deflection from a force of 0.6 to 0.64 kg(1.3 to 1.4 lb) at the belt midpoint.


PRE--SWEEP BRUSH DRIVE BELT (OPTION)

The Pre--Sweep brush drive belt is located insidethe Pre--Sweep assembly on the right side of thecylindrical brush. The belt drives the cylindricalbrush. Proper belt tension is a 2 mm (.08 in)deflection from a force of 0.76 to 0.8 kg (1.7 to 1.8lb) at the belt midpoint.

STATIC DRAG CHAIN

The static drag chain prevents the buildup of staticelectricity in the machine. The chain is attached tothe rear squeegee mounting channel.

Make sure the chain is always touching the floor.

STEERING GEAR CHAIN

The steering gear chain is located directly abovethe front tire.

The steering gear chain tension should bechecked after the first 50 hours of operation andevery 500 hours thereafter. The proper deflectionshould be 3 to 6 mm (0.1 to 0.3 in) between thesteering sprocket and the idler sprocket when thesteering wheel is turned as far as it will go in eitherdirection.

TIRES

The machine has three tires: one in front, and twoin the rear of the machine.Torque the rear wheelnuts twice to 70 to 84 Nm (50 to 60 ft. lbs.) afterthe first 50 hours of operation, and every1000 hours of operation. The tires are solidrubber. No maintenance is required.

PUSHING, TOWING, AND TRANSPORTINGTHE MACHINE

PUSHING OR TOWING THE MACHINE

If the machine becomes disabled, it can bepushed or towed from the front or rear.

Only push or tow the machine for a very shortdistance and do not exceed 3.2 kp/h (2 mph). It isNOT intended to be pushed or towed for a longdistance or at a high speed.

ATTENTION! Do not push or towmachine for a long distance or damagemay occur to the propelling system.

TRANSPORTING THE MACHINE

1. Position the rear of the machine at theloading edge of the truck or trailer.

FOR SAFETY: Use truck or trailer thatwill support the weight of the machine.

NOTE: Empty the recovery and solution tanksbefore transporting the machine.

2. If the loading surface is not horizontal or ishigher than 380 mm (15 in) from the ground,use a winch to load machine.

If the loading surface is horizontal AND is380 mm (15 in) or less from the ground, themachine may be driven onto the truck ortrailer.

3. To winch the machine onto the truck ortrailer, attach the winching chains to the reartie down locations. The rear tie-downlocations are the holes in the sides of themachine frame near the rear bumper.

FOR SAFETY: When loading machineonto truck or trailer, use winch. Do notdrive the machine onto the truck ortrailer unless the loading surface ishorizontal AND is 380 mm (15 in) or lessfrom the ground.

4. Position the machine onto the truck or traileras far as possible. If the machine starts toveer off the centerline of the truck or trailer,stop and turn the steering wheel to centerthe machine.

5. Set the parking brake, lower the scrub headand block the machine tires. Tie down themachine to the truck or trailer beforetransporting.

The front tie-down locations are the holes inthe front side of the machine frame.

MACHINE JACKING

Empty the recovery solution tanks before jackingthe machine. Jack up the machine fromunderneath all four corners of the machine. Use ahoist or jack that will support the weight of themachine. Use a piece of wood between the jackand frame to distribute the machine weight load.

Always stop the machine on a flat level surfaceand block the tires before jacking the machine up.

FOR SAFETY: When servicing machine,jack machine up at designated locationsonly. Block machine up with jackstands.

STORAGE INFORMATION

The following steps should be taken when storingthe machine for extended periods of time.

1. Drain and clean the solution and recoverytanks.

ESt machines: Run clean water throughthe solution system and the ESt solutionpump.

2. Park the machine in a cool, dry area.

3. Remove the batteries, or charge them everythree months.

FREEZE PROTECTION

1. Be sure the solution tank is empty.

2. Pour 3.8 L (1 gal) of pre-mixedautomotive-type windshield washer solutioninto the solution tank.


4. Start the solution flow. Start the power wandsolution system and ESt system to circulatethe washer solution through the components.

5. The washer solution does not need to bedrained from the solution tank.

NOTE: Storage or transporing machines equippedwith FaST in freezing temperatures requiresspecial procedures. Check with a TENNANTrepresentative for advice.
