LOCATION RECCE

Production title: A deadly encounter Philistine ProductionsDirectors: Louis Lydon, Toon Works ProductionsLuis Sanchez, Chris Walsh To The Edge ProductionsProducers: Louis Lydon, 35 Brooklands ParkLuis Sanchez, Chris Walsh London SE3 9BN Address: Thomas Tallis School KidbrookPark Road London SE3 9PX

We will be creating the video installation in Thomas Tallis School in Kidbrook, South London. We chose this location because of its proximity to the storage of all of the equipment we will be using to create the video installation and because of it’s proximity to all of the cast and crew involved in the production.

Furthermore it benefits from the advantage of having first aiders on site and being only 5 miles from the Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup.

This building is structurally sound as it was only built recently in late 2011 and has received a wide array of safety checks. It’s also been verified that this school is stable and provides an even surface to mount a tripod on. There is a row of take always just around the corner from the school and there is a café on site so catering arrangements will be handled. We will not provide free food but food is very accessible.

I’m currently attending this school so I’m in close contact with the people who run the operations at the school and we have there signed permission to film here. This is a privately owned building that is regularly cleaned by cleaners so it’s very hygienic. We

will be filming all of the shots in the day time across June and July so there will be a lot of natural light to work in, however we will be filming inside so consistency in weather is not essential. The building is also air conditioned so the building will be well ventilated and the so cast and crew will be comfortable conditions to focus and work in. This building also has lots of fire exits.

This school has approximately 1,500 students currently attending the school which so there is a big possibility that students might get into shot, cause sound interference or walk by and interrupt filming by talking to the cast and crew too much. However we want to capture real life in this video art work as the video art is about how mundane the unexpected could come from so it helps the mood of everyday mundaneness if people are just getting on with normal life like they normally would.

We will be filming the footage for screen 1 in the hallway of second floor in block 1. In this scene the victim is only laying on the floor most of time which could be dangerous because there is likely to be a lot of people passing through this part of the building as it’s the main entrance to block 1. So this could cause a big safety hazard as a lot of people might trip over the victim. We therefore have to film this in lesson time when there is less likely to be a lot of people passing through this part of the building because they will all be in lesson. There is also a scene will we be filming here in which the murder hits the victim over the head with a bag which causes the victim to fall to the ground. Maybe there could be a hazard when the victim falls to the ground because there is a hard floor in this corridor with no padding. So we will have to cut before the victim hits the floor so we can still include it in the narrative but the actor doesn’t actually have to do it. We will be applying fake blood to the actor who plays the victim and the bag the murder hits him with so it’s important that hand washing facilities are just directly on the floor below from where this will be filmed as the blood will be applied on site. The screens filmed here are the only scenes for which we specifically don’t want people to get into shot because it looks odd if people are just walking by a dead body without even enquiring into it. So we will have to tell any students that walk by to stop and go another way.

We will be filming the screen 3 here in the sixth form common room. This common room doubles up, as a cafeteria so catering arrangements will be handled. There are big windows so there is a lot of natural light to work. There will be no dangerous stunts taking place in the scene being filmed here the actors are just sitting down talking so there is little chance of injury. There are also lots of plug sockets incase we need a power supply to run the camera. The windows also mean the room will be well ventilated as fresh air can come into the room. This however is an area where students normally converge together at lunch and break and when not in lessons so it’s unlikely this room will be completely empty when we film in it so there might be some sound interference in the scene, but the dialogue isn’t key to the narrative. We will however try to make sure the noise levels don’t get too high by telling people to be quiet. We will also try to film at the time when the least people are in there.

We will be filming the footage for screen 4 here. This room is mostly empty apart from lunch and break so when we film in lesson time there will not be any interference. There isn’t going to be any dangerous stunts in this scene but the actor who plays the murder will be sitting on a high chair pictured below the break bar on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. The actor might fall back and bang his head on the table behind him if he falls of the chair, which might cause severe neck damage. We will make sure the actor who is sitting down doesn’t swing on his chair. There is also a risk of the room being dirty because this is a place where a lot of people eat and drink and there might be some left over food packets or some food or spilled drink in the room. There are regular cleaners who come in during the day and after dismissal to clean the school so it should be clean and we are also going to film before break so people haven’t had the change to sit and eat in there yet.

We will be filming the footage for screen 5 on at the bottom of the stairs of between the first floor and the second floor of block 5. There is a chance that one of the actors might fall down the stairs but we think this is minimal as there are no fast stunts or fast action that at any point requires an actor to run on the stairs. We will film during lesson time so there isn’t any noise interference from other students. There might be some students who are wondering around out of lesson to go somewhere or are doing work in the hall way but the dialogue isn’t that essential to the video art and there is only a brief bit of dialogue.

We will be the footage for screen 2 in the room 1115, which is a media room in block 5. This room has a lot of plug sockets so if we lose battery power we can run the camera off the power from the mains. This room is a working class room and is regularly in use by students staying behind out of lesson to finish work so we have to make sure to schedule filming for a time when there is the least amount of students in the room. We want to have some students working in the room when we film because it would look odd if the actor was in an empty room by himself. However we don’t want to disrupt a lesson so we’ve scheduled to film when the older years are staying behind to finish work and no lesson is taking place. The only problem with this room is that for the medium long shot we want to achieve from a side angle shot with other students in the frame we need to put the camera next to the right hand side of the table but there is a cabinet against the wall so it restricts the space we have to mount the tripod. So only one person can be behind the camera, but we only need one person behind the camera.
