Just a few minutes North of Georgetown proper is the village of Glen Williams. This pretty village was originally called Williamsburg but when the post office was established in 1852, the name was changed to Glen Williams as there was already a Williamsburg in Canada. Glen Williams is a unique treasure. It’s one of the last remaining hamlets in Ontario – perhaps in Canada – and a village with character and a true sense of community. Life in Glen Williams is reminiscent of simpler days. Many of the buildings that stand today are originals. In the heart of the village, a former saw mill and electric power plant, both designated heritage buildings are now part of a complex that houses the Williams Mill Visual Arts Centre. Over 35 renowned artists produce exceptional work in glass, clay, jewelry, wood and many more mediums. The popular Copper Kettle Pub is housed in the communities historic Wheeler General Store built in 1852 and just behind the pub is the newly established and highly rated Glen Tavern which is affiliated with Scaramouche & Scaramouche Pasta Bar & Grill. A reservation is a must! Every July, Glen Williams plays host to the Halton Hill’s Canada Day celebrations, with a parade through the main street, activities in the Glen Williams Park and the annual Duck Race which takes place on the Credit River which flows through the village.
