Welcome to the 6th Annual Triangle Delta Waterfowl Banquet!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We are so pleased to have each of you with us tonight. Without your contributions, our efforts would accomplish little, but as you will see, with your contributions we have accomplished much and intend to accomplish much more.

Because of you, the 2016 Banquet was our most successful event to date. We raised over $120,000 (net) up from $100,000 in 2015, $80,000 in 2014, $40,000 in 2013 and $16,000 in 2012. Our chapter ranked #3 in the country in only our fifth year. With your help, we hope to continue this trend.

As most of you know, 25% of the money we raise comes back into the local community to help support conservation efforts and promote our hunting heritage. This year we used your contributions to host multiple youth hunts (with limits!!), a swan hunt for over 60 people, veteran hunts, andlifetime hunting license scholarships for kids. All events were incredibly successful. The veteran hunt served as a minor token of our appreciation for those men and women who serve our country. The youth hunt served as an opportunity to educate the next generation of hunters on the importance of ethics and conservation, and for those first time hunters, it was a gift that we hope will last a lifetime.

2016 was a great year, but we hope to make 2017 even better. We plan to continue hosting and growing the veteran and youth hunts, and encouraging local conservation efforts. We hope that each of you will feel free to contact us with any other ideas that you may have for promoting our hunting heritage locally.

God Bless,

The Committee

“When done under the rules of good sportsmanship, duck hunting is a culmination of art, skill and scientific endeavor. It is also an act of love, for who loves the birds more than the hunter?”

Triangle Delta Waterfowl Heritage Award Essay Contest

2016 marked a new era in Triangle Delta Waterfowl's short yet successful history, as we established its Triangle Delta Waterfowl Heritage Award. We are well-known for hosting military appreciation hunts, youth hunts, and raising money at our prize-packed banquets. Now we seek to expand

our impact in the community by offering annual awards to selected youth. The Heritage Award seeks to recognize local youth who have an uncanny appetite for the outdoors. All recipients will receive a North Carolina lifetime hunting and fishing license, and in some cases, the Chapter will present recipients with other gear to help meet the needs of the individual youth. The inaugural award was given to Max Canterbury of Wake Forest, North Carolina. Max is nine years old and an avid hunter and fisherman. His hunting and fishing partners are his dad, Mark Canterbury and uncle, Matt Canterbury. Max sets records for "one more casts" at the end of long days on the water. He just never wants to call it quits, and when they finally do leave, he is already planning the next trip. Max became interested in duck hunting a few years back. He went out more than ten times during the 2015-16 season, never carried a gun, and was begging to go again. During the 2016-17 season, Max was able to harvest his first duck ever using the Stoeger 3020

Compact 20 gauge shotgun given to him by Triangle Delta Waterfowl (see picture below). Stories like this would not be possible without YOUR generous contributions and support. In his essay about what he likes about duck hunting, Max says that he likes to paint his face, canoe, and watch the ducks circle as he calls, but "mostly [he] love[s] spending time with [his] uncle and dad." That's what it's all about! We pledge to continue our mission to encourage today's youth to get outdoors, go hunting, and preserve the traditions we hold so dear. We appreciate your continued support to that end! For more information about the Triangle Delta Waterfowl Heritage Award and how your youth can enter the 2017 Contest, please see the next page in this book.
