Spofa Cements Family: Your bread and butter in every dental practice. Materials which nicely balance performance, cost and ease of use,

aesthetic appeal, long–term effectiveness and safety.

Which cement to use and when There are currently 2 main brands of cements in the Spofa portfolio.

They differ in many aspects and this leaflet should help you to find the RIGHT ones for different indications.

This zinc oxide–eugenol cement from the SpofaDental portfolio is designed for temporary fillings, bases close to pulp and permanent root canal fillings with guttapercha points.

When your Dental practice comes to perform direct or indirect pulp sealing, root canal

therapy or pulp sealing after pulpectomy, the best choice is SpofaDental’s calcium

hydroxide paste Calxyd.

■ Excellent disinfective and healing properties■ Stimulates dentin formation■ Easily manipulated due to optimal consistency

Caryosan®

Kavitan® ConditionerSolution for treatment of dentin and enamel prior to application of glass–ionomer cement

An outstanding choice for removing smear layers and increasing adhesion of glass–ionomers or polycarboxylate cements to dentin and enamel. Conditioning the cavity removes any surface debris left after preparing the cavity. This also improves the surface energy, so glass ionomer will flow more smoothly

and adapt to the cavity floor and walls for optimum chemical adhesion. The polyacrylic acid in Kavitan Conditioner also prepares dentine and enamel for chemical adhesion without opening the dentine tubules, which rules out post–op sensitivity.

LC VarnishLight–cured protective varnish

LC Varnish creates a smooth and glossy surface on glass–ionomer fillings. Its application helps to create hard lamination which markedly increases the fracture restoration toughness as well as resistance to early wear and acids.

Zinc–phosphatesIn general, zinc–phosphate is the standard cement to measure against. It has the longest track record of use in dentistry and it is still commonly used. This reliable cost–effective solution has wide indications including luting permanent metal resto-rations, bases, cementation ofinlays, crowns, bridges and ortho-dontic appliances and occasion-ally temporary restorations.

Zinc –polycarboxylatesThis cement chemically adheres to tooth structure and metals, and has a higher tensile strength than classical zinc–phosphate with no post–op sensitivity.

Glass–ionomersNext generation following the zinc phosphate and zinc polycarboxylate cements with many advantages were glassionomer cements. As they bond chemically to dental hard tissues and release fluoride for a relatively long period, modern day applications of GICs have expanded. The desirable properties of glass ionomer cements make them useful materials in the restoration of carious lesions in low–stress areas such as smooth–surface and small anterior proximal cavities in primary teeth.

Glass–ionomer restorative cement

Chemically–cured glass–ionomer luting cement

Kavitan® Plus

Kavitan® CEM

Kavitan Plus is our best–selling Spofa glass–ionomer. This conventional, auto–curing restorative is just what you need when you’re looking for quality combined with economy. It provides good aesthetics with reasonable bond strength and is ideal for standard GIC procedures such as Class I, Class III and Class V sandwich techniques, liners and core build–ups.

Exceptional gel–based consistency and extraordinary adhesion to tooth structure make Kavitan CEM your number one choice when comes to luting. It’s the ideal material for cementing crowns and bridges, inlays and onlays onto a metal base. You will also appreciate its superior properties when creating orthodontic brackets and retainers.

■ Favourable setting time (2.5 min – 3 min)

■ Very high compressive strength and wear resistance

■ Reliable bond due to strong chemical adhesion to hard dental tissues

■ Long–term fluoride release■ High radioopacity■ Biocompatibility

Zinc–phosphate cement

Adhesor®

This traditional auto–cured restorative set the standards. It was one of the 1st cements on the Eastern European markets and it has proved its qualities since 1957. Even today being familiar, highly economic and very easy to use, it has remained majority of dentists’ first choice in cements. It’s just the material that suits your budget particularly for luting of metal–ceramic crowns and bridges as well as for the liners and temporary fillings.

■ Perfect mechanical properties■ On the market since 1957■ High reliability■ Convenient handling■ General usage

■ Perfect adhesion to the tooth structure■ Optimal film thickness■ Excellent fixation consistency■ High compressive strength■ Low solubility and disintegration■ Anti–caries effect due to long time

fluoride release■ Optimal biocompatibility
