INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 69-2325-01 WHVALVE1000 INLET SHUT-OFF VALVE Fig. 1. Accessory inlet shut-off valve. For detailed installation instructions, refer to the Bradford White Installation and Operation Manual included in the Accessory Module Package, WHACCPKG1005. CAUTION Shock Hazard. Disconnect power supply before connecting wiring to prevent electrical shock and equipment damage. On 24 V systems, never jumper the valve coil terminals, even temporarily. This may damage the controller. IMPORTANT For trouble-free operation of the product, good instal- lation practice should include use of a particulate fil- ter (preferably 5 micron), especially with well and surface water sources. Ensure filter cartridge is changed frequently enough to prevent clogging. Use of a water softener is recommended with hard water supplies. Put the VC actuator manual lever in the manual open (down) position to allow initial system filling with the actuator mounted. This may be done without electri- cal hook-up. Do not use solder flux and wetted materials which are petroleum-based or contain mineral oil or hydro- carbons. Clean threaded supply pipes of cutting oil and metal chips to avoid valve damage. When Installing This Product... 1. Read the Bradford White Installation and Operation Manual included in the Accessory Module Package, WHACCPKG1005, carefully. Failure to follow the man- ual could damage the product or cause a hazardous condition. 2. Installers must be a trained, experienced, licensed ser- vice technicians. 3. Complete all wiring connections to accessory module before plugging the transformer into a power outlet. 4. All plumbing and wiring must comply with all applicable national and local Codes, Ordinances and Regulations.

WHVALVE1000INLET SHUT-OFF VALVE

Fig. 1. Accessory inlet shut-off valve.

For detailed installation instructions, refer to the Bradford White Installation and Operation Manual included in the Accessory Module Package, WHACCPKG1005.

CAUTIONShock Hazard.Disconnect power supply before connecting wiring to prevent electrical shock and equipment damage.

On 24 V systems, never jumper the valve coil terminals, even temporarily. This may damage the controller.

IMPORTANTFor trouble-free operation of the product, good instal-lation practice should include use of a particulate fil-ter (preferably 5 micron), especially with well and surface water sources. Ensure filter cartridge is changed frequently enough to prevent clogging. Use of a water softener is recommended with hard water supplies.

Put the VC actuator manual lever in the manual open (down) position to allow initial system filling with the actuator mounted. This may be done without electri-cal hook-up.

Do not use solder flux and wetted materials which are petroleum-based or contain mineral oil or hydro-carbons. Clean threaded supply pipes of cutting oil and metal chips to avoid valve damage.

When Installing This Product...1. Read the Bradford White Installation and Operation

Manual included in the Accessory Module Package, WHACCPKG1005, carefully. Failure to follow the man-ual could damage the product or cause a hazardous condition.

2. Installers must be a trained, experienced, licensed ser-vice technicians.

3. Complete all wiring connections to accessory module before plugging the transformer into a power outlet.

4. All plumbing and wiring must comply with all applicable national and local Codes, Ordinances and Regulations.

PLUMBING

The valve may be plumbed in any angle, including vertical piping, but preferably not with the actuator below horizontal level of the body. Make sure there is enough room around the actuator for servicing or replacement. Allow 1 inch [25 mm] above actuator for removal and installation.

Fig. 4. Valve orientation.

Do not grip the actuator while making and tightening up plumbing connections. Use pipe wrench to hold valve across hexagonal or flat faces on the valve body, and bushings, if used. (Figure 4).

Fig. 5. Piping valve body.

If assembling valve train on a bench, take care not to deform body with vice. Do not place the raised “H” logo between the jaws of the vice. Excess jaw force can deform the body.

ACTUATOR INSTALLATION

Installation of the actuator does not require draining the system, provided the valve body and valve cartridge assembly remain in the pipeline. Wiring may be done either before or after the actuator is installed.

The actuator head is automatically latched to the valve. Align the coupling hole in the bottom of the actuator with the valve stem. Press the actuator down towards the body with moderate hand force and turn the actuator counter-clockwise by 1/8 turn (45 degrees) to line up the actuator with the piping. The latch will click when engaged. See Figure 5.

NOTE: The actuator can also be installed at right angles to the valve body but in this position the latch mecha-nism will not engage.

Fig. 6. Actuator removal from valve.

WIRING

CAUTIONShock Hazard.Disconnect power supply before connecting wiring to prevent electrical shock and equipment damage.

Installation of the actuator does not require draining the system, provided the valve body and valve cartridge assembly remain in the pipeline. Wiring may be done either before or after the actuator is installed. Valve may be operated electrically or opened manually using position indicator. Manual override cancels on first automatic operation, or by removing and re-attaching actuator.

Match color code of cable. See figures 6 and 7.
