~ PERSONAL INTEREST ~

Jumpstart Your Memoir Instructor: Andrea Cleghorn, Author, Journalist and Writing Coach

Andrea is a veteran journalist, non-fiction author, and writing coach. She has written her own memoir, and gently coached others as they write theirs. Whether the objective is to leave a legacy for the family or to put the story out into the broader world, it can be an enlightening, exciting, even healing experience for the writer. A memoir deals with a specific time period, stage of life, or series of events of the author's choosing. The beauty of the form is that the writer defines the parameters and how the story is told, though this freedom can mean it is often overwhelming to get started and keep going. Students will be shown ways to recognize themes and turn them into a story, develop a game plan, and avoid common pitfalls that impede progress. (min 3/max 12) Class held at 12 Mudge Way, Rm 151. (age 16+) Tuesdays, 10/16-11/6 (4 wks) 7:00-9:00pm Fee: $100

The Mandala Workshop includes a survey of Mandalas in other cultures and their purpose as well as identification of natural Mandalas. You will make your own Mandala through a guided meditation and creative visualization, accompanied by music, followed by discussion. "Mandala" comes from the classical Indian language of Sanskrit. Loosely translated, it means "circle,” A Mandala, however, is far more than a simple shape. It represents wholeness and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of life itself. The Mandala appears in all aspects of life - the celestial circles we call earth, sun, and moon, as well as conceptual circles of friends, family, and community. The process of discovering personal symbolism through practice of color and shape follows next. The Workshop takes place in a supportive environment accompanied by music. No art experience is needed to participate. Materials are provided, but please feel free to bring your own. Class held at 12 Mudge Way, Rm. 152. Biofield Tuning: Restoring Bodies to Balance Instructor: Julie Ramsdell, MS, RM

Sound healing is the oldest form of healing, practiced by medicine men and shamans throughout history. Biofield Tuning is a unique physics-based approach to health using the coherence of sound waves on and around the body to restore bodies to balance. Relief is found from a wide range of symptoms, including: stress, pain, anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, ADHD, depression, migraines, arthritis, irritability, fibromyalgia, adrenal fatigue, and general “emotional stuckness”. A certified Biofield Tuning practitioner, Julie will demonstrate ways to alleviate stress, reduce pain, increase calm, and treat a host of other issues quickly and efficiently. Biofield Tuning mini chair sessions will be offered. Workshop held at Fifth Chakra Energy, 200 The Great Rd, Suite 254A. Meditation for Transformation Instructor: Julie Ramsdell, MS, RM In addition to reducing stress, enhancing relationships, increasing productivity, improving sleep, and yes, increasing happiness(!), new research shows that Meditation actually reverses at a cellular level stress-related changes in genes linked to poor health, aging, and depression. Likewise, learning to trust your intuition and use it effectively is essential to making decisions to enhance your life. By connecting with your higher self during meditation, you become naturally attuned to your inner knowing, or "intuition". In this fun and supportive circle, we practice both and we remind our body how to heal and calm itself, which is the most powerful medicine available. The class will combine meditation, energy medicine, and intuition development. No special attire, previous experience, or equipment is needed. If you already meditate, joining a supportive meditation circle is very powerful and will enhance your practice. All levels of experience are warmly welcomed. Join us! Classes held at Fifth Chakra Energy, 200 The Great Rd. Suite 254A. Your Voice: Public Speaking for Kids (Grades 3-5) Instructor: Right Brain Curriculum

One of America’s top fears is public speaking. If that's so, this profound fear probably starts at an early age. In our Public Speaking class, we take the fear out of speaking before an audience by getting kids talking in front a supportive group about things in which they are interested. They write speeches on subjects of their choice and practice delivering them to the assembled students. As the kids practice in this low-pressure environment, they learn skills like standing up tall, using a loud voice and making eye contact. We also watch famous and not-so-famous public speakers and critique what is successful and unsuccessful in their deliveries. The class concludes with students creating a TV news broadcast in which they serve as anchors. Please send a snack. See a full curriculum preview: http://www.rightbraincurriculum.com/publicspeaking
