M720 / M720A1 / M768/ M888

American Ordnance LLC, operator of theIowa and Milan Army Ammunition Plants, produces the M720, M720A1, M768 and M888 High Explosive 60mm Mortar Cartridges for the U.S. Military and other State Department approved customers.

USE: The M720, M720A1, M768 and M888 High Explosive Cartridges are designed for use with the M224 60mm Mortar System. These cartridges are designed to be effective against personnel, bunker and light materiel targets.

DESCRIPTION: High fragmentation steel projectiles are loaded with either conventional or IM compliant explosive. The M720 and M888 feature conventional explosive and are similar with exception of fuzing The M720 is features thesimilar with exception of fuzing. The M720 is features the M734 Multi-Option Fuze, which can be set to function in Proximity, Near Surface Burst, Impact, or Delay mode. The M888 is equipped with the M935 Point Detonating Fuze, which functions in the Impact mode. Like the M720 the M720A1 also features the M734 Multi-Option Fuze, but incorporates PAX-21 an IM compliant explosive fill and includes changes in design and packaging to enhance overall IM performance. With exception of the fuzing, theoverall IM performance. With exception of the fuzing, the M768 is identical to the M720A1. In lieu of a multi-option fuze, the fuzing on the M768 is a basic point detonating fuze.
