ChoralNotes
There is a saying, “April showers bring May flowers”. We certainly had our share of showers in April, so we can look forward to many flow-ers. The Choir has a busy month ahead. On May 6, we are go-ing to Stratford, to help the Teutonia Choir celebrate their 50th anniversary. The con-cert will feature 6 choirs. A mass choir of all 6 choirs will also perform several songs. The event will take place in the afternoon, which means we will not get back home too late. The following Thursday, May 11, we will entertain the se-niors at Highgate, in Ancast-er. This we do every year, and it is always very much appreciated by the residents. On May 27, we have our own spring concert, at the Germania Club, featuring 3 guest choirs: Lorelei Os-hawa, Heidelberg-Rheingold St. Catharines, and Teutonia Stratford. It promises to be a very nice evening. Please come and join us if you can.
I have some very sad news to report. Mrs. Marianne Puppa, passed away in April. Mari-anne was a supporting mem-ber of the choir, and the wife of one of our choir members, Erich Puppa. Our condo-lences go out to him and all his family and friends. Erich has a birthday on May 31st. Other birthdays this month are: Ingrid Venohr and Hed-da Wagenblast. We wish all of you a Happy Birthday and many more years in good health.
Greetings, Jeanet Schaefer

Our 109th Stiftungsfest on April 5 was a success! 14 La-dies attended, and 3 guests (Ulli Venohr, Jennie Vance with Elis-abeth, and Kurt Schaible. Erna Melloh got a ride, was dropped off and picked up again.) It is always appreciated that Ulli Venohr (we all know he is the President of the Germania Club – still/again!!) takes the time to participate and praise the work of the Ladies. Elisabeth Kirch-hoefel, Erna Melloh, Brigitte Parzen and Sigrid Whelan were there, too, after intermittent absences. Chef Ray had prepared a de-licious meal (soup, breaded chicken breast with vegetables, and an assortment of yummy cakes for dessert). After that we were too full to have a meet-ing, so we just chatted and ex-changed memories. It would be interesting to find old minutes (maybe 80+ years back) to see what happened then. What did the Ladies wear in 1908?? Maybe I even have something – Helga Laqua gave me a bag full of stuff that I haven’t even looked through in detail.Annemarie Kiss had prepared a list of long-term members, as well as past Presidents. Maybe
we can include this list with a future monthly report; it’s in-teresting. Not this time though, I am past the deadline already again, sorry David.First Wednesday in May we have the election for the new board. From experience we usually do not have a quorum in May… so the elections might be in June. There is no escape, Ladies!! By then it’s Spring and Summer, longer evenings with daylight, no more icy roads or sidewalks.Since not all Ladies are also members of the Club, there were copies of the Germania Post at the Stiftungsfest. Please read the reports of the Choir, the Campers, Fischer und Jae-ger and the Skat Club. The Fischer und Jaeger have their Maifest on April 30 in the Park (Just like the Octoberfest in Munich that’s in September).Birthdays in May:Ingrid Venohr May 3If I forgot anything or anyone, or any suggestions, please feel free to give me a call or e-mail. By the time this is published, you hopefully had a Happy Easter and the World is still standing.
