In this class, we will learn how to make quality decisions in an environment characterized by major uncertainties and multiple objectives. It will provide the fundamental framework and approach for the major decisions we will make in our lives. We will also discover many errors people commonly make in decision-making and then learn how to overcome these errors. The learning objectives of the course are: 1) Explain the prescriptive side of the decision-making process, 2) Explain how to structure and solve decision-making problems using different decision-making technologies (techniques?), 3) Explain how to utilize decision analysis software programs (Precision Tree and Expert Choice) to solve business problems, 4) Explain the inherent problems of human judgment in the decision-making situations and how to overcome them, 5) Learn how to present and communicate the analysis results and insight to clients.

Development & Social Change in Korea (English and Korean)

This course examines the main features of social change attendant upon the rapid economic development in contemporary Korea. Aided by sociological theories of modernization and development, advanced chiefly from the East Asian perspective, the course focuses on the distinctive characteristics of the miraculous economic performance and major social change in Korea within the broader context of globalization. The course tries to account for the rapid economic growth by means of non-economic factors at work. Then, subsequent changes in society due to the economic development are identified and explained, in the major aspects of social, political and cultural life of the Korean people, including population, family, human relations, education, social stratification, civil society, and politics.

Strategic Leadership (English and Korean)

This course examines the role of leadership in today’s rapidly changing and global business environment. Students will learn basic concepts and theories of leadership, analyze real-world case studies of leadership, and develop leadership skills and mindset for improving the performance of their organizations. Some of the topics covered in class include, vision and strategic thinking, problem-solving and communication, power and influence, collaboration and trust, change management and crisis leadership. This course will also address leadership development issues through case studies, individual reflection, experience sharing and action learning.

Strategic Management of Public Organizations (English and Korean)

Public managers are increasingly asked to take on a myriad of managerial responsibilities – recognizing the needs of a complex authorizing environment in which public opinion influences elected officials, developing sound policies and decision making processes, implementing policy in a manner that delivers effective service, managing external image and media content – all measured against ethical and long term value-adding considerations. Effective leadership skill – balancing the managerial, political, policy and performance aspects of organizational life – is in demand more than ever, and strategic approaches in applying such skills become necessary at every level in order to keep up with changes and to make a difference in the public realm.
