Queenstown is probably the premier holiday resort in the

South Island, Queenstown is a

favourite with both locals and

international visitors. It is located on the

shore of Lake Wakatipu, and surrounded by

mountains which are popular for skiing. The population is

around 5000. 

Picton is situated at the top of the South Island.

The Picton settlment was laid out on the site of Qaitohi pa in 1948.

It's current population is around 4000.

Since the year 700, the Polynesians and Maori lived in New Zealand.

They had their own culture and religion.
