Selecting and Constructing photography for the music magazine
I looked at a series of websites to find appropriate professional photography that I could use in my magazine. This is because: I need to have lots of options for what to use in the
magazine. I need to have plenty of variety that helps to represent
my music scene accurately.
I like this one because of the expression in the subject’s face. It’s not serious and gets across that the band he’s in is ‘fun’
It could be used for an inset photo, a pop-up figure. If photoshopped, could also be a cover.
It would influence the design of the page by making sure the colour scheme fits around it, for example you could make a box red or black to match his clothes.
It might have been created by a music photographer.
I like this one because it gives you the feeling of being at the show, the bright lights in the background give a very realistic visual effect.
It could be used for an inset or a double page feature of the band, or alternatively a secondary lead.
It would influence the design of the page by
It might have been created by basing the rest of the features on the page around this main photo.
I like this one because of the fact it’s totally not serious- it gives off the vibe that the band are up for having fun.
It could be used for a cover photo, although perhaps it would be more suited to a cover if it was in colour. Maybe a secondary lead or as an inset.
It would influence the design of the page by possibly having all the other photos in monochrome.
It might have been created by a professional photographer, and an editor.
I like this one because of the facial expression in the subject, it gets across the aggression in the band, and their live show.
It could be used for an inset photo, or a secondary lead.
It would influence the design of the page by possibly making the designer include other photos of the same show.
It might have been created by a professional photographer.
I like this one because it’s really elaborate and unique looking. The indirect mode of address adds to the mysterious vibe the water gives off.
It could be used for a magazine cover, a double page feature, contents insets, a feature about the band.
It would influence the design of the page by the way the band is in water- if it was a double page spread the whole thing could be ‘water’ themed.
It might have been created by a professional photographer and artist.
I like this one because it captures the intensity and energy of the band’s live show.
It could be used for a double page feature, an inset photo, or a secondary lead.
It would influence the design of the page by making sure everything is in proportion so the picture doesn’t look to big or small
It might have been created by- it was taken by the photographer in the copyright watermark.
I like this one because of the confrontational expressions in the band’s face, and the way the background has been chosen to look similar to the band’s clothes.
It could be used for a cover photo, as it has the classic ‘confrontational’ expressions. Alternatively an inset or secondary lead.
It would influence the design of the page by fitting the colour scheme to the colours in the photo, or contrasting them
It might have been created by a band photographer working for a magazine for a cover shoot.
I like this one because it has the crowd in the shot and shows how ‘epic’ the show is.
It could be used for a double page feature or a live review, or possibly a secondary lead.
It would influence the design of the page by maybe matching the colour scheme to the colours in the photo.
It might have been created by someone at the show who was taking photos for a company or magazine.
Here are some more photos and graphics that might help me to establish the overall look of my magazine…
