Program oers break for parents of special needs childrenBy Reta Mills
JB Charleston EFMP CoordinatorCould you use a break? Easter Seals of South Carolina and
the Exceptional Family Member Program have teamed up to provide a respite program for active Air Force and Navy
parents. We understand that caring for a child with special needs can be overwhelming and we are here to
help! For military families who are responsible for the regular care of persons with special needs, the EFPM Respite Care Program provides a temporary rest period for parents. The Air Force and Navy put
respite care in place to give eligible Families, especially with deployments, and sometimes
extenuating circumstances, the opportunity to receive a much needed break. JB Charleston
families can apply by contacting our Easter Seals Respite Care partner Kate Gilleran at
(843) 670-8241 or email her at [email protected].
Eligibility for the respite program is based on EFMP enrollment and the medical or
educational condition of the family member requiring care. Qualifying families are eligible to receive free hours of funded EFMP respite
care monthly for each certified family member and their siblings! Call the EFMP office at
(843) 963-4411 for more details or to apply.
