From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

5th Sunday in Ordinary Time: “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?’ ‘Here I am,’ I said, ‘send me!’” (Isaiah 6:8). Every day – in little ways and in big ways – God asks, “Whom shall I send?” Whether it is someone to take on a new ministry or just someone to open a door for a stranger, God constantly provides doors of opportunity. The next time you hear God calling, have the courage to walk through the door and say “Here I am, Lord.”

Isaiah 6:1-2, 3-8: Isaiah is allowed to remain in God ’s presence. His lips were cleansed by a burning coal, and he is purified. The image recalls the purifying effects of fire, which burns away impurities from metal or clay. But let there be no mistake - being made worthy to serve God is not an easy process. When Isaiah’s sins have been removed and he is cleansed, he is able to respond to the Lord’s call.

1 Corinthians 15:1-11: Paul’s writings are the oldest Christian documents we have, and here he identifies traditions that were passed on to him, which he shares with the Corinthians. This passage contains the central teaching of Christianity: Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. This is the gospel in a nutshell, to which we assent every time we offer our “Amen” in the Christian assembly. Like Isaiah in the first reading, Paul is painfully aware of his own sinfulness.

Luke 5:1-11: The author of the gospel presents Peter sympathetically, and Jesus ’ call of Peter is reminiscent of Isaiah’s call in the first reading and Paul’s call in the second. We are all called to lives of discipleship. Following Jesus requires recognizing our own sinfulness, but it also involves trusting in God’s goodness and ability to use us as instruments of divine action.

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week.

FISH WITH ME (Ken Canedo)

1. Jesus saw them fishing by the shore of Galilee, Casting out their nets into the sea. Simon Peter, Andrew and the sons of Zebedee, Waiting in the boats so patiently. And Jesus said, (REF)

REF: ‘Oh, come and follow me. Oh, leave behind your nets, I call you. Oh, come and fish with me, And your life will never be the same again.”

2. A rich young person came to Jesus looking for advice. “How can I obtain eternal life?” Jesus told him, “Honor the commandments of the Lord. Then sell off all your riches for the poor.” And Jesus said,

REF: Those who save their lives will lose them. Those who lose their lives will save them. For what profit does it show if you gain the world But lose your soul, your soul?

3. “If you want to follow me, deny your very self. Take up your cross and walk the walk with me. This might seem a hardship, an impossibility, But nothing is impossible with God.” And Jesus said,

REF: ‘Oh, come and follow me. Oh, leave behind your nets, I call you. Oh, come and fish with me, And your life will never be the same again.”

HANGARTNERS WORK IN MALAWI, AFRICA: Please pray for Thomas & Elisabeth Hangartner, who are in Malawi supervising the renovation of the Kaseye Community Hospital and training of hospital staff in the use of the x-ray equipment installed by the Wright State University Students in past years. They are also overseeing the scholarship program they established to help needy students. If you wish to donate to the non-profit organization the Hangartners founded to help raise funds for these projects, make checks payable to "Change and Be Changed" care of Chris Sitko or Jack Simpson. Another way to financially assist the Malawi Projects is by renting their condo in Switzerland (see poster in the vestibule). They are expected back in March and will lead another delegation of WSU students to install more equipment in the hospital in May. Thanks to those of you who have supported these Malawi projects.

2016 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL (CMA): You should know...each year, thousands of people in hospitals in the Archdiocese are served by CMA-supported hospital ministries. As the population is aging, more assistance is needed. CMA supports ministries at University of Cincinnati, Sinclair Community College, Miami University, Wright State University, and a smaller presence at Wittenberg University. CMA sponsored chaplaincies are active at Lebanon, Warren, and Dayton correctional facilities. Thanks to all those who have already responded generously to the Catholic Ministries Appeal on Commitment Weekend a couple of weekends ago. You are helping our parish work toward its goal and joining with other parishes in our archdiocese who want to serve those in need. Thank you for sharing your blessings with others. Envelopes are available on the table in the vestibule for your donations. The address for return of your pledge or donation is: Catholic Ministries Appeal, 100 E. Eighth Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202. Thank you!

LENTEN REMINDERS – FAST & ABSTINENCE: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of abstinence from meat and also days of fast, that is, limited to a single full meal. The other Fridays of the season of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. The law of abstinence binds all Catholics 14 years and older. The law of fasting binds all Catholics from their 18th birthday until their 59th birthday (canons 97 & 1252). With regard to Good Friday, the teaching of the Second Vatican Council should be recalled. People should seek to do more rather than less. Fast and abstinence on the days prescribed should be considered a minimum response to the Lord’s call to penance and conversion.
