SEASON LONG LAWN CARE TIPSLAWN CARE TIPS

Check your soil pH with a test kit. Most grasses prefer a pH between 6-7. If your pH is below this range use Pennington Fast Acting Lime at the recommended rate. Fast Acting Lime can be applied in the spring or fall and works quickly to adjust your lawns pH to the optimum growing conditions.Note: All Pennington Signature Series fertilizers are phosphorus free helping protect our water sources.

MID WINTER TO EARLY SPRING

For Cool Season Grasses (Fescue, Bluegrass, Ryegrass), begin lawn care in January, February, or early March by applying Pennington Signature Series Crabgrass Pre-venter or Crabgrass Preventer plus fertilizer for pre and early post emergent control of grassy and broadleaf weeds.

For Warm Season Grasses (Bermuda, Zoysia, Centipede, St. Augustine & Bahia), begin lawn care in January, Febru-ary, or early March by applying Pennington Signature Series Crabgrass Preventer for pre and early post emergent control of grassy and broadleaf weeds.

Pennington Signature Series Crabgrass Preventer is a pre-emergent, which means that it must be applied before the crabgrass has a chance to germinate. A pre-emergent will prevent the germination of the seed. Once it is visible, it is too late to apply a pre-emergent. A pre-emergent will not kill crabgrass that is already up and growing. For best results, use Pennington Signature

Series Crabgrass Preventer for annual control of crab-grass, foxtail, spurge, poa annua, dandelions and other annual grassy and broadleaf weeds.

DO NOT apply a pre-emergent at the same time you seed or overseed your lawn. The preventer will prevent

the grass seed from germinating. You may seed 8 weeks before or after Pennington Signature Series® Crabgrass

Preventer has been used on your lawn.

MID TO LATE SPRING

Pennington Signature Series Weed & Feed 28-0-4 will kill actively growing dandelions and over 150 other broad-leaf weeds while feeding your lawn with slow-release nitrogen for up to 4 months! Pennington Signature Series

Weed & Feed 28-0-4 works by sticking to the weed leaf, therefore the product should be applied to WET grass (either early in the morning when the dew is present on grass or just after rain or a sprinkler may be used to wet the lawn). DO NOT water the lawn for at least 24-48 hours after applying this product. DO NOT apply this product to newly seeded lawns. Be careful to keep dust from drifting onto flowers, vegetables, shrubs and ornamen-tals. DO NOT apply to overexposed roots of trees and ornamentals.

For Centipede and St. Augustine grasses, use a specially formulated product to control weeds, such as Penning-

ton Signature Series Centipede & St. Augustine Weed &

Feed 17-0-6. Be sure to apply this product as instructed on the package.

Pennington Signature Series Lawn Fertilizer 29-0-5 may be applied to all grasses. Lawn fertilizers should be ap-plied to actively growing grasses and should not be used on dormant warm season grasses until the grass begins to green up naturally.

If seeding, overseeding, sprigging or sodding your lawn, be sure to use Pennington Signature Series Starter Fertil-

izer 18-24-6 to help build a strong root system for the new grass.

SUMMER

Pennington Signature Series Lawn Fertilizer 29-0-5 may be applied to all grasses during the summer to help darken the green color of your grass.

To control insects in your lawn use Maxide Insect Killer.

Maxide kills most common lawn insects with its profes-sional strength formula and is easy to apply with any spreader.

FALL

Choose Pennington Signature Series Lawn Winterizer

22-0-14 or Winterizer Weed & Feed. Winterizer supplies grasses with nitrogen and potash which helps the chloro-phyll process and aids in preventing cold weather stress.

If seeding, overseeding, sprigging or sodding your lawn, be sure to use Pennington Signature Series Starter Fertil-

izer 18-24-6 to help build a strong root system for the new grass. Cool Season grasses and Centipede may need crabgrass preventer to warrant against Poa Annua, barn-yard grass and annual bluegrass from germinating in the fall. Be sure to use Pennington Signature Series Crabgrass

Preventer for control against these unwanted weeds.
