MUSHROOM SAUCEHeat 1 Tbsp (15ml) olive or

canola oil. Fry 1 packet (150g) shimeji mushrooms and

1 packet (250g) portabellini or button mushrooms. Season. Add 4 Tsp (20ml) brandy or

water and 1 Tbsp (15ml) Bovril. Fry for a minute. Stir in ½ cup (125ml) cream. Simmer for a

minute. Serve warm.

STEAKSPICANHA

Cut from the top of the rump, this crowd-pleaser is covered with a

fat cap, so it's always deliciously juicy and packed with flavour.

RIBEYE Due mostly to its fat-marbled

meat, this is one of the tastiest cuts. Choose ribeye on the bone for extra

flavour and that 'pro chef' look.

PORTERHOUSE It's everybody’s favourite. Sizzle over

hot coals, then turn and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side (for medium rare).

Danie Steytler lived and breathed winemaking since his childhood – no wonder he took the reins from his father as a fourth-generation winemaker at Kaapzicht in Stellenbosch’s Bottelary Hills.

A keen rugby player as a student, he travelled the world and made wine in New Zealand, France, Germany, Greece, and Italy. Along the way, he picked up a trick or two in the kitchen as well, and now cooks gourmet feasts for his wife, Carin, and their two children. That’s not where his talents end – when he’s not picking the best grapes for his latest blends, he also carves new pieces of furniture by hand.

Danie is super passionate about Pinotage and Chenin Blanc – his old-vines Chenin Blanc was voted Best White Wine in the world by the wine magazine Decanter in 2017. In fact, he loves the grape so much, he named his Jack Russell Chenin!

Danie’s favourite wine is the Kaapzicht Pinotage, which he says flaunts the finesse of South Africa’s only truly homegrown varietal to the world.
