5A Competency Day
October 16th has been designated as the 5A Com-
petency day. All staff is expected to participate.
Competency is expected to take no more than 1
hour. If you are scheduled off, you will be paid for
your time. Please see Jessica or a unit clinician
with any questions.
As healthcare care workers, it is our responsibility to
promote health and wellness for our patients, our co-
workers, and our community members. All EMS staff,
hospital staff, patients and visitors are strongly encour-
aged to use only the approved designated smoking areas
– located in the back of Visitor Lot C/D/E ( near the
reservoir) and on the corner of St Margaret Drive at the
service driveway ( below the ED). All staff and visitors
are encouraged to keep the grounds clean by using the
trash receptacles placed throughout the campus. Our
security staff will continue to monitor and report compli-
ance with this policy throughout the campus. Thank you
for you cooperation and support of a healthy community

5A Patient and Families Sentiments
“Amazing Staff!!”
“Felt like I was the only patient here, they were so
fast to respond”
“All your staff is kind and courteous.”
“Tara’s smile made my night.”
“Tammy is a fantastic nurse. She took care of any-
thing I needed quickly.”
“Can you clone Bobbie? She is fantastic!”
Smoke-Free Campus
Patient Safety Fair
Hospital staff will have an opportunity to test
their ability to identify a variety of safety errors in
a patient room setting. Presented by Theater in the
Round, the Little Room of Horrors will be set up
in the Nursing Education Classroom on Tuesday,
Oct. 30, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Wednesday,
Oct. 31, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Staff who complete
the task and evaluation will earn 0.5 CEs
The Thanksgiving schedule is currently out for
staff to complete. Bobbie will be taking the
schedule to work on this Monday October 8th.
Please complete your schedule timely.
All staff on 5A will “adopt” a room on the unit.
During their worked shift, staff are expected to
go to their adopted room and make sure the
room is in neat order (floor clean, tray table
cleaned off, window seal tidy, etc). If the room
is not appropriate, the staff is to notify the
nurse, environmental services, NA etc to the
needs of the unit. This process will help impact
a minimal of two areas, environment of care for
our patients as well as peer accountability.
Studies have shown this method to not only
improve patient satisfaction but also improving
peer accountability. (Decreased the room clut-
ter and staff frustration regarding rooms not
being readied up for the next shift of staff)
