Barrett’s Bits

For some years I was a mem-

ber of the Rotary Club. Membership

always carries some obligations. A

Rotarian is expected to attend every

weekly meeting and, if unable to at-

tend his or her own club, to attend

another Rotary Club to make up the

absence. We were also expected to

participate in the charitable activities

of the Club by offering both or time

and our contributions. I really enjoyed

the fellowship of the weekly meetings

and giving my time and money to the

many worthy causes of the Rotary.

Not to mention that I learned a lot

from the various speakers who were

with us each week.

Membership in the church is

somewhat like that as well. When we

become members of a local United

Methodist Church we take on respon-

sibilities. We become partners in the

work of our church to make disciples

of Jesus Christ for the transformation

of the world. At a minimum that part-

nership requires our prayers, presence,

gifts, service, and witness.

We commit to support the

church through praying for its leaders

and work, by attending worship unless

prevented by unusual circumstances,

with our tithes and offerings, through

our service in the ministries of the

congregation, and through our witness

in the community both in words and

actions.

If you want to join St. Mark

in our disciple making ministry we

invite you to become a member. You

may join by transfer of membership

from any other United Methodist

Church or any other denomination. If

you have not been a member of an-

other church you may join us by pro-

fessing faith in Jesus Christ and re-

ceiving the Sacrament of Baptism. If

you would like to know more please

contact either me or Pastor Ryan. We

will be glad to address any question

you may have and welcome you into

our church fellowship.
