Parent Helpers required for Mother’s Day Stall

School Photos School Photos will be taking place on Friday 28th April. Order forms and instructions were sent home with students last term. Orders can be placed online through Arthur Reed Photos. Details and instructions are on the order forms.

Please make sure that your children have their appropriate full school uniform organised in time for School Photo Day.

A few parent helpers are still required on the day to help with the grooming of students before their photos are taken. If you are interested in helping out on Friday 28th April, please contact Lisa, Hayley or Clare in the Administration Office on 9368 9800.

Truganina College is looking at holding a Mother's Day Stall on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th May. All funds raised from the stall will go towards fundraising for our playground.

In order for this stall to take place, a number of parent helpers are required on both days to run the stall. Without the help of parents or members of the community, the stall won't be able to take place.

If you are interested in helping out on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th May, please contact Lisa, Hayley or Clare in the Administration Office on 9368 9800.

Winter is fast approaching and tissues are being used more frequently in the classroom. Truganina College will be holding a ‘Tissue Drive’ for the rest of Term 2 and kindly asks any families to donate tissue boxes to the school to be used by students in the classrooms.

We thank you all in advance for your donations and assistance.

21st Century Learning The 21st Century Learning Team has been working hard to organise the digital technology tools to support student learning at Truganina College.

We have purchased 60 netbooks which students are able to use for a range of learning experiences such as:

Coding with the Lego Robots within Technology classes

Completing online assessments Researching information Developing digital texts Manipulating photos and videos Preparing presentations Working with various computer programs

Some classrooms have now had large flat screen TVs and Apple devices installed so students can: View educational videos and modelled instructions as part of their lessons Share their learning from their iPads by ‘air-playing’ the information on the screen View demonstrations of how to use iPad apps on the large screen Showcase photographs of their learning on the large screen Read digital texts as part of the reading block Learn how to use various computer programs by watching it demonstrated on the

screen We are currently installing desk top computers in the Secondary area to give students access to various computer programs within their Information and Communication Technology classes. As you can see, we are providing the digital tools that support student learning in the 21st Century and a vital part of that is your child bringing their iPad to school every day! Teachers find it extremely difficult to teach a technology based lesson if only half the class has brought their iPads to school. There are some days when the iPads will not be accessed, but they need to be brought so they are ready to use when the opportunity arises. Thank you to the students who have been bringing their iPads, ready for learning. We will continue to work tirelessly to improve 21st Century Learning at Truganina College and thank you for your support in our endeavour! Reading in Year 1

Following on from their work on predictions in Term 1, the students in Year 1 this term have been learning how to make inferences about characters’ feelings.

Students have been exploring a range of different texts and have been making inferences about how a character might be feeling. So far this year, we have done a lot of work on the importance of using evidence to justify our thinking. The topic of inferences draws upon the use of evidence as students need to justify their inferences using the pictures and dialogue from the text.

Carla Evans, Danielle Larkin, Demi Lai and Laura Mitchell

Teaching and Learning Team 1.1

Learning Intention: We are learning to make inferences about characters’ feelings.

Success Criteria - I will be successful when I can:

Understand characters’ feelings using pictures and their dialogue.

Year 3 and 4 Music The beginning of Term 2 has seen the Year 3s and 4s take off to an excellent and exciting start in Music.

During the final few weeks of Term 1, we began learning how to play the Ukulele. The Year 3 and 4

students were eager to continue this learning when they returned in Term 2. Students have successfully

learnt 3 of the 4 chords used on the Ukulele (Am, C, F). They can successfully swap between these

chords. Next week, students will learn how to play the 4th chord (G), which will enable them to play a full

song on the Ukulele.
