OBJECTIVES:

Mix Angiomax vial with sterile water Inject Angiomax into 50 ml bag of D5W Prime IV tubing Start Administration of Angiomax

Angiomax vial, 10ml vial of Sterile Water, and 50 ml bag of D5W from the Pyxis.

10ml syringe and blunt needle IV Tubing Set IV Pump

STEP 1 Gather Supplies

Step 2 Attach blunt tip needle to 10ml syringe Open sterile water vial and insert needle with

attached syringe into vial Draw up 5ml’s of sterile water into syringe Take lid off of Angiomax vial and insert needle with

syringe with 5ml’s of sterile water into Angiomax vial and slowly swirl until all contents are dissolved

Using the same needle and syringe draw up contents from the Angiomax vial that was just mixed

STEP 3 Grab the 50ml bag of D5W Take off the cap to the D5W bag and insert needle with

syringe that has the mixed Angiomax solution and inject into the D5W bag.

Gently agitate D5W bag to ensure mixture of solution Retrieve IV Tubing and ensure roller clamp is closed Take off foil cover on D5W bag and insert IV tubing

spike into 50ml bag of D5W now mixed with Angiomax and hang on IV pump.

Fill upper chamber of IV tubing halfway before priming tubing & ensure that roller clamp is still closed

STEP 4 Invert the IV tubing prior to the roller clamp while priming to

help aid in minimizing air bubbles. Open the roller clamp and allow the Angiomax to prime the

IV tubing. Once the Angiomax has passed the filter part of the tubing it

does not need to be inverted and the rest of the tubing can be primed until Angiomax reaches the end of the tubing.

Hook the tubing up to the patient’s IV access

START THE ANGIOMAX ON THE PUMP

All Pumps are different however when putting on the pump follow the guardrail instructions and double check to make sure it is the same concentration that you have just mixed

Enter the patient’s weight in kilograms and the pump should prompt you to the correct next steps for successful administration of Angiomax to your patient during a PCI during an Angiogram.
