Mr. Know-it-all thinks he has found contradictions in Qur’an. Who brings the revelation fromAllah to Muhammad? The ANGEL Gabriel [2:97], or the Holy Spirit [16:102]? The newrevelation confirms the old [2:97] or substitutes it [16:101]? The Qur'an is PURE Arabic[16:103] but there are numerous foreign, non-Arabic words in it.

Let me first show our Mr. Know-it-all the Verbatim of what he has quoted.

QUR'AN CHAPTER 2: AL-BAQARA 097-098 “Say: Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel 101for he brings down the revelation) to thy heart by Allah's will, a confirmation of what went before, and guidance and glad tidings for those who believe, Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and messengers, to Gabriel and Michael, Lo! Allah is an enemy to those who reject Faith.”

QUR'AN CHAPTER 16: AN-NAHL, 102 YUSUFALI: Say, the Holy Spirit 2141 has brought the

revelation from thy Lord in Truth, in order to strengthen those who believe 2142 , and as a Guide and Glad Tidings to Muslims.

QUR'AN CHAPTER 016.101 YUSUFALI: When We substitute one revelation 2140  for another, and Allah knows best what He reveals (in stages), they say, "Thou art but a forger": but most of them understand not.

QUR'AN CHAPTER 016.103 YUSUFALI: We know indeed that they say, "It is a man that teaches him." The tongue of him they wickedly point to is notably foreign , and this is clear 2143 Arabic tongue.

[Please see the Commentary of the English translator Shk. Yousuf Ali and Syed AlaMawdudi at the end of this paper.]

The first question of “who brings the message to Mohammed s.a.w” The answer is very clear and simple, the message is brought by the Arch Angel Jibraeel [Gabriel] whose title is also“Ruh Al Quddus ” the mighty spirit.

The actual word used in this verse was the Arabic word "Muhaimin" which has Englishequivalent as "Guardian / warden / overseer / watcher / protector." The job of a warden is towatch the actions of those he has been charged to observe, permitting legal words anddeeds and correcting illegal ones. This is indeed the job of the Qur'an, namely, to shift out

the human tampering in the Bible and only leave the original teachings of God.

The closest English equivalent to this Arabic word in my estimation is "warden" or the similar one chosen by Gary Miller, namely "quality control." For this reason, Muhammad (s.a.w)commanded the Muslims to accept only that which is verified by the Qur'an recognizing it asauthentic and to reject that which contradicts the Qur'an recognizing it as a later outgrowth of Church tampering.

Further, the original Arabic does not say "pure Arabic" rather; it says "clear Arabic." Theactual words are: "wa hatha lisanun arabiyyun mubeen" or "and this is a clear Arabictongue." This verse was revealed regarding a man by the name of Jabr al-Roomi. When he

passed through the land the polytheists quickly jumped at the opportunity to claim that hewas the one who was teaching Muhammad the Qur'an and this is why they could notreplicate it, since this man was a foreigner with a different background and culture. God

replied in these verses that if this claim were true then the Qur'an would not have beenrevealed in "clear Arabic" since that man had a very heavy foreign accent and could in noway produce such a work.

Finally, as for the claim of our Mr. Know-it-all that Arabic contains non-Arabic words in it,then that depends entirely on the criteria used to judge what is or isn't "Arabic." In English wefind such words as "Algebra" which is corruption of the Arabic word "Al-Jabr," (Arabic: "there-unification") a Muslim science which the West adopted by way of Italy. However, this doesnot mean that "Algebra" is not an English word. It has been assimilated into the languageand is in this age considered to be an authentic part of it. Similarly, words such as "bordello"were transmitted from German (borde) to French (Bordel) to Italian (bordello) and finally toEnglish.

So does this mean that this word should not be included in an "English" dictionary or aFrench or German one? Through usage and acceptance foreign words are subjected tocultural assimilation till they slowly cease to be "foreign words" any more becoming anauthentic part of the host language. This is especially the case with regard to countries suchas the USA which are "melting pots" of numerous cultures, languages, and traditions. Thereare many other examples in the English language such as "Bouquet" from the French"Bosquet," itself adopted from the German "Bosc" forest. Once again, the examples number literally in the hundreds. This is also how a few words of non-Arabic origin were later assimilated over the centuries into the Arabic language until after a number of centuries theycame to be regarded as "Arabic."

Such examples are quite few and far between when compared to English since the Arabianpeninsula was so barren, harsh and desolate a land that there never was any real reason for anyone to migrate to it, and thus, this inhospitality of the climate and land contributed greatlytowards the preservation of the purity of the language called as Arabic.

After the common sense reasoning, as shown above, let us have a look at the commentaryof the translator Shk. Yousuf Ali, which shall clear the doubts from the mindsets of our Mr.Know-it-all Inshallah:

Foot-note 101: “A party of the Jews in the time of Prophet Mohammed s.a.w ridiculed theMuslim belief that Gabriel brought down the revelation to Prophet Mohammed s.a.w.

Michael was called in their books “the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people”: (Daniel. Xii.1). The vision of Gabriel inspired fear (Daniel. Viii.16.17). Butthis pretense – that Michael was there friend and Gabriel their enemies – was merely amanifestation of their un-belief in Angels, Apostles, God himself: and such unbelief could not win the love of God. In any case it was disingenuous to say that their belief inone angel and not in another. Prophet Mohammed s.a.w inspiration was through

visions of Gabriel. Prophet Mohammed s.a.w had been helped to the highest spirituallight, and the message he delivered and his spotless integrity and exemplary life weremanifest signs which everyone could understand except those who were obstinate andperverse. Besides, the verses of the Qur’an were in themselves reasonable and clear.”

Foot-note 2140: “See ii. 106 and n. 107, the doctrine of progressive revelation from age toage and time to time does not mean that God’s fundamental law changes. It is not fair to

charge a man of God with forgery because the message as revealed to him is in adifferent form from that revealed before, when the core of truth is same, for it comesfrom God..”

Foot-note 107: “The word which I have translated by the word ‘revelation’ is ayat. See C.41 and n. 15. It is not only used for verses of Qur’an, but in a general sense for God’srevelation, as it ii.30 and for other signs of God in history or nature, or miracles, as inii.61. It has been used for human signs and tokens of wonder, as for example, themonuments or landmarks built by ancient people of AD (xxvi. 128). What is themeaning? If we take in a general sense, it means that God’s message from age to age isalways the same, but that its form may differ according to the needs and exigencies of time. That from was different as given to Moses and then to Jesus and then toMohammad. Some commentators apply it also to the ayah of the Qur’an. There is

nothing derogatory in this if we believe in progressive revelation. In iii. 7 we are tolddistinctly about the Qur’an, that some of its verses as ii. 115 as if it were abrogated by ii.144 about the Qibla, we turn to the Qibla, but we do not believe God is only in one place. He is everywhere. See second note to ii.144.”

“There may be express abrogation, or there may be “causing or permitting to forget”.How many good or wise institutions gradually become obsolete by afflux of time? Thenthere is a gradual process of disuse or forgetting in evolution. This does not mean thateternal principles change. It is only a sign of God’s infinite Power that His creationshould take so many forms and shapes not only in the material world but in the world of

man’s thoughts and expressions”Foot-note 2141: “The title of Angel Gabriel. Through whom the revelations came down.”

Foot-note 2142: “The people of the book, if they had true faith, were themselvesstrengthened in their faith and cleared of their doubts and difficulties by the revelation

brought by Prophet Mohammed s.a.w: and all – weather people of the book or not – who came within the fold of Islam, found the Qur’an a guide and a gospel, i.e. asubstitute for the Mosaic Law and for the Christian Gospel, which had both beencorrupted.

Foot-note 2143: “The wicked attribute to men of God just such motives and springs of action as they themselves would be guilty of in such circumstances. The Pagans andthose who were hostile to the revelation of God in Islam could not and cannotunderstand how such wonderful words could flow from the tounge of the Holy ProphetMohammed s.a.w . They must needs postulate some human teachers. Unfortunately fortheir postulates, any possible human teacher they could think of would be poor in Arabicspeech if he had all the knowledge that the Qur’an reveals of previous revelations. Apartfrom that, even the most eloquent Arab could not, and cannot, produce anything of theeloquence, width, and depth of Qur’anic teaching, as is evident every verse of the book.

Per iod o f Rev e la t i on : The following internal evidence shows that this Surah wasrevealed during the last Makkan stage of Prophethood:

 V. 41 clearly shows that persecution had forced some Muslims to emigrate to Habash before the revelation of this Surah. It is evident from v. 106 that at that time thepersecution of the Muslims were at its height. Therefore a problem had arisen in regardto the utterance of a blasphemous word, without actual disbelief, under unbearableconditions. The problem was that if one did so how he should be treated. VV. 112-114clearly refers to the end of seven year famine that had struck Makkah some years afterthe appointment of the Holy Prophet as Allah’s Messenger.

There is a reference to V 116 of this Surah in VI: 145, and v. 118 of this Surah contains areference to VI: 146. This is a proof that both these Surahs (VI and XVI) were sent down

in the same period. The general style of the Surah also supports the view that this wasrevealed during the last stage at Makkah.

Ce n t r a l T h e m e

All the topics of the Surah revolve round different aspects of the Message, ie., refutationof shirk, proof of Tauhid, and w arning of the consequences of the rejection of andopposition and antagonism to the Message.

Top ics o f Discus s ion

The very first verse gives direct and strict warning to those who were rejecting theMessage outright, as if to say, "Allah's decision has already been made concerning yourrejection of the Message. Why are you then clamoring for hastening it? Why don't youmake use of the respite that is being given to you!" And this was exactly what thedisbelievers of Makkah needed at the time of the revelation of this Surah. For they challenged the Holy Prophet over and over again: "Why don't you bring that scourge

with which you have been threatening us! For we have not only rejected your Message but have been openly opposing it for a long time." Such a challenge had become a by- word with them, which they frequently repeated as a clear proof that Muhammad(Allah's peace be upon him) was not a true Prophet.

Immediately a fter these warnings they have been admonished to give up shirk, for thisfalse creed wa s the main obstacle in the way of the Message. Then the following topicscome over and over again, one after the other: Very convincing proofs of Tauhid andrefutation of shirk have been based on the plain signs in the universe and in man's ownself. The objections of the disbelievers have been answered, their arguments refuted, their doubts removed and their false pretexts exposed.

Warnings have given of the consequences of persistence in false ways and antagonismto the Message. The moral changes which the Message of the Holy Prophet aims to bringpractically in human life have been presented briefly in an appealing manner.

The mushriks have been told that belief in Allah, which they also professed, demandedthat it should not be confined merely to lip service, but this creed should take a definite

shape in moral and practical life. The Holy Prophet and his companions have beencomforted and told about the attitude they should adopt in the face of antagonism andpersecution by the disbelievers.”

Is there anybody out there, after reading the above explanations, from the common sensereasoning, and the background of the Surah, still insists on whatever the disease his / her heart has been developing against Qur’an?

There are no errors or contradictions in the Qur’an, but in the mindsets of the Paulineattackers. If you have a look carefully at the discussion I have put-up so far, not a singlespeck of contradiction were the Pauline flocks able to show me, I am just another normalMuslim on the roads folks, I am not a academic Islamic Scholar, I just want common senseand good reasoning, commodity that is seldom found in the blinded Christian flocks.

O my Learned Christian readers and Mr. Know-it-all, do you really want shirk of Saul of Tarsus in your lives? Would you take man-made lies instead of truth in your lives? Do youhave any sense of reason? Do they have any thinking-heads? Does God stop you fromthinking reasonably? Or would you like to regret in the hereafter.

They will say, "If only we had really listened and used our intellect, we would not have been Companions of the Blaze." (Noble Qur’an, Surat al-Mulk: 10) or would the followers of St.Paul like to regret…!

O Mr. Know-it-all …! ”Respond to your Lord before a Day comes from Allah [ ىلآعت   هنآحبس  ],which cannot be turned back. On that Day you will have no hiding-place and no means of

denial.” (Noble Qur’an, Surat ash-Shura: 47)

I invite you, O my Christian readers, to use your intellect and be a true believer, a truthfulsubmitter to your God Allah May Allah .[ سبحآنه   تعآلى] [ سبحآنه   تعآلى] bestow upon you his mercyand help you understand the fallacies of the Christian Pauline religion of “Saul of Tarus ”...Ameen, ya Rabbi’ziljalaal.

Allah [ سبحآنه   تعآلى] makes it very evident for you "W e shall show them Our signs on the horizons and within themselves until it will become clear to them that it is the Truth. Does it not suffice that your Lord is Witness over all things?" The noble Qur'an, Fussilat (41):53.

"Verily! this Qur'an guides to that which is most upright, and gives glad tidings to the believers who work deeds of righteousness that theirs will be a great reward" The noble Qur'an, Al-Isra (17):9 Sadakh’allah al’azeem.
