Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: ♦ to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... ♦ to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... ♦ to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… ♦ to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ, On the last Wednesday we received ashes to inaugurate Lent, the time of conver-sion, and repentance. Very often we look at repentance in a retrospective light. Meanwhile, repentance directs us into the future and a new life. Even though, we can’t change the past, we can learn a lot from the past. Lent belongs to the Easter season, this is a time of preparation, to celebrate Paschal Mysteries, to go from slavery of sin to life in freedom, from dark-ness into light, from the cross to the glory.

We are not alone, Jesus is our companion, our inspiration, and our strength. We go with Him on our Lenten journey into the desert, to win with Jesus at the time of temptation. Jesus went to the desert to be tempted right after He received baptism from John in the Jordan River. Jesus didn’t need to be bap-tized by John, nor did He need to be tested in a desert by Sa-tan; He did it for us. He came to the river to sanctify the wa-ters. He went to the desert to be with us at the time of tempta-tion. On this first week of Lent, right now, we start our Lenten Mission. We are doing the missions this year with our neighborhood parishes – St. Beatrice, St. Maria Goretti, and Divine Savior, as we did a year ago, and it seemed to be a successful venture. Katie Price will be the presenter on Monday, Tim Weiske will be the presenter on Tuesday, and there will be a movie with social discussions on Wednesday. On Monday, we will gather at St. Beatrice Parish in Schiller Park; on Tuesday, we will gather at our parish – Our Lady, Mother of the Church; on Wednesday, we will gather at Divine Sav-ior. St. Maria Goretti parish will take care of the music at our location on Tuesday evening. All three days we gather for a reception at 6 p.m., and the presentation will start at 7 p.m. On the first two days, Monday, and Tuesday, there will be light refreshment rather than a big meal; on Wednesday is planned a catered meal. Every day, every hour, every second of Lent calls us to pray, to fast, and to do the works of charity. Please, bring as many people as you can for our inspirational performance in two weeks – Saint Cath-erine of Siena, they all will be thankful to you for a long time. Tickets are on sale, in the narthex, and at the rectory. Performance – Sunday, March 24 @ 2:30 p.m.

May God bless you!

Friendship Club The Friendship Club will have their meeting this Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Please wear your green for our St. Pat-rick's Day Party. After a short meeting, we will be having a corn beef sandwich and a salad for lunch along with a delicious dessert. After lunch, we will be entertained by Joe McShane, an Irish entertainer, who will be singing and playing a guitar. After our entertainment, bin-go will be played. Hope to see you there.

More Myths About Domestic Violence Many People believe that drugs and alcohol cause domestic violence. While drugs or alcohol are frequently a component of battering episodes, the substance abuse is an entirely sepa-rate problem. Elimination of substance abuse does not neces-sarily eliminate battering. Some people believe that victims purposely provoke violence when in fact, that is rarely the case.

Baby Bottle Project

Our Parish is participating in the Baby Bottle Project. Baby bottles are available after all the masses this weekend. The donations raised from this project go directly to The Women’s Center of Chicago. This organization has helped save almost 40,000 babies in 34 years. Please put your spare change in the baby bottle during the next few weeks. The money we collect will help mothers who are facing a crisis pregnancy and who have little or no support. When you bring the baby bottle back to church, you can give the bottle to the ushers, or put the baby bottle in a basket in the back of the church. Please give whatever you can to help us help those women and young girls to choose life for their babies and please pray for an end to abortion in our country. Baby bottles are due back by Sun. March 31st. Thank you!

At our February Meeting celebrating Valentine’s Day

Food Pantry It will be open this Wednesday, March 13, from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. in Hayes Center. Go to the west side of the building, and enter by the door nearest to the outdoor statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Then there is a second door, and just past that door, the food pantry is on the right.

Lenten Food Drive For the second week of Lent, please donate non-perishable, unexpired fruits and vegetables. These include canned vege-tables, canned diced tomatoes, tomato paste or sauce, spa-ghetti sauce, canned olives, canned fruits, shelf-stable fruit

cups, applesauce, and dried fruit such as prunes and raisins. Bring your donation to the baskets in the narthex and vestibule. The fruits and vegetables will go to the food pantry at Catholic Charities, 1717 Rand Road, Des Plaines. Thank you for your Lenten fasting and almsgiving to feed people in need.

Lenten Bible Study We will look at Saint Paul’s Letter to the Co-lossians next Wednesday, March 20, in Hayes Center, from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. It is only four chapters. On the United States Council of Catholic Bishops web-site, the reading of Scrip-ture is considered part of Lenten prayer. Please take this opportunity during Lent to read Co-lossians, and study it with us.
