Journal of Dentistry for Children announces formation of IADC
September 19701st issue of The Journal of the IADC is published. Ted Levitas joins to form an editorial board.
23 February 1968 Meeting at the headquarters of the British Dental Association in London, with representatives from France, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, USA and the UK.
Unanimous agreement to estab-lish an international organization for children’s dentistry.
Steering committee: Arvid Syrrist (Chairman), David Berman (Secretary) and Sergio Fiorentini (member).
Agreement to have the next meet-ing of the International Forum of Dentistry for Children in Sienna in June 1969.
1st International Symposium on Child Dental Health by the British Paedodontic Society at the London Hospital Medical College. The objective is to discuss common problems in paediatric dentistry. The 200 participants came from Austria, Belgium, Canada, UK & USA, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia.

IADC HAS NOW 22 NATIONAL MEMBER SOCIETIES
A possible renaming of the Association: the executive committee considered the possibility of changing the title to The International Association of Pediatric Stomatology but it was agreed to retain the title IADC.
Council established a subcommittee to consider an emblem for the Association.

Scientific presentations at the joint meeting were translated into French, English and Japanese.
A NEW ASSOCIATION EMBLEMFollowing advertisement in the Journal of the IADC, the subcommittee on emblems had considered 22 entries and had select-ed one submitted by Vera N. Warren (UK), a recommendation accepted by Council.

ALOP began its formation at the 1st Congress of Pediatric Dentistry of the Pacific in Lima, Peru.
The IADC legal base was FDI’s address in London.

The American Society of Dentistry for Children celebrated its 50th anniversary and hosted the sixth congress of the International Association of Dentistry for Children.
International delegates to the IADC congress included dentists from all parts of the world, including several from communist countries.
1st MAJOR POLITICAL STATEMENT
IADC made its first major political statement: “The IADC strongly advocates the use of fluorides for caries preven-tion on a worldwide basis. All members of the Association are encouraged to initiate or assist the planning of such programmes adjusted optimally to the various conditions in their home countries. The IADC powerfully supports the resolutions unanimously passed by the World Health Organization.”

ASSOCIATION ARTICLES ARE ESTABLISHED
Three groups of members were defined:
Effective: national paedodontic societies or specialized sections of national dental associations
Supporting: legal dental practitioners interested in dentistry for children (no right to vote);
Honorary: limited number of distinguished people who have made extraordinary contributions to realize the objectives of the Association.
Council agreed that the IADC would meet on alternate years in a member nation’s country.
IADC MISSIONIn addition to promoting international friendship between children’s dentists it would provide a forum for the exchange of information and knowledge internationally on matters relating to child dental health.

• Elisha (Eli) Ben-Zur introduced a report on congress sites.
• He stressed the need for IADC meetings to be held in conjunction with a national congress and to ensure there were no separate meetings for the local members to attend.
• It was agreed on a levy representing 10% of the registration fees.

A Task Force of Prof. Thomas Modeer, Harpinder Chawla, Eli Benzur, Prof. Sadahiro Yoshida and Claudia Souza was set up at the 1987 Toronto, Canada, meeting to consider the future role of the Association.

The Approach to Better Dental Care for Children Toward the 21st Century1300 participants travelled to Japan from 34 countries.
A very successful meeting that helped the Association to financially survive. Chair of the Congress was Prof. Sadahiro Yoshida.

EAPD was inaugurated in May 28th 1990 during the AAPD congress in Boston from over 19 dentists. The 1st Council meet-ing took place in Paris, 1991 and the 1st Congress in 1992 in Noordwijkerhout, Netherlands.
PDAAThe Pediatric Dentistry Associa-tion of Asia is formed during the 1996 JSPD meeting by members from Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Philippines.The 1st President of PDAA was Professor Shizuo Sobue (Japan) while Prof. Mitsutaka Kimura (Japan) was the 1st Secretary General.

Bright Smiles/Bright Futures Award, gener-ously sponsored by the Colgate-Palmolive Company to be presented at the next annual meeting in Argentina.

The IAPD President’s Medal
The medal was awarded to two outstanding members of the profession, Dr. Manuel M. Album and Professor Gerald B. Winter.
The beginning of the conference was over-shadowed by the tragedy in New York. Consequently at the Opening Ceremony a minute of silence was held in memory of those who lost their lives and in sympathy for our American colleagues.Prof. Winter and Dr. Album received their
medals from Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal at a special ceremony during the IAPD Conference in London.
