The use of a true flat-panel screen
ensures images being displayed
are always perfect and distortion-
free. Instant set-up with
convergence-free operation
assures the image quality will
always be the same every time the
plasma is switched on.
Accurate Display Characteristics
Inert gas is trapped between two
glass panels, separated by a gap
of just 100-200 microns wide. UV
light is generated by discharging
the gas using electrodes. Red,
green and blue phosphors absorb
these UV discharges and re-
radiate the energy as visible light
to produce the colours that appear on the screen.

The Pioneer Professional Plasma Display combines a large screen within alightweight ultra slim chassis, evolving existing PDP technology to meet the newvisual presentation demands of the 21st century. The large screen PDP (Plasma Display Panel) boasts ultra-slim dimensions, is surprisingly light in weight and delivers stunning picture quality: - a
combination of features that opens up a host of new and exciting opportunities for visual presentation, especially with the current growth in digital
and multimedia technologies. As the advantages of PDP’s over traditional CRT and projection-type displays become increasingly apparent, so plasma
is consolidating itself as a core element in all types of presentation and public display systems. Pioneer has developed and mass-produced PDP's
from the earliest inception of this state-of-the art technology. Our next generation, encompassing enhanced picture quality and durability, maintain
Pioneers position as the industry leaders.
As plasma screens are not
affected by magnetic fields, the
PDP-502MXE can be sited close
to loudspeakers without the fear
of screen distortion, generally
caused by magnetic interference.
Another important characteristic
of plasma, is its effective visual
field angle, which is in excess of
160 degrees (both horizontally
and vertically). This enables
spectators, for the first time, to
enjoy sharp, on-screen images
from virtually any viewing point,
rather than simply front-on.
Unlike traditional monitors or
projection displays, plasma boasts
extraordinarily slim dimensions
relative to its generous screen size.
Which means, screens can be
installed almost anywhere.

Versatile / Flexible / Slim DesignThe PDP-502MXE offers integrators and designers installation options to suit virtually any application. This model now produces less heat and has
an advanced environmental tolerance device, which simultaneously reduces operating noise. The unit, although measuring 50" diagonally, is surprisingly
lightweight and is one of the slimmest. With its 160 degree viewing angle, both vertically and horizontally, this plasma panel can be viewed from almost
anywhere, and can be integrated into new and existing applications with ease.
High Brightness / High ContrastThe PDP-502MXE reproduces remarkably bright and high-contrast pictures, whilst maintaining the highest level of image resolution. This is due to a
newly developed display panel that pushes the limits of illumination efficiency, and the implementation of revolutionary new drive technology.
High Picture Quality / Superb ClarityDue to quantum advancements with the principal signal processing technology and the adoption of several innovations, the PDP-502MXE is capable
of reproducing exceptionally clear high-resolution pictures from a variety of signal sources.
A True Native XGA Display, Compatible with SXGA and UXGAThe PDP-502MXE is equipped with a 980,000-pixel (1,280 x 768 dot) 50" high-resolution plasma panel. This full-specification display accepts standard
PC signals ranging from VGA (640 x 480 dot) to UXGA (1,600 x 1,200 dot) and everything in between. In addition, the full 1,280 x 768-dot display
can be used in a 16:9 native mode, with Pioneer's exclusive PC card (PDK-GCP2)
A Full Line-Up of Exclusive Professional Features and FunctionsThe PDP-502MXE is equipped with a range of control features and functions that the professional user will find invaluable. These, include both user
and integrator adjustment modes; precise white balance adjustment; external RS-232 control interface (with loop through for multiple units); desecrate
input and function control; white balance switching function; tools for managing image shadowing; a wealth of input terminals*; audio amplifier (2W
x 2W); key-lock function; operating status monitor; four mode display orientation (Up/Down and Left/Right Reverse mode); power management
function, and an OSD (On-Screen Display) On/Off function.*PDA-5001 is required for video input / output terminals
Continuous Emission DisplayTechnology Brings AboutImproved Contrast in DarkAreas and Eliminates FalseContoursMost plasma displays require a continuous fixed
discharge level, known as the Reset Level, in order
to display an image. However, if this level is too
high it can produce negative display qualities.
Continuous Emission Display Technology has
succeeded in almost eliminating the need for a
Reset Level. This allows the PDP-502MXE to achieve
more intense black contrast in dark locations, along
with improved low greyscale gradation. With this
breakthrough Pioneer has eliminated one of the
greatest problems associated with conventional
plasma displays - that of false contours.
Pioneer's Digitally EnhancedSignal Technology DeliversClear High-ResolutionPictures from both PC andVideoTo ensure the sharpest possible PC image
reproduction, the PDP-502MXE is equipped
with Pioneer's exclusive Digitally Enhanced
signal processing circuitry. This development
has resulted in 1-dot unit image management
and enhancement, in both the horizontal
and vertical axes. The display is thus capable
of displaying fine text and graphic images
from PC sources with much more clarity than
pre-existing plasma displays, making the
PDP-502MXE the optimum plasma for use
with a personal computer.
Newly Developed Panel Breaks Through The P
Digital High Density Image Scaling TechnologyAchieves 8 Times Normal Signal Density For TheUltimate Picture QualityDigital High Density Scaling Technology - uses progressive conversion to boost
the PAL / NTSC picture quality by firstly doubling the interlaced signal to VGA level.
Then using interpolation and estimation, it increases the information content in both the horizontal and vertical directions. This results in an 8-fold
increase in the original signal and superior picture quality.

True Matrix Imaging Technology MakesOn-Screen Images Brighter Than EverBeforePioneer's newly developed Encased Cell Structure ensures superior
illumination efficiency by increasing phosphor surface area and
eliminating light leakage from neighbouring cells, both above and
below, thereby improving clarity in the vertical axis. This increases
the amount of light produced, resulting in brighter on-screen images.
Black Stripes Greatly Improve ContrastEspecially in Bright LocationsBlack stripes on the panel's non-luminous front section reduces the
amount of external light reflected off the screen surface, effectively
doubling the on-screen image contrast when the display is used
in bright locations. This innovation allows viewers to enjoy sharp
pictures, without reduction in black contrast even when bright
ambient light conditions exist.
Improved Blue Phosphor Enhances WhiteReproductionThe PDP-502MXE plasma display achieves brilliant white reproduction
and sharper contrast, by utilising an improved blue phosphor that
provides superior illumination efficiency balance. Colour temperature
can also be adjusted by the colour balance controls* in the on-
screen menu.
*These values have individually adjusted high and low levels. Once adjusted, colour
balance settings can be set into one of two colour memories for each type of input. All
of these adjustments can be done via a wireless remote or RS-232C control.
